The whole TB thing is extremely weird, why not make Jerry Jones a network analyst? I know there are 'rules' in place, but let's stretch them for wonder boy because to brings in more bucks. When CA passed the law for NIL (other states following) the NCAA did nothing to help in policing it, now we have a mess. The marriage between gambling, NFL, streaming services, and the things you mentioned gets very colluded and the interested parties are going to be meshed at some point. $$$$ seems to be the prime motivator, the bigger it gets you are going to see more of this,

I'm not against Howard, but I think you have to take everything into the perspective, A lot of QB;s have lead teams to NATY's and have done nothing in the pros. He had pro level talent all around him, and that does not mean he will be less in the pro's, but it should temper the expectations. The same can be said for a lot of these guys coming out, right now the expectation is so high and quick for production that they get lost in the development phase, they need time to learn. develop, and for a team to build around them,

one thing about howard having pro talent around him will have no less pro talent around him in the pros. many of these QB's have pro talent around them. refining that talent and building on it is not for all of them. who can arth work with and get to the point we need? i still think mason can benefit from him too. i have said it before that if i'm the GM of a QB needy team i'd take two from this class. yes i know we need other positions and we can still get good players at those positions either drafting or still in free agency. there is nothing left in the QB pool really in free agency but there is for other positions.

if it was me and they want howard in the 3rd and mccord is sitting there in the 4th, i'd do it. give's you 4 to work with and won't cost you much to do it. you can still get a DT or a CB or lineman in free agency. draft to fill the big hole and fill in around it.

That's a wild thought, but actually not outrageous. Wash did it with a 1 and 4, Arz did 1 and 1 back to back years. I doubt it gets done, but interesting thoughts.

I am warming up more and more to Dart at #21. I think he has a legit chance to be a solid pro. His game vs Florida was an enigma. Really good play most of the game but some terrible misreads at the end. I think they’re fixable. What he brings is very natural accuracy and touch. The second level throws in this Warner analysis are rare among college prospects.

I never of that, how is it even legal. I can definitely see Brady liking Sanders as he would have to develop the same skills that Brady had when he was in the NFL> He isn’t a great athlete nor was Brady. He is a good processor and can read the field well and go through his progressions. Sounds alot like Brady’s strengths. Honestly I would be thrilled if they drafted Sanders because that would hopefully mean the Steelers draft a DT. I find it hard to believe they would pass on Jeanty though.

It's hard to believe how quickly the RB position has returned to some prominence. Jeanty seems the real deal, you put him in an O with Brock, not sure of their WR, but that gives a reliable Geno something to work with in that division. He is probably the weakest QB in the west, but if the weapons are there that team can be competitive.

I agree. It would actually be a great place to trade Pickens (not saying I want to) but he would fit in nicely there. The Raiders have alot of holes but it is still hard to pass up on Jeanty. With that being said Pete Carroll always drafts much different from everyone else, so taking Sanders early if he likes him would not surprise me.

That's really the gist of this draft, all the stories of guys dropping, who really knows how a team feels about Saunders, Dart, and other positional players. I do not necessarily see it, some but owners/GM can get really stupid when the draft rolls around.

I am just concerned were getting into this circular loop of drafting a QB every other year and as a result missing on legit talent in other areas as a result. To me if the QB your drafting offers very little upside to what you already have on the roster with Rudolph then why draft the guy. I feel like Dart, Shough and McCord are just those guys. We can look back at this draft five years from now and see a Kenneth Grant on Baltimore as a top tier DT run plugger or Jhadae Barron tearing it up Chiefs or something and meanwhile that QB reached on is a backup on somebody else’s team.

The hit rate on QB’s is so low why not build the team up with a better chance on more sure draft picks and positions and then go for that franchise guy that your way more sure of over the next few years.

I get it, have responded to Mac in a few threads. I agree with him in that you pick until you find, and I get what you are saying where does it end, lol. You can't ignore the position because of failure, yes rd 2 and lower QB picks are rare to have a high ceiling, but despite last years crop, you probably have a 50% plus bust rate for QB's in the 1st round. We do not need 10 or 12 picks, but it would be nice to get back that 2nd or a 3rd to fill the depth quality guys. Using one of those picks in the 3rd or 4th on a QB may seem like a throw away, but you have to keep plugging away.

The margin for error with pro level talent in the NFL is far smaller than the margin for error in college with pro level talent.

I don’t know, it sounds like taking a QB just for the sake of taking a QB because we need one. That really doesn’t work for any popstion when we are desperate. It causes us to over reach. See Artie Burns or Kenny Pickett as an example.

The ideal way to draft a Qb is when you see talent their and the guy drops to you and you don’t need one but you draft him for the future. Nick Sabin said the biggest issue in todays NFL with rookie Qb’s is often the amount of overwhelming pressure they are put under alot of times because the franchise views them as a savior and starts them way to soon before they are full developed to play at the pro level. He said alot of good talent gets ruined that way. I feel like Tomlins style ruins Qb’s as well. Ben obviously transcended above Tomlin because he was a veteran when Tomlin came along. But the conservative play calling, lack of throwing over the middle and harboring about avoiding turnovers, I think it gets in a QB’s head and shows you have a lack of confidence in them so as a result they play nervous. Very few Qb’s do well in that environment. You have to have a guy like TOm Brady who can handle that kind of coaching. I honestly believe Belicheck is very similar to Tomlin in that respect. He lucked out having a QB that could take to that kind of coaching and flourish. With all of that being said I do think Sheduer Sanders may be the one guy with the right mental makeup to be handle Tomlins style of coaching.

I’m not saying Tomlin is an in your face chewing you out type of coach with the QB as it is apparent he is not, it is more the subtle message he sends with the constant preaching about turnovers and the conservative play calling .... that can be just as loud as someone screaming in your ear.

You can’t just throw away draft picks like that. It can set your team back if you don’t utilize the picks effectively. Me personally. I would stop worrying about drafting the perfect QB and focus more on how can we design our scheme, and offense and coaching style to make it more QB friendly. How does Minnesota do it? How does Houston do it? How does the LA Rams do it or the 49 er’s? Once you get that established then your better prepared to utilize and develop the talent you do draft. Until then us brining in old free agent QB’s under this regime is probably our best bet for success.

Just keep in mind the year we drafted Pickett in the 1st we could have had Trent McDuffie or Tyler Linderbaum in the 1st round.

I think it is more of a "rebranding" at the position due to a changing modern offense, rather than a "return to prominence" so to speak. The new style of backs are ones that are hyper explosive, great in space, and good in the passing game. Think Saquon, Jahmyr Gibbs, James Cook, Aaron Jones, Bucky Irving, Alvin Kamara, Devon Achane, etc. There are still some good bigger backs if they are explosive enough (Derrick Henry, Johnathan Taylor, Josh Jacobs, ). A couple of tweeners in Bijan and Kyren Williams. Teams are no longer prioritizing a big, volume plodder like Najee Harris or David Montgomery, though those guys can be key pieces in a RB tandem. Teams are more willing to have 2 capable RB's and split time than they are to stick with one guy. You either have a top 5 back that can take 20 carries a game, or you are just okay with Gibbs, Achane, Jones, or Cook taking 15-18ish touches a game and finding another back to take the other 10 or so. Essentially, backs do A LOT more than they did 10-15 years ago... thus, they are starting to be able to command higher price

Basically the premier, explosive back is the most sought after back... therefore the back is back in.

Why are the Steelers so far behind in seeing this? It would be nice to have an analytics staff perhaps to point out the trends to the FO and HC. I also believe offenses are adjusting to defenses being designed to stop the pass more so might as well zig while they are zagging and run the ball.

yes and thats why you don't throw them at the wolves immediately. let arth work with them. ben came from a MAC school without much of a resemblance of college talent around him so it was a far bigger jump. what howard played against this season and in the naty run were many that will be playing on sundays this year. we will have to start at some point. we can't just keep saying he can't no matter who it is. when the cupboard is bare, you don't say i don't think i'll like what's in the can that someone gives you. if they offer two cans you take it. you can't hope that i get a check next year and can fill my cupboard.

Is there a Terry Bradshaw clone out there? A big game Qb with a strong arm?

Can we pair him up with a detail oriented no non sense coach?

    Drafting a
QB every few years is what Cleveland does. You who got drafted right after Kenny Picket. OJ Mcduffie in KC. We could have had that guy on the roster now.

I said elsewhere that there is only one Day 1 starter QB in this draft. All the others could use some bench time to learn the NFL game.
Why have analytics when the HC doesn't believe in analytics? Tomlin is a coach-from-his-gut kinda guy. Always has been and it shows up in his play calls, challenges and time management.

Mike Tomlin’s decision to punt on fourth-and-1 from the Steelers 34 with 8 minutes, 36 seconds left and his team trailing by nine points didn’t just flummox what was left of the announced 63,707 attendance at Heinz Field.

It also drew scrutiny on social media and even from the analytics crowd.

The folks at edjsports, a Louisville-based data company that determines win/loss percentages based on 400,000 computer simulations, determined that Tomlin electing to punt was the third-most egregious coaching decision on fourth down in all 15 NFL games played Sunday.

It even labeled the decision as “Tomlin’s Surrender.”

our room is pretty empty right now. you draft. cleveland also traded for and paid an idiot stupid money that crippled them. do you just stop looking for one because a few didn't work? baker is doing OK. maybe they should have kept the one they had. there is no perfect formula for getting one. you keep trying. taking one that won a national championship and one that led college football in passing is a pretty good place to start.
