Technically, yes. But his predecessors didn't have NIL money to at least bridge some of the gap. Manning took home the most NIL money of any college player last year, $6.6M. He also signed a contract with Red Bull, haven't seen the details of that yet.

On the other hand Caleb Williams signed a $39.5M deal as the first overall pick last year, fully guaranteed. So, assuming he'd be drafted early on, he'd still make more heading to the pros.

    You are missing one fact

Football players pretty much play a limited number of years

By staying in school for one year for NIL money he is loosing one year of NFL quarterback money on the tail end

That is a big financial loss

Which brings up the Question: Why is everyone assuming Manning is coming out in 2026. He will only be a junior with 1 year college starting experience if he comes out early next year. Don't like your draft ranking kid, here is another $5 million in NIL money to stay at Texas for another year.

He may want to stay in school and develop for another year. And then, where would all the Steelers fans be who are wanting to tank the 2025 season to draft Manning. :)

Nick Wright on FS1's First Things First says Steelers will pick Shedeur Sanders at 21. I don't see Sanders dropping that far. Browns, Giants or Saints will get Sanders.

    Steelers need DT/DE.

Maybe not, but I'm sure having $6.6M would've made that walk you made uphill both ways in the snow a little more tolerable.

Disagree, I have seen a lot of kids go on Day 3 of the draft because they came out a year to early. And they were probably out of football a few years early, because they didn't stay in school, so they could go in the 1st or 2nd round.

That 1st round draft status is worth its weight in gold for being given second chances. It is funny, the Steelers QB situation is terrible, but when was the last time this team did not have a 1st round QB on their roster? Steelers sign 1st round pick Paxton Lynch and Dwayne Haskins because they were at one point in their life 1st round picks. Hell, Trey Lance just signed a $6.2 million contract with the Cowboys; you think he does this without be a former 1st round pick?

Where a player goes in the draft means a lot for many years to come in a players career.

    I don't really care.

On NFL draft buzz, under weaknesses, it says 8 7/8 hands. But whatever.

    That’s nice but irrelevant

The conversation was in regard to Manning if he is ranked #1

But I certainly agree a guy who may go in the third might just be better off staying and possibly going higher the next year etc

I really hope the Steelers don't wait and go all-in on the 2026 draft for a quarterback. This is how teams get stuck in quarterback purgatory for years. In my opinion, you have to keep taking swings until you find the right guy.

If Sanders drops out of the Top 5, I really like his chances at #9 to the Saints.

LOL. I guess I am not the only one thinking this.

Both DraftKings and FanDuel have the Saints as the favorites to select Sanders. DraftKings has the Saints at +300. New Orleans holds the ninth overall pick in the draft.

I agree and will add that it shouldn’t matter all that much of who gets the starting role. If a second round pick struggles in preseason and a 5 th rounder lights it up then give the the hot hand the call to start the season.

What's funny is if you scroll back up to his measurables they list his hands at 9 3/8". :cautious:

Bingo. Yes, Manning needs to show what he's got next year before everyone slots him 1.1, but he'd have to play the year left-handed to be thought of as a Day 3 pick.

Unless the Steelers traded up for him at that point. I don’t know what that would look like without a 2nd rd pick but if they can do a similar package like they did for Bush I’d be all for that. Bush went at 10 though, to jump in front of the Saints to 8 could cost a lot more.

Sanders is the one guy I think will be a successful NFL QB. I like guys link Dart and Howard and even McCord but I have concerns, have some Kenny Pickett draft class vibes with them.

Trading up for Bush was one of the dumbest draft moves in Steelers history. Sanders may live up to all the hype but it wouldn’t be worth going all in for him to that extent.

According the the draft card we'd have to cover at least 600 points, equivalent to another late-first on top of the swap of #21. But Carolina owns the 8th pick, and they're probably in the market for some quantity to go with quality so they can make some headway.

Future year picks are also typically de-valued by at least half a round, so next year's 1st alone likely wouldn't get it done anyway. I'm thinking this year's first and third, and 2026's second and third. Or they send a player and cut back on the draft capital.

Plus if you want to move up you need to pay a premium over “draft card” otherwise no gain for the team you are asking to move
