This is from The Athletic, so there is a pay wall, but it goes through the Steelers' options. They would probably have to trade into the second round to get Shough. Their expert, whose overall rankings I posted previously, suggests Howard, Ewers, or McCord as fourth-round options for the Steelers. If they can get one of them in the fourth, I'd be much happier with that than Sanders in the first.

No, it doesn't. You can equally have a strong-armed QB that lacks touch and accuracy that is incapable of making NFL throws as well.

And it's not you can just coach touch and accuracy into a QB, as you've said numerous times about Fields.

My biggest hold up on him is the system he comes from. It doesn't translate well to the NFL. That isn't to say he can't learn (or be good in) a different system, but it leaves a lot to projection.

Sanders and Howard are much safer bets to at least be solid players. They run systems that translate much better to the pros, though both had very different surrounding talent. Howard was surrounded by elite players, while Shedeur and Hunter were pretty much the entirety of that Colorado team. You could argue that Dart's ceiling is higher (I don't necessarily agree) and I could at least buy that to a degree... Idk. I think pretty much every QB taken holds some degree of risk. It just depends which risk you want to take.

I’ve been quite clear that Fields needs to be developed. Never pretended he was the best QB ever just that he showed improvement and was silly not to see if they could bring him along further. Was also quite clear that him ever elevating his game to that level was a long shot.

Sanders is already a better QB than Fields based on accuracy alone.
And he has plenty of velocity on his throws.

As for Pickett, like I said, the only similar trait is his knack for running into trouble. At least Sanders hasnt developed the terrible habit of spinning into a sack.

With the exception of Ward because I havent looked at a second of his film to form an opinion, I think Sanders is the only one I feel confident will be a franchise QB.

If Sanders doesnt fall into our lap, Howard is my next guy.

You are comparing Pickett as a Steeler to Sanders as a college player, which is not apples to apples.

If you thought it was that long of a shot for Fields to elevate his game, it made little sense to keep their starter on the bench to give him more of a look.

So mane canon armed guys who went early in the draft, but ended with early careers I cant remember them all. Can also think of a few with 'just enough arm' that had some very nice careers. Al Davis loved speed and long bombs, had success with a few, lost millions as well, lol.

For anyone who wants to get to know Jaxson Dart a LOT better and form your own opinions, here is a video of raw All 22 footage from last year. An hour and forty four minutes of nothing by tape. You’re welcome :clapping:

They had a starter who was their best option for 2024 or a backup who had led a struggling offense for six weeks. If the latter wasn't in their long-term plans, the best plan for 2024 was to turn to the starter.

Brugler says the 2022 class was one of the all-time bottom of the barrel QB classes. Says 2025 isn't the same bottom. He says one QB will be taken in the top 12 picks, but 5 QBs will be taken by pick 60. What he says about Sanders I think applies to every QB but Ward. He says the team drafting him will need to be strong all around to support his play as he learns to play the position at the NFL level. The Steelers are not that team, with multiple holes and several ?s on OL.

The other problem for the Steelers will be what talent they will give up with whatever pick they use on a QB. A successful 4th round QB is far less likely than say a successful 4th round DL or RB.

Wilson was a mistake and they admitted that by not even offering him a contract and then pivoted to the guy they know they should have been playing all along. They got outbid. You’ve been saying all along Khan is very stubborn that way.

i don't think fields was the answer either. as is i don't think cam ward is as sure a thing as many are making him out to be as well. take this from the only guy that said we should look to brock purdy in the draft that year. he was just a winner. he did it on a team without all the blue chip players around him. i still say we would be further ahead with mccord, shough or howard as the next QB here. i think they would fit well with mason. i think they could fit well with smith's offense. they have enough knowledge of reading defenses to give you a good jump on them getting where we need them to be. you fill the holes around them.

we have a solid defense here.

the o-line is very young and should improve. this is not an instant position it's 5 positions. year two and year three for these guys should get better but it's not complete yet.

I have given up trying to predict which QB will make it and which won’t. It is a roll of the dice, with no choice but to keep rolling. Every QB bust was drafted by experts who knew a lot more than we do. And no one predicted that Tom Brady would be Tom Brady.
You draft the best one you can and hope for the best. A fraction of the QBs drafted ever amount to much.
It was a long time between Bradshaw and Ben.

Agree completely. At least we got 6 SB wins with those two. Can you imagine being a Browns fan with the Merri-go-round of QB’s that they have gone through?

we also got to another super bowl with one that wasn't them. it can be done without a 20 year franchise qb. you can't base what happened between bradshaw and ben and say it will happen like that every time. you find a guy that you have to coach up the least, that has a winning background to him and keep trying. i hope mason does get the nod from training camp into the season. he has never been given that trust or opportunity. he was basically thrown to the lions after his rookie year and the franchise got injured. i'm expecting him to be pretty solid under arth as well as our draft pick. i know most doubt that but he's had some years of learning the nfl up until now and i think he will be better than most think. given the number 1 snaps through camp. i hope rodgers retires. i do think mason can give us a NOD type of season. maybe not perfect but a hard out.

Your delusion about Mason Rudolph is rivaling PWP and his obsession with Ike Redmond being the next Jim Brown, Anthony McFarland being the next Barry Sanders and Darius Heyward Bey switching to safety.

One thing that we agree on is that we all hope he plays well for us. I would rather see the Steelers win than be right about a player's performance. I'll eat crow all day long if it means the Steelers are winning.
