More proof that the judicial system is a lopsided joke.

I don't know what to think of this guy.

Hoping he turns things around for himself.

Holy crap! If that was one of us, they would have dug a hole UNDER the jail and thrown us in!

Wow. There must be mitigating circumstances we don't know about. The thought that someone could get off with probation when the charges include assaulting a police officer just boggles my mind.
Oh well, hopefully he develops this offseason so we don't have ANOTHER position of need to fill in the draft

I knew he wouldnt get jail time. The media as usual blew things out of proportion and such. I've seen "regular" people on 1st-3rd offenses in similar situations get LESS than Ta'amu did here. The fleeing/eluding police was dropped as it was an unmarked car. He's been in the NFLs "program" for this stuff and is going to be doing a lot of community service and other stuff and is paying to fix all the damage he caused.

The judge even said himself: “You shouldn't be treated any more harshly, but you shouldn't be dealt with a lighter hand because you're a Pittsburgh Steeler,” Mariani said.

Now that its over with he can start paying his "debt to society"/etc and focusing on football again.

Lucky Lucky Lucky. But like gp says it was probably blown out of proportion.

Hopefully he turns things around, because if he slips up again, he will never get another chance in the 'Burgh.

Probably true, Chab. But he has what I haven't--a lot more money, a prominent, well-heeled employer, and I'll say it again--mo' money. Plus, money buys you good, if not great, representation. According to the article, he's about 150K in already, and that's without paying his lawyers, or any civil cases. Good thing he's got future earning potential. He's gonna need it. There's his mitigating circumstances. It's better to hit him hard in the pocket, and make him fill the cup, than to have him on the taxpayer dime.

So are you gloating that he nearly killed people and showed no regard for anyones safety or that he got a break from a weak criminal justice system that has a history playing lets make a deal instead of dealing with what happened.

I like Ta'amu especially cause he lived in the town I work. I saw him play at the UW and was happy that he got drafted by us; but given what transpired I am not happy that he was let off lightly. I hope he uses this chance and becomes the defensive beast that I think he can be.

I don't think this was a victory for us but he can change that and do great things on and off the field if he wants too.

I value your opinions on this board and I enjoy reading them but this was a bad situation anyway you look at it.

That I was right and everyone was like you're crazy he's going to do time, some had him doing a lot of time. I'm guessing you are a little sensitive to this because you are a cop, at least I think you are from your handle but he didn't almost kill somebody and all the assault chargers were dropped way prior to this ruling so what exactly was he going to do a lot of time for?

Anyway, it was just a light hearted comment.

I think he was talking about being right about Ta'Amu doing time... I don't think he was making light of the charges at all. Lighten up.

If Ta'amu were a NE Patriot, this board would be apoplectic right now, that some criminal element got off scot free. And how the evil Bob Kraft had used undue influence to get him off.

    Leonard Little?

Edit: Nope, it wasn't him. He served 90 days for killing a woman when drunk.

Now that's surprising. Where I live, there was a horrific accident when a drunk hit a limo killing a little girl and the driver. They charged him with murder and is serving 18 years to life.

Yep. Stallworth, in Florida, I think, while he was a member of the Stains.
He was also recentley fairly seriously injured, while riding in a hot air balloon with his gf( i think), that hit some electrical lines...
    Karma, anyone?
Well, not really, `cause he didn`t die, but still...
I dunno about the whole `Moo situation.
I really don`t have any room to throw stones, given some of the mistakes I have made in my past.
I try not to judge too harshly, but, I am pretty sensitive to the nature of the situation, since I could very easily have killed people while driving around drunk.
Lucky for me, there was no car with a family in it, in between me, and the brick wall I went thru...
I have learned my lessons, and don`t repeat the mistakes of my youth, but I DO have a personal understanding of the seriousness of his actions that night.
I`m definitely not trying to come across as "holier than thou", because I am far from holy...
I can understand how easy it is, when you are young, to just go out and have fun, and think that you are hurting no one else...
But, I do believe he got off MUCH lighter than he would have, if he wasn`t (barely) a pro football player, with the ability to hire high priced lawyers to defend himself in court.
All I can do, is hope that he truly learned his lesson, and will take advantage of the second chance he has been provided.
Sometimes people don`t learn their lessons, if they aren`t forced to truly pay the price for them.
    Time will tell...
I hope for nothing but the best for him, mostly for selfish reasons... we could use some depth behind McClendon, and all the reports point to this kid having a chance to be a pretty damn good football player.
To be totally honest, yes, if he was on another team, I would be up in arms about how unfair the "system" is, and how this "thug", should have been locked up for at LEAST a year.....
As is, since he is a Steeler, I just hope he can turn his life around, and contribute for us, on the field.
    Win, Win, for all concerned...
And at the end of the day, he didn`t ACTUALLY hurt anyone, he just easily could have...
There, but for the grace of God, go I...
Yeah, I`m a bit of a hypocrite, but I admit it!
Same as telling your kid, "Do as I say, not as I do"...
Actually, if you have children, it`s better to model a good example for them, than teach them how NOT to be, by your actions, but I learned all that a little later in life, than most...
    LOL...
You can still TRY to teach them from the mistakes you made in your past, so they don`t make the same ones for themselves...
But it just don`t ever seem to work that way...
It`s not like I wasn`t told of the error of my ways by people that were older than me, and wanted to see me avoid making the same mistakes they made...
But just like pretty much every other young kid, I said... 'Bull****... You`re OLD... you don`t know what you`re talking about... you don`t know how it is nowadays"....
Had to make the mistakes for myself, to realize the truth in their words, and I`m sure the kids I try to talk to nowadays, think the same thing to themselves...
Probably been that way since caveman days, and probably always will be...
But one of the best signs I ever saw was on the wall of a local bar I was drinkin in, and it said...
"Learn from the mistakes of others, you can`t live long enough to make `em all yourself"...
Anyhow... Best of luck to `Moo.. I have a feeling we`re gonna need him.
And I hope he gets his shlit together, and helps us out...
    GO STEELERS!!!

When you look at what he was actually charged with and then look at what Scott posted about the guy getting 90 days for killing someone, there was absolutely no way he was going to serve any kind of real time and as turns out, not even a day. Do a search on what kind of sentences are handed out for more serious crimes and it puts it in to perspective better. What Moo did basically boils down to reckless driving. The prisons are over crowded and they aren't going to waste tax money on that by throwing him in jail. Hopefully he learns his lesson, next time he might kill someone.
