Can you imagine the QB room of Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and Jalen Milroe? That would make us yearn for the days of Kordell Stewart, Kent Graham and Jim Miller.

I see where you're going there, but I'd rather Tomlin get a lifetime contract as head coach/GM/Team President than to relive the pain of Kordell Stewart throwing one more worm burner on a 10 yard out. Guy killed more worms than Bill Dance.

As bad as it is now, 1998-2000 were agony for me. And I'm still not over the 2001 championship game.

Yeah Stewart was a terrible passer and was horrific in big games.

    His completion % from '97-2000 was 54. He averaged 12 TD's to 13 INT's.

The fact they finished 13-3 in 2001, considering he barely completed 60% of his passes and had a pitiful 14 TD/11 INT ratio, is testament to how good that defense was.

I hated him like poison. Even now, I possess zero forgiveness, nostalgic love, or even tolerance for him whatsoever. I was in my early 20's and rabid for football, and the frustration was terrible.:lolol:

I can't stop thinking about what AQL said. There's a good chance that guys like Manning, Nico, Sellers, and Leavitt don't come out. That could leave a very small pool of maybe 2-4 1st rd guys. That would leave us out in the cold again.

I'm getting so sick of being out of the running from getting so many playes. Jeremiah Smith for example, we have a 0% chance of getting him. You see all these players in college that you get excited about, year after year, knowing we'll never have a chance at them.

The NFL needs a points based draft where everybody gets the same points and you bid on the players you want.

I think it is important to remember eras too though. Completion percentage and TD/INT ratio was different than today's game.

In 2000, league average for completion percentage was 58%. Compare that to 2024 where it was 65%. Dak Prescott had the 22nd highest completion percentage at 64.7%, in 2000, that would be good enough to be 2nd in the league.... For INT's its a similar story. In 2000 there were 25 guys that threw 10 picks or more. In 2024, that number is down to 17 despite the ball being put in the air at a larger rate now than 25 years ago. QB rating is similar as well. In 2000 a 90.0 rating would make you the 8th best passer in the league. Last year a 90,0 rating would have put you just ahead of Kirk Cousins for 22nd in the league.

Now by most metrics Kordell was still a below average passer in his time, but it is really unfair to compare him to metrics like today. He was just ahead of his time unfortunately (like other QB's that ran). Teams tried to make every player that prototypical pocket passer and it ended the careers of players who could never be a good one. Kordell was always that, but if OC's back in the day were more willing to play into the QB's legs as an asset and not a curse, I think he would've had a much more successful career. How successful? Who knows. The game eventually developed to embrace it... just too late for Kordell.

Some folks still say he was the 3rd best QB in Steelers history. Or that he was ahead of his time.

Don’t worry. Rodgers will bump us up at least a few notches.

Bobby Layne and Bradshaw are in the HOF and Ben soon will be. Kordell Stewart was nowhere near the QB those 3 were.

Ewers has been creeping more and more into my thinking. Especially when you consider the injuries that he was dealing with. And this was under tremendous pressure btw. Not only being on a top team that everybody is trying to knock off, but fighting all the noise that the whole world wanted Archie to play.

Chris Simm's breakdown is very favorable.

Has Chris Simms broke down a QB yet that he doesn't like?

kyle mccord and late seth hennigan. get the guys that produced consistently and move on. JMO. nobody said we can't add to this down the line either if needed. they have shown they can get the ball where it needs to go. that's all we need. let the guys that get paid to be in highlights be in them. warren, DK, muth and pickens. protect the QB, block for the RB and look like a genius.

I watched Ewers play and other people were commenting in real time about Ewers lack of pocket presence.

Well, if you and 'other people' say it, it must be true. :applaud::cool:

What are you even talking about when you say pocket presence? That's a pretty vague term.

Pocket presence can be the awareness to sense pressure, extending plays with their feet while keeping their eyes downfield, the ability to move within the pocket and avoid sacks, making quick and accurate decisions, or remaining calm and composed in the pocket, and I'd even say pre-snap reads. Which is it?

Are you telling me that he that he possesses none of those skills? A three year starter at a premier football program? A guy who had his team within one bad quarter from the National Championship game, playing with a torn oblique, and confidently fighting off the one QB that the whole nation is dying to see play. Or is it Just that you personally don't want him, so you are listing some nebulous reasons why?

Pocket presence feeling the pass rush if you think he's good go watch him in both games against Georgia.

If Quinn Ewers is the pick, he will need a serious tune up on his pocket prescene and pocket management. Both of those skills are in serious need of refinement.

My pro comp for him was Sam Howell as the floor. Andy Dalton as the ceiling. He is very much a "trailer" and not a "truck"; someone who isn't going to get you very far.
