It’s no secret that the Steelers are in desperate need of a quality starting QB and a franchise one would be a big bonus. I admit up front that I don’t watch much college football so I’m pretty much blind on opinions on these players so someone enlighten me on pluses or minuses on these 2025 QB class prospects. Names I am hearing are Dart, whom I know nothing about. Nolan, whom I know less about and Howard, whom some seem to steer away from for some reason even though I do know that he won a national championship. So what is it that you like or dislike about these players? Feel free to throw in some other names or tell me to wait til 2026 or beyond for that next elusive future Steelers QB.

Nobody knows what QBs will become franchise guys or won't. The Steelers NEED a QB. My opinion is you don't wait, you draft one. For the current state the Steelers are in with zero offensive identity, I personally think Shedeur Sanders is the best fit. He's not likely to fall to us and I don't like the thought of trading up, so probably won't happen anyway. Sanders is Deion's kid. Grew up in this league. He can learn a playbook and he can read defenses, mental part is the best in class. He would have Arthur Smith and Tom Arth to work with on any mechanics issues. At some point in the season he would take over for Mason Rudolph.

Kyle McCord may be the best passer. Most accurate at all levels of the field. Physically gifted but can he grasp the speed and nuances of the NFL?
Pretty much the question on every rookie QB ever.

I too don't follow NCAA to close. Steelers absolutely will draft a QB. What round???? It's rare you know you got a franchise when you pick. Burrows was a given and I'm sure there were others. Montana and Brady were maybe's drafted mid rounds I think. Have to get lucky in the draft and please don't make it like the years between Terry to Ben.

I would like to see the opinions of members who know the NCAA QB's.

Yes. That is probably the most I know about college QBs last year except that Howard won a National Championship but there doesn’t seem to be much interest in him. No idea why that is. From what I have seen he seems to have the build. About 6’5”, 240# and takes care of the ball. I don’t have much more to go on than that though.

Despite his lineage, Sanders is not a great athlete. More importantly, he doesn't have a great arm. The upside is limited. Do you really want to go that route.

mc cord can read defenses. has a quick release. good arm. can move around in the pocket. get's the ball to the right spot mostly. he can also know where to put the ball before the receiver is completely open. all these things are a good start for a guy to enter the NFL. i do think he and arth would work well together. i think he would be the best understudy for mason. i guess i have more faith in mason then most. i think he will learn better under arth as well. not sure mccord and mason are MT's vision of having a lamar though. i think that may be where the trouble starts. JMO.

He knows how to play the position really well. The '6 inches between the ears' is where Sanders beats the others, IMO. There have been plenty of QBs that aren't great athletes that find success in the NFL. I don't know what the others bring or lack, but I feel fairly confident Sanders leads them all in understanding how to play the game. If I'm taking a chance in the first round, that's the guy I'm taking.

Very weak. I think the only sure fire option is Cam Ward and I heard even he may not have been in the top 6 QB last year!

I am hearing we might take J Dart at 21. Kenny 2.0

this is a pretty good break down of mccords game. if you watch where he uses the triangle grouping of his receivers in their patterns, which is a huge part of arthur smiths system.

Because of his supporting cast, they had a great team.

I’m fine with that, let others sleep on him. He has all the tools to be a franchise QB.

Other names to watch besides Sanders and Howard:

    Dart
    Shough
    McCord

Dart you probably need to use a 1st on, Shough and McCord should be there in the 3rd. Shough is getting a lot of hype now, too so might go in the second.

This 2025 Draft Class is the mother of all crapshoots; even by QB Class standards. Cam Ward is the "safe bet" but his main issues lie in playing out of structure too much while being too dependent on making big plays as opposed to efficient ones. Sheudeur is the opposite but he doesn't provide much of an ability to make wow plays either.

Jaxson Dart may arguably be better than both. The main issue with him is that he is engineered to be an RPO, Play Action QB at this stage of his young career. Jalen Milroe has by far the most potential but also is by far the most underdeveloped. Will Howard may be the biggest gem among them all but is he maxed out from a physical standpoint?!

Again, not the ideal choice but Pittsburgh should be putting its QB hopes into the 2026 Basket. What better way to sell hope, excitement and potential than to draft the one in your own city?!?!

So who are the can't miss QB's 2026? The Manning hype is what it is. Hype. Who else?

If they draft Dart I would be good with that. I could care less if they draft a QB this season or next. Issue is can this coaching staff actually use said QB right?

The dining with Milroe makes me ill. A bust in the making.

I still have a problem why Will Howard doesn’t seem to garner much attention going into this year’s draft. I pulled up his stats just out of curiosity and it only enforces my belief that he could be great. So far the biggest and almost only argument against him that I have heard is he had a great team around him. Well, isn’t that what an organization should strive for? Maybe he made his team better but he doesn’t seem to get that recognition. As stated before I don’t follow much college football and am not a big Ohio State homer. I’m just looking at a QB who could fit and be able to succeed. Anyways here are his stats I found. 6’4”, 235 lbs. 5 year senior. 9,796 passing yards. 83 TD’s and 35 Int’s. Last season 309 completions on 423 attempts for a 73.1 completion %, for 4,010 yards and 9.5 yards per average with 35 TD’s and only 10 INT’s. College football National Championship and game MVP. What is to hate here?!?

I don't see him as a great prospect most likely to go in the mid rounds.

But he didn’t participate in the combine and nor his pro day. He’s either hiding something or exhibiting a level of arrogance that’s going to be a problem later on. Not worth it

He’s coming off a great season. Wins a National Championship and MVP. His agent probably told him to sit the combine out as it could only hurt his status.

Without a 2nd round Pick, it is going to be the 3rd round that the Steelers need to go QB shopping on.

I think Sanders, Ward, Dart, Milroe , and McCord will all be gone after the 2nd round, and maybe even the 1st round.

I like Riley Leonard over Quinn Ewers, if the Steelers can wait until the 5th round.

Howard had a terrible combine not showing a lot of arm strength and was inaccurate. That's why he is looked at no higher than a 4th round pick.

He meant Sanders skipped the combine. Howard was at the combine and did poorly.
