I doubt that is the case. He went to the chargers for peanuts. Probably was homesick more than anything.

I suspect they tried to before they declined the 5th

A year later now they were no longer interested

They have two after signing Gainwell, but he is far too similar to Warren. Of course, they had a solid back with remarkable durability, but they were dumb enough to let that go.

They didn't have to get him to agree to anything. They could have had him relatively cheap for one more year, then let him walk as the inevitable decline sets in.

One dimensional back, no lateral quickness. At least he held onto the ball.

just sad that we wasted a 1st rounder on him.

No, he's not one dimensional. He is an excellent pass blocker and useful receiver. His receptions went down because they have Warren as a third-down back, not because he can't make plays in that area.

One dimensional in that he's a north south runner with not much ability to change direction (not lateral quickness). I know he can block and catch passes. But it was always somewhat painful to watch him run with the ball. Bell looked dynamic in comparison.

5.2 million. Rest is incentives. He got a one year deal for less than what Warren got in base salary.

The Steelers overpaid for Warren since they will use RBBC, they should've used the lower tender on him.

I would like to have seen Harris with an above average O line... like Parker, Mendenhall and Bell had during their time as Steelers RBs. Seems like Harris was always running into a brick wall at the line of scrimmage. That's not on him.

Exactly. It wasn't all the line. Sometimes, he missed holes that someone like Bell would have found, but Bell's vision was extraordinary.

He did not get $9.6 M

His contract is actually only for $5.25 M

    The rest is only incentives

And 31 teams were not even willing to beat that amount or give him more than a one year contract

This should put to rest any foolish thoughts that the Steelers should have used the 5th year option on him

    • $3.75 million signing bonus
    • $1.5 million base salary (fully guaranteed)

You do realize that many of the incentives might be easy to attain, right?

A little over 5 million a year with incentives is peanuts in today’s NFL. If he makes more than 8 million a year then he is performing very well for the Chargers and they likely have a winning record because of his success. What I consider peanuts by NFL standards would be retirement money for me.

And Harris will probably double the amount of rushing yards by Warren next season .

Nah, just stating facts Warren is going to split carries with Gainwell and a rookie.
