What QB are you hoping for?

Not really

If we had drafted a receiver who may or may not pan out everyone would have been happy

In essence we got a receiver we know is good

 

Besides height, because he is short for the NFL, why is there little to no conversation about Dillon Gabriel?


I know he played at UCF, then Oklahoma, and finally at Oregon. That's the extent of what I know about him. Yet he's listed in everyone's top10 QBs in this draft.

 

Oh for sure. It just goes to show you how important every decision is.

 

He just doesn't check many boxes for what NFL teams want. He's accurate, a solid leader, and operates fairly well in the pocket.... but he has just ok average arm strength, he's short, small, sub-par athlete, and struggles to get the ball over the middle. He might end up being a solid back up, but I am not sure that there is much of a projection that he can be a starter at all.

 

One outside the first round. Other than that I don’t care a ton.

Picking QBs outside the top 15 is like throwing darts blindfolded. Sometimes you get lucky, but it’s better to take that chance with a lower pick.

 

i did see him play...and in the first game of the year against NDSU he should have been called for 2 targeting calls, one being in the final minutes...any other player would have been booted and sat..he is careless in his play, and will get exposed in the NFL

 

The guy has two college starts and he was good in one of them. That was against a terrible Mississippi State team. I know the guy has talent, but I think some folks are getting too fired up due to his last name.

 

I also wouldn't want the rookie version of Terry Bradshaw. Or year two, three, or four for that matter.

Agree. If he was that great and was the second coming of Payton Manning, Texas would have had Qwen Ewers jump in the transfer portal, so he could have started his 2nd year there. Not waited and had him sitting on the bench for 2 years.

I still say Arch is not coming out until 2027.

 

He had one of the worst combine performances of all time. He was inaccurate and showed a weak arm that was no where near NFL caliber.

 

Fair point. Still, there are greedy types like me that still want to play Hungry Hippos with the draft pool.

 

that year you and i both were high on howell. he does a lot of things good that i saw when he played.

tom arth i believe is the key in all this. everyone complains about the coaching and deservedly so but arth has never had the same QB for more than a year to see what he could mold them into. could he do it with mason, howell and a rookie? the right rookie. we don't know. he hasn't been given that chance yet. it's easy to lump everyone under MT and pickett and fields and wilson but that just isn't the truth of the matter until we give the new coach his time.

i'd like to see them bring these guys in that can be coached and let him coach them. i think mason, howell, and a shough, mccord or howard would be guys capable of taking that coaching. it may go nowhere but we have to give him the shot. the next guy might be right under our nose.

 

I agree a lot.
I hated to see him drafted by Washington which at the time were QB killers almost as adept at it as are the New York Jets.
He looked great that first year all through camp in into the season during practices. You could see he was rough around the edges.
Then that last game against Dallas, he got on the field and played pretty well.
That offense in 2023 with the KC OC was very disappointing. Andy Reid is the genius behind that KC offense.
He looked decent in Seattle camp and during the season practices. But as Seattle coaches readily admit, he had to be retrained.
His only outing wasn't great, but that was a tough situation.

No, I can't tout him as a 'fix' or a 'solution' but a combo of Mason and Howell (as backup) would not be bad as I might find a decent option.
Howell can move and he does have an arm. But he was very rough....
As mentioned, I would only do a conditional trade.. he has to make the roster, he has to play some at a certain level.

I don't think our Font Office is very strong and aren't able to pull off such a deal.
I also don't think our coaching is QB friendly. Both have yet to prove otherwise to me.
