For 2013, I present my always controversial Big Board of my Top 32 players. While perusing the list, it is easy to see which positions I always value higher than others. As I have said over the past couple of months, this is a terribly disappointing 1st round talent pool, outside of my Top 5. I have 5 elite players, after which is anyone's guess. I believe in an average draft year, many of these 32 would be considered 2nd round talents.

Some of the main conclusions of this board are the complete lack of talent at the skill positions - No QBs, No RBs and only 1 WR - and the fact that this is a defense dominated board. Some of the main omissions include Barkevious Mingo, Manti Te'o, any QB, and Cordarrelle Patterson. I also have Ansah much lower than most and a few edge rushers higher than most.

    Enjoy and tear apart! :lolol:

Wow. The only receiver you have is Tavon Austin? No Patterson or Allen?

To me, Patterson is a 1 year wonder who really wasn't all that productive. Simply a H-W-S guy. I cannot put a 1st round grade on him.

Allen is a bit of a different story. I really liked him after his sophmore season but took a bit of a dip as a junior even before his knee injury which continues to plague him. Quite frankly, I just did not see enough of him to warrant putting a 1st round grade on him.

thank you for your opinion on patterson. people think i hate tennesse when i say it. i have seen a couple of mocks with rhodes going to us and i noticed you have a high grade on him. we wont take a cb in the first. we never do but any chance he falls to 2nd?

Personally, I think there is a 0 pct chance Xavier Rhodes falls to the 2nd round, barring some type of unforseen incident. He won't get out out of the Top 15 IMO.

To me, and I'm no draft expert, but to me, the best thing the team can do this year is to attempt to move down a couple of positions and pick up some assets in this or next year's draft. Granted you need a trading partner, but IF we can do that, IMO, it is ideal.

A couple of positions would only give us an extra LATE round pick. We would need to move out of the 1st to make it worth while. I don't see it.

If we move into the 23-25 range, the customary compensation would be a 3rd rounder. There's big value to getting another 3rd rounder in a draft like this that is light on top end talent, but deep. Of course, that's why I see it being hard to find a trade partner.

I disagree that this is a weak draft class....... it just seems weak because there is no clear cut #1, or much drop off from the top to bottom of the rd........ I personally believe that this class is quite deep, and that a lot of stars will come from this draft......... in a yr. or 2, when the so called experts are posting their re-draft and explaining who teams should've taken, you will see many of the mid. rd. picks recast as 1st rounders............ I do agree that at 1st look, the so called value in the 1st rd. doesn't appear great, as opposed to the 2nd and beyond, but that is just a sign of how strong this draft class really is.. not the opposite

Nice job as always NB..I tend to think that the safties, Reid and Elam are too high and I like Ansah more than you but other than that, our big boards are quite similar..

i agree with you that the class is strong. the reason most people look at it as weak is because of the lack of qbs, rbs, wrs that are top guys.imo

sometimes you have to look deeper then just the player drafted. you have to look at who he's playing with and for, and who he's going to be playing with and for. how do these players compliment the players here already.

lot's of unproven talent at the top in this draft and i'm not to sure it's going to play out as most draft experts see it. i'm seeing more suprises in this draft then most. there is talent to be had in this one. even late and after the draft.

I applaud your work. I'm surprised Geno smith didn't make the top 32 and Barret Jones did. I also curious why you have eric reid as your top safety. I like him alot and have him as my 2nd rd selection. I read why you only had 1 WR but do you really think TE Tyler eifert has a higher grade than Tavon. I like Tyler and almost had him in my mock as pick #1 but I disagree with kiper and think #17 is too high for him.

I've read S.Fran is hungry for WR Tavon and fear we may take him. They have alot of picks and may move up to get him. Thoughts?

    Cajun-

edit: PS: Thanks for not having Teo and mingo as 1st rd grades... Teo' maybe but I really don't like mingo.

    Cajun-

I see Geno Smith as a less talented but more athletic Jamarcus Russell. I think the concerns about his work ethic, pocket awareness and football IQ are completely justified. This is a terrible QB class, pure and simple. I watched alot of Mountaineer football this season was less than impressed with Smith's output. He had a few big games, but just really wasn't all that good.

I really like Barrett Jones. He can play all 5 positions along the Oline and play them well. If not for his injuries this season I think he would have been a sure bet as a 1st rounder.

Reid is the biggest and the most athletic of the top safeties. He was also as equally productive. He was my #1 safety coming into this season and his play did nothing to change my mind of it.

I am a HUGE Eifert fan, but yes, I would not take him at #17 for the Steelers. He is the best receiving option in this year's draft. He has size, good athleticism and can high point the ball better than anybody. His production over his career was pretty good despite putting up with rather inept QB play.

If we could move down, I would take Tavon Austin, but #17 is too high IMO. There's not alot to dislike about him. He really made Geno Smith look alot better than he was statistically. I know height isn't everything, but I have a hard time taking a 5'9 WR in the 1st round, no matter how good he is. Because he could turn out to be really good, but its unlikely he could ever delveop into being a dominant receiver. I find his YPC relatively low for his skillset and wonder if it could even improve at the NFL level.

Agreed on Teo and Mingo. To me, Teo will be a capable ILB, not spectacular, but good enough. Mingo could very well wash out of the NFL in 3 years.
