Honestly no. The thought of him as our number one doesn’t fill me with excitement. But he’s not any worse than what else is out there.

Fields would have given me more hope. Although I’ll admit he’s more likely to disappoint than turn into a great downfield passer.

I’m not a fan of Darnold. And the rest of the market is pretty much equal to Mason.

I think we had similar arguments before in 2023 when you were sure he wouldn't be an upgrade over Pickett or Trubiskey. You were proven wrong then. Going forward, I don't think we lose anything by starting him over old, washed up QB's and he comes in a lot cheaper. How much success he has remains to be seen. It's a team game and I am not too thrilled about Tomlin's defense, OL play etc etc. If it weren't for Mason, I would be tuning out the Steelers till Tomlin leaves. If I am wrong and Mason flops, then I would be tuning out after four games.

I like Mason, but at this point as a backup unless he proves otherwise.

I think it would be very foolish to put all eggs in the Mason + rookie basket, unless of course they are looking to rebuild.

If that is the case, just trade TJ, Minkah, and Cam then. Imo

They absolutely ruined Minkah by playing him deep in centerfield

No, I wasn't proven wrong about Rudolph. He's a mediocre quarterback who had a couple of good games against terrible defense and fooled people like you into thinking he could be something more.

You are going to tune out after four games? I guess your fandom matches your ability to evaluate quarterbacks.

Yes, you were proven totally wrong. The argument was if he would be better than Trubisky or Pickett. I never claimed that Mason was franchise qb, just that he has potential to be an average/mediocre nfl qb that Pickett and Trubiskey do not (Mason>Pickett/Trubisky). You were a Pickett fanboy and had to backtrack your fandom when he was traded away. Stop trying to frame your argument that I said that Mason is some top Franchise qb and then tear that argument down.

As far as fandom goes, I think it’s foolish to watch a team that has players and coaches that you don’t particularly care for. If you want that crown of fandom for watching a team that will regularly make you miserable and put you in a bad mood, you can have it

Fields or Daniel Jones for 1 year are far better options that the washed up, old crap they're left with.

YES<---- Mason all the way, for the whole season. He showed nothing last year on a crappy team. He was good here.I bet he would have won some of the games Russ sucked in last year.

Agree. Mason certainly isnt a #1. But even if that's how this works out, Mason will do better than 2-15.

I dont mind running with Mason for a year. This has the makings of a rough season IMO. At least Mason is cheap. I will take 9-8 with Mason over 10-7 with Arod. Use that 40 million in other areas. The Steelers need help everywhere.

If we roll with Mason I’m just going to block out what he did with the Titans and hope he can build on what he did those last few games here.

Metcalf and Pickens are definitely tailored to Masons strengths and if the line plays to its potential and protect him, maybe he’ll surprise us.

Thats my story and Im sticking with it.

Signs are pointing at Minnesota for Rodgers, if they don’t sign him.., retirement is a strong possibility

As some others have said, we would be better off dealing TJ, Cam etc. if we are going into this season starting Mason Rudolph (won't happen, but still).

As brutal of a watch this season would be with Rudolph as our QB, for the long-term health of the franchise, it might the best option. We've just been continually running in place for a decade now.

If he’s our #1 we might as well not even play the season. It’ll be another 9-8 season with a first round beat down and back to the chalkboard. Honestly I think Russ just had a really bad last 5 games. Remember he didn’t have Pickens and the D played terrible. I don’t know why they let Fields go then Russ. They both know our system. We never let Fields open up. It was always 5-8 yard passes or run. If he does well in New York we’ll have egg on our faces.

Exactly. The Steelers are stuck in limbo right now. Anyone we sign is going to be a one year bandaid. At least Rudolph is a decent teammate. Let Mason chuck it deep on the cheap, and hope for the best.

Look closely; all the FA QBs available at the moment are in fact backups. That would include Rodgers and Wilson, both of whom are trying to leverage their history into one last gig. But reality, neither one of them will challenge the AFC unless the team signing them ends up with the #1 or #2 defense.

Minnesota has a chance to be the highest ranked defense so I could see Rodgers' supposed interest. But, like the saying goes, 'if you are thinking about retirement, you already are". Steelers had a QB that was thinking about retirement a while back, and we saw how that worked out.

Rudolph is a backup as well. And he is cheap. Nothing wrong with playing him until a chance at a franchise QB comes along.
