Jets are in the same QB purgatory. They're scrambling, tossing money at anything that resembles a QB. I'd hardly call the Jets signing Fields for $30 million an indicator Fields is worth $3 million, much less $30 million.

Fields does still have potential, but will it ever manifest into a capable passing QB? As others have noted, a running QB with sporadic throwing isn't ever going to compete with good teams in the playoffs. Is he better than Mason? Probably. I'd rather take a swing a Rodgers for a year or a rookie halfway through the season (after Mason holds down the fort playing his brand of mediocre football).

Would I have been upset if they had signed Fields? No, not really, but I don't see much upside with him either. He's shown he can run well, occasionally toss a rope downfield for a big gain, but he can't consistently throw well. MAYBE they'll have just the right OC to get more out of him in the passing game, but I am not holding my breath on that one.

Exactly. The Jets are in competition with the Browns for the worst-run organization in the league, so it makes little sense to judge Fields based on them overpaying him. This is an organization that once passed on a player because his rating on Madden was too low.

We don't know how much money they offered him. There were even reports that he wanted them to commit to him as their starter and they wouldn't do it.

The entire team collapsed during that five-game losing streak. That started with a loss to the Eagles, the top defense in the league. The Chiefs and Ravens also had outstanding defenses. They didn't have Pickens for the losses to the Eagles and Chiefs, then he somehow couldn't catch the ball in the loss to the Bengals. That left the Steelers without a legitimate NFL starter at receiver in those games.

Don't get me wrong. Wilson played poorly, too, but he faced circumstances in those games Fields did not have to handle in those first six games.

    correct

and this Fields turning things around is a bunch of bunk. he is 2nd rate - that is all. he does not suck but he is nothing special.

we are a 2nd tier team - will remain that. We ran into top teams the end of the Season last year and that reality sunk in finally for some of you here. and the Bunlges were HOT and HUNGRY. we were cooked.

    I knew it was coming

    This D is predictable (tomlin)
    this O is vanilla (tomlin)

the oline was young and banged up last year.

    and Pickens is brain dead.

Tomlin is going to coach until then and come out in a walker just to spite his haters.

Crap, so next playoff win is 2051? I am not sure I'll make it that long. Time to take a multi-vitamin and daily oxygen chamber visits.
