yea this should fix the problem the nfl has in pick and choose officiating.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nf...&cvid=449423afef6a4e4f8730fb8a470d5749&ei=114

no doubt it has gotten bad. is this to make us believe they are fixing it or just eye candy for the fans. how many times does TJ get held and once in awhile it's called. how about the pick and choose when to call pass interference on porter or any other DB. yes calls can be missed but some of these are just ineptness. do you think it is about who they want to make the call on? there is no doubt they can change games and have at times.

Hard to believe they refuse to use the technology at their disposal to correct glaring mistakes.

It is often spoken that a penalty could be called on every play, this is one of the issues. The things you spoke about Mac and the inconsistencies of when they choose to throw the flag. "This year we are focusing on ????, they over do to it emphasize and then back off as the year goes on, because of game flow they do not throw flags ( or are told not to), then throw on something they have let go all game. Many rules and the speed of the game means they will never be perfect (who is), but id you see it throw the flag, I dont care of its 6 plays in a row, a team will correct themselves quickly, do the job correctly and consistently and the game will clean itself up, the changes in how and when they throw..even within the framework of a game brings all the negativity.

it boils down to and like anything else, follow the money. networks have advertising and time allotments for that advertising. it's huge money. they can't let those games run over very long. remember the Heidi game? many here won't.

I can't lay it all on the refs. Have you read some of the rules out of the official rulebook? Terrible. For example, what constitutes a hold on a defensive pass rusher, specifically regarding rip moves by the defender. Far too much subjectivity. But I get it. The NFL doesn't want their $100M QBs out of games by the time postseason rolls around.

Or how about taunting? "He gave him beady eyes, that's a penalty"..

Plenty of examples to pick on..

Dammit, his name escapes me but a Steeler lineman once said that holding could be called on every play.

As a Steeler fan how can I ever confess I once was a Raiders fanatic, lmao. We got one station out of Erie, they played the AFL and the Raiders were on a lot, Fred Belietinkoff was from Erie, and I thought Lamonica the mad bomber was so cool. Hey I was 8 years old, so give me a pass, lmao. I remember the Heidi game well sitting with my Raiders helmet on.

That explains a family mystery I've had with some relatives living in upper central PA. They were diehard Raiders fans back in the day. Either they couldn't get the Steelers on the tube, or they thought the Raiders were a better watch than a team 150 miles away.

The NFL could very easily become scripted, like (spoiler alert) pro wrestling.

Until we got cable in 70 it was 12 out of Erie, with very occasional weak signals out of Buffalo, you know one brother standing outside, the others lined up to turn it until dad saw enough squiggly reception to watch Hee Haw, lol. We did not even have a UHF knob on the old B&W TV. When the Steelers hired Noll and they began the rise we got channel 11 in the cable package, the immaculate reception, capping that historic year by Franco made me throw out that sickening silver and black head puke and I never turned back, lol.

Dad complained that he had to pay 6 bucks a month, one of the best investments ever made, lol.

Growing up in the 60's the only time the Steelers were on TV was when they played on the road. All of their home games were blacked out. CBS always had the Packers as the early game and either the Rams or 49ers as the afternoon game. NBC carried the AFL with usually the Jets or Bills as the early game and either the Raiders or Chiefs as the afternoon game. There were no night games or Monday night football back then.

It was years ago and this was mentioned to Art3 while doing an interview. He said something like, what do you do with them for over 6 months of the year? (not exact, but in context) These officials for the most part are in successful professional fields. CPA's, lawyers, etc. How they manage that AND being an official with the workload in the article is pretty impressive, and while the NFL pay is substantial, it is not necessarily huge compared to what professionals make in other fields. have no real ideas, except the game is far more complicated and needs officials who are just as involved in perfecting their 'craft' as the players involved, and that has evolved from a period where guys were driving cabs on the side, to a complete 12 month program, both on and off the field.

The NFL has been slowly digressing from a quality of play standpoint for years now. The biggest culprit is the officiating. Nobody knows what a catch is anymore or how to tackle someone without getting penalized. I understand player safety is a priority and it should be but the NFL has eliminated all manner of being practical when evaluating what is and isn’t intentional and unnecessary roughness to the extent it has really watered the play and made the game less desirable to watch. The three penalties that have really bothered me are the defensive interference on the CB’s, the lack of holding calls on the offensive line and the roughing the passer calls. Its getting to a point where these guys are going to get injured in an effort to try to torque their body so they don’t tackle wrong or cause a roughing the passer penalty. Honestly they should just get rid of the pads and helmets and go with three down lineman on offense and two down lineman on defense and do a three mississippi and put flags on the guys because that is essentially what it has become without saying it.

What do Schools do with Teachers for three months out of the year. The job is paid handsomely enough they would have no problem getting younger more dedicated iindividuals to this profession. These officials could also work at practices of NFL teams and training camps to essentially narrow it down to more like three months off. What highly paid professional wouldn’t want three months off.

The NFL could also have these guys go on speaking and teaching tours during those three months to promote the game and educate other countries and cultures on the game. The NFL has more than enough money and they are always looking for ambassadors to promote the game.
