Can't put too much emphasis on combine performance. Good or bad.

I read that Sanders had a bad attitude at the combine during his interviews, and a lot of teams were saying HARD PASS. But, I believe this attitude problem is because he think he knows more about reading a defense than a lot of coaches out there. "Yeah, I already know about an NFL Cover 2, because my Dad has been talking to me about it since the 3rd grade" Sanders is going to be a pain in the ass for some young QB coach out there.

I like what Sanders was able to do last year behind a poor offensive line in Colorado. He will be elusive in the pocket; a skill that doesn't always show up on a stop-watch.

The Combine has its usefulness but the tape should always be more valued.

Ok fine, agree, but you have to show up, show your ability/skills, with no.pads and defenders it shld be an opportunity for these guys to show off how good they are, not showing up because ur agent doesn't want to take the risk of a bad performance i.e., Sanders running a slow 40, Sanders not showing the accuracy he is "known for" .... RED FLAG

Dart showed up and effortlessly showed natural talent, beautiful accuracy, the only missed throw was due to communication with receiver,

U have to pay attention to everything, combine is an opportunity for a prospect QB and should be seen that way,

Sanders belly flopped because his agent doesn't want him to be exposed ? What going on there... and on top of that u have his attitude.

The question I was answering was from the OP. I shared what I feel like I know about Sanders and McCord. That info comes to me from their play on the field. I never watch the combine.
Jaxson Dart is another QB I like in the first round. I watched nearly every Ole Miss game last 2 seasons. I only question him playing in the Kiffin system. How much was the system? He also hada total meltdown vs Florida when they were losing late but still had a chance to win. I like Sanders better though.
In the 3rd, if he falls, I like Kyle McCord. I'm not sure why he's projected so low. I would take him in the 2nd if we had a 2nd. Best pure passer in the draft, IMO. He not a running QB but he's not a statue either. I would rank his mobility with Herbert or Nix maybe.

Various reasons. There are accuracy deficiencies on tape. Processing beyond his first read wasn’t there much on tape. His arm strength is adequate but not great. Last year he had an all-world supporting cast. I’m sure I missed some of the other reasons he’s not projected high.

I think he’d need work, but I’d be ok if we took a chance on him in the 3rd. He’s very tough and he’s a winner. He’s just probably going to need a red shirt year. And for us there’s the question of whether we can develop him to his potential.

Ok here you go Dart combine,

As far his game against Florida? I expect bad throws and bad games that's how you improve

Sanders? Dodged it all, I've seen Sanders highlights, his highlights are not that great, so much so that he needed to show more like show what he can do at the combine, but he didn't show up, wrong move, Sanders is a car crash in the pros, not drafting him, Shough over Sanders

Or Heisman, stats, size, list goes on. Tee Martin lead Tenn to a national champ, Peyton won a couple of SB's. A lot of QB's had college better than Mahomes, where are they now? I have no idea if Howard is going to be a good Pro, I see many OSU QB;s who were very good in college, one had started out well in his pro career. At this level it is not only the physical, athletic, and mental component, where and who they end up with can determine a lot.

This is one of the reasons Dart scares me. I like him, but not at more than third-round value. I feel much of his rise into the first/second round has been the product of the supply/demand push from a subpar class. I read somewhere where he had one of the worst completion percentages of the top-eight QBs when under pressure last year, with a 23% sack rate (edit: did a search, it's here).

I know your position is if a team feels certain about a guy at QB they pull the trigger, and I get that. But call it memory bias, but I remember when they've had focused needs over the past ten years and we've seen Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns, Devin Bush, Terrell Edmunds, Kenny Pickett, Broderick Jones (I'm okay with him, not the way they've used him). Guys they gave up good draft capital for who were reaches, didn't fit their system, or they otherwise couldn't develop.

I think most of it stems from his view as a day 3 prospect prior to coming to Ohio State. He was pretty good at Kansas State but there was the question of how he fit into the NFL. There's also the fear that he was propped up by Ohio State's insane cast of offensive playmakers (led by Jeremiah Smith, future top 5 pick... but Egbuka, Judkins, and Henderson all have first round talent as well). I don't necessarily disagree, but I also don't buy that to an extent either. I think he's viewed as having a low end starter or high end back up ceiling, but I also disagree with that as well. He could easily be one of those guys who falls to the 3rd round because of concerns about his ceiling and end up a Dak Prescott, Kirk Cousins, (prime) Russell Wilson type of player. He's got swagger, leadership qualities, and all the tools you could ask for in today's game. I'd be surprised if we didn't like him a good bit.

The thing I like about him the most is his competitiveness. He has a bit of Baker swag to him, and I think his teammates rallied around that at OSU. He also throws a pretty nice deep ball, has a strong arm, is mobile enough for his size to be used a bit in the designed run game in the red zone and short yardage situations. Most of all, I like his comfortability under center. He is sound under center, in his drops, and shows an aptitude to process the field. He is also pretty good with his eyes and in PA... I think that he could fit very nicely into Arthur Smith's offense. I could see us trade back in the first and take him with a second round pick, or even trading up from our spot in the 3rd. We said we want "winners" and he has that in spades.

Dart scares me a bit too, but I would be fine if we liked him. I get more scared that he played in a very QB friendly Kiffin system that won't translate to many NFL offenses. He could end up in a spot like SF or Miami and thrive, but I think options like Howard are a better fit for what Pittsburgh likes to do. Get me the bigger armed prospect in Howard, who is good under center and in PA.

All in all, I think Sanders is probably the #1 QB in my eyes for us. He is a true pocket passer and has the ability to process and read a defense. He is going to take some SACKS early in his career because he is willing to just sit back there and let the plays develop (he rarely takes off and runs), but he has the ability to develop into that high end pocket passer. His game truly reminds me a lot of CJ Stroud, he just lacked the supporting cast at Colorado (outside of Hunter of course) that CJ had at Ohio State. They are VERY similar types of players and I think he could come in and have a Stroud-like rookie season on the right team.

I care pretty much zero about the combine throwing drills. I care a lot more about what happens on the field. I doubt too many teams are all that worried about a few bad passes in shorts to WR's that he's never played with before. What he put on tape shows a pretty capable player. Not sure where he ends up going, but I would LOVE to have him if he lasts to the third round (I wouldn't even hate it if we loved him and traded down and took him in the first).

I share your sentiment here. I don't think its an entirely foreign belief either, as Pat MacAfee and his crew all said something similar to the effect of him being massively underrated and undervalued for no real apparent reason. A poor combine showing really doesn't matter at all (plenty of guys haven't been great at the combine and turned out good, while people like Zach Wilson looked like future stars in shorts and amounted to nothing). Maybe the view is that his ceiling isn't that of a top 5 QB? But I care les about that too.

At this point he is every bit the player and prospect (better in my eyes) than Drew Allar, and that guy is very likely to be a top 10-15 pick next year. I'd be more than fine if Howard is the guy we liked and we take a shot on him.

I get both sides of the argument, valid point for sure. The Pickett draft class is a cautionary tale.

It sucks we find ourselves in this position. Tomlin doesn’t exactly instill confidence in choosing QB’s either, been involved with bringing Pickett and Mason here. Can only hope Khan and Weidl are better at it and get the next one right.

Of course game film is far and away the most important evaluation tool, but there are evaluation benefits of combine throwing. You can see guys attempt throws that aren’t in their college offense. You can also see how natural they are as throwers in terms of accuracy and touch, especially considering that they’re throwing to guys they’ve never thrown to and have to adjust to what they see in real time. Receivers can be disrupted at the LOS and a QB needs to adjust in a split second to the speed and depth of his receiver after being jammed vs. where he is supposed to be. Those are just a couple of examples. It’s not the primary evaluation tool, but it’s helpful.

I’m not sold on Dart as a 1st rounder, but he looked very natural making all of the throws at the combine, even throws you don’t see on tape at Ole Miss. he adjusted effortlessly to just about every receiver he had to throw to. His accuracy and touch were very solid. That tells me that there’s potential for him if he can learn an NFL offense (Ole Miss’ offense is very “college” one-read style). I don’t have time unfortunately to go back and study hours of Ole Miss game film, but if I were evaluating him I would be focusing on figuring out why the offense faltered when the vertical options weren’t open. They ran a lot of multiple-vertical combinations, and I’d like to better understand what was limiting their success in the short and intermediate game. How much was scheme and how much was Dart not seeing what was there for the taking. I know that there are YouTube videos that will “show” me that, but they will break down 2 or 3 plays and say “that’s the guy.”

There are so many names from the past I cannot remember them, but on Patrick a week or so ago they mentioned the absurdity of early rankings, A few names were mentioned, some QB and a few other positions. Some were pre-labeled as cant miss and were at the top or near the top of the draft. Most dropped significantly, others went out of the first round.

The draft process/board for each team is different. The history (especially recent history) gives insight of how well they prepare, and/or how much they will reach out of desperation and clamor to get 'a' guy'. The last decade under Colbert showed some real weakness, the first 2 years under Omar have been mixed for me. I think some of the choices seem really good and have potential, the other decisions at times seem problematic. You only have so many picks, you only have so much money..I get it, but the focus seems trying to fix specific needs, then losing ground in other areas.

IDK, it has taken years to try and fix the O line, still not done. Can't find a secondary, how many MLB have we gone through, DL???? If they take one of these QB's in the 1st they better make sure to build and develop, or we are in for more years of this standard.

This class is Kenny Pickett class 2.0.

Nothing to see here. They will all be backups at best if they make the team at all.

Dollars to donuts there will be more QB’s in this class that make it compared to Picketts.

Shouldn’t be a tough hurdle to clear seeing as only Purdy made it from that one.

You're giving me a "heads up" about a QB I have been watching every week for 2 seasons? Because he looked good at the combine? I'm not against drafting Dart. As I said before, I'm just not sure how much of his success was him or how much was playing in Kiffin's system. I know it was some of both. Matt Corral had success there as well.
What I do know, and this is why this was my answer to the question asked, is Shadeur Sanders grew up in the NFL. His football IQ is there with the Mannings, Heywards, Longs, I'm sure there are other NFL legacy families. (Joey Porter Jr) This is an advantage, IMO, especially at the QB position. Pre and post snap reading the defense, assigning protections, when to audible, being able to move defenders with your eyes to open passing lanes, etc. If a QB already understands these things day 1, like Shadeur Sanders, I prefer that prospect over the more athletically gifted prospect.

I'm not always right. I can't predict the future. I just analyze the way I analyze.
