It’s been 21 years and my memory might be faded a bit but never did I hear about that draft pick being a reach.

Cowher was happy to finally have a QB like Tommy. Sometimes erratic, but had a game you could build around.

It is extremely unlikely that they would get a second-round pick as compensation for trading down in the first, not with a first-round pick that late. Moving up from 30 to 20, for example, isn't nearly as valuable as moving up from 15 to 10.

Golf went threw a period where the guys started bulking up but some didn't because it would hinder their swing.

I don't follow NCAA and I had zero idea who Ben R. was. First I knew Ohio had a Miami in it. I got pumped about it reading the old Steeler message board. It was so positive. Guys posting # 5 a coming and similar type post.

You've got a rather unique definition of what "considered a reach" means.

Ben wasn’t a reach, he was considered a top 10 QB. Giants would have taken him over Rivers but liked Manning most and knew they could trade Rivers for him.

As for the Steelers war room, depending on whos version you believe, there was never any doubt about Bens talent. Rooney made it known he wanted Ben and Cowher stated if Ben was still on the board they would take him otherwise they’d take Andrews. Either version recognized Ben was a top 10 talent.

With this current coaching staff, we could draft the next Tom Brady and we would ruin him.
Sorry, confidence isn’t high with the current coaching staff

Tom Arth and Arthur Smith? They seemed to have had Justin Fields on an upward trajectory, before Mike Tomlin pulled the plug.

Plus, Fields couldn’t get the ball in ez. I realize he was 4-2, can you imagine if he played the whole season what his record would have been?
We will see in year 5 how he does with Jets. I don’t see how anyone can help him, throwing and putting touch on passes is something he should’ve already knew how to do.

One of the reasons I want to move on from Tomlin and put an offensive minded HC in place.

Honestly, T is the common denominator. Everything else, parts and players have been changed. Ik Ik:beathorse:

I live close to Miami of Ohio and got to watch quite a few games that Ben played in. I was jumping up and down when he was still on the board at 11th pick. Whoever said he was reach obviously never watched him play in college.

Keep Arth. He did improve Fields mechanics, cleaned up his footwork. Doesn’t mean Fields was a competent starting QB after that, just that he did clean up that area of his game.

Here's a few trades with their point values:

    Steelers 21 (261) Rams 26, 90 (268)

    Steelers 21 (261) Kansas City 31, 66 (266)

    Both very plausible.

Admittedly, I didn't read through all the comments in the thread. IMO, Ward is legit 1st round talent. Dart is up there too. Neither will be on the board when we pick and I wouldn't be happy if they traded up to get either guy. I'm expecting teams to reach on guys like Sanders and Howard. I would prefer waiting to draft a QB next year after seeing what guys like Manning, Nico, Sellers, and Nussmeier do. The next tier of Klubnik, Arnold, Beck might be interesting to watch. Nico is my guy and I'm expecting big things from him this upcoming season. He has the physical tools, strong arm, accurate, and is a smart guy. Got to keep him clean though because he can't take the beating that big Ben or Josh Allen can handle.

I'm in the camp of getting a vet guy to keep Tomlin's non-losing streak in tact next year . Then going all in next year to invest as much draft capital as you need to invest in order to get an Arch or Nico.

Was reading somewhere that a NFL GM said Beck lowered his stock by transferring to Miami.

Value charts differ, but mine has 21 at 800, then 700 + 140 for the Rams 1st and 3rd.

    Then 800 for 600 + 260 for the Chiefs 1st and 3rd.
    l
Teams will sometimes overpay for moving up in the 1st, especially if there's a player they like.

Id wait to see what happens in cleveland before calling KP a dumb reach. He was after all, paired with the worst OC the steelers have had in the modern era.
