Rodgers likes to play games. It gets him the attention he craves.

With multiple teams still needing a quarterback, the Falcons aren't cutting Cousins. They would get stuck with a dead cap hit anyway, so they might as well keep him as their backup unless they can get something in a trade.

I don't think Mason is a "build around" QB. He's fine for a year or two spot starter while we wait to draft our next QB of the future. I'm leaning towards just rolling Mason and see what happens. I wouldn't expect us to be a playoff team with him at QB, but stranger things have happened. Then we can mortgage the future for one of the top QB's in next year's draft (Manning, Iamaleava, Allar).

But yes... the Tomlin/Rooney combo is quickly turning us into a clown organization. Poor ownership decisions and poor decisions by our HC (who has a ton of say in the direction of this organization) has led us to this point.

Kenny Pickett went 14-10 as a Steeler (15-10 overall), but he sucks... Record isn't everything. I do think that he's a fine enough bridge option (and probably a good guy to be a long term back up here) to bring on our next draft pick. We should get ready to draft a QB in 2026. Get Rudolph a shot this season and just see what happens. We will be competitive enough (though, I would expect us to have a losing season). Mason would be a good guy to help develop the rookie too.

Now that we have a true WR1-3, Frazier and McCormick with a year experience, Fautanu at RT, Jones back to his true position, I think Mason will do well. OC just needs to know everyone’s strength and take full advantage

Possibly, but he has a $10m roster bonus due shortly so if he is going to be cut it will be soon. I know they have said they’re keeping him, presumably in the hopes someone will trade for him and they at least get a pick back for their mistake

Does it matter if we have the second coming of Joe Montana? We still have a bum OC and this is why we struggle. And, furthermore, with our luck, we will land a diamond in the ruff qb and Mason will be benched again ... lol

Rooney is the one that wanted to bring back an aged HOF QB when it was obvious nothing was left in the tank. If Colbert and Tomlin had their way the Steelers draft a QB in 2020 and we aren't having this discussion.

Even if that is true, you are assuming Hurts would have been successful without the damn-near-perfect situation he has with the Eagles.

They're stuck this year. His $27.5M base is guaranteed, so if they cut him before the roster bonus trigger they must account for the remainder of his signing bonus prorations on this year's ledger. That results in $65M in dead money and $25M added against their cap (they're currently only $5M under).

If they designate him a post-June 1st cut they get to delay $25M in prorations until next year, but also must pick up the $10M roster bonus. In that scenario they end up with $40M in dead money this year, and their cap number is unaffected..

All they did was paint themselves back into the original corner they were in Mason's last year.

Mason should be solid at #2.
But it may come to fruition that he by default becomes #1.
In that event, best case, we finish 2-15 and have the first pick.

Don't you think that's just wasting another year? I don't see any good coming of signing Rodgers. Maybe he gets us to 9 wins. He looked used up with the Jets. We are really in the crapper on QBs for the next several years

Mason showed best qb play in Steel city since Rothlisberger. With Titans, he always moved the ball when he started. The problem was they had no right tackle and both Willis and Rudolph were running for their lives. Three of Rudolph’s interceptions clanked of receivers hands and one was a hail Mary at the end of the game late in the season where receiver just quit. Tennessee play calling was terrible and they were always in 3rd and long with inconsistent running game and receivers dropping passes trying to imitate Diontae Johnson. Their defense just quit 2nd half of the season. It wasn’t only not fair to Rudolph, the situation sucked for Will Levis too. Bottom line is Callahan was a terrible coach. In one game against Bill or Detroit, the Titans led at halftime. The opponents scored on second half kickoff. Titans drove midfield and punted inside opponent ten. On the first play opponent had a 90 plus run for touchdown. Titans punted again and the opponent scored again on punt return. Subsequently the opponents scored on every possession. After that game, or during the game , Titans quit for rest of the season.

Oh, stop it. Mason's record as a Steelers starter is 8-4-1.

Clearly he isn't the Steelers first choice. But there is no reason to think he couldn't do better than 2-15.

i always liked mason. he went 3-1 to finish here. better than the 4-2 start fields had. we have to protect him so get some offensive linemen in here and add to the DL. draft a qb and i think he has been in the league long enough to help a draft pick learn. i'd still try to get cooper rush in here. another guy that has some talent but was on a give up team last year.

    Can I answer Hell No.

Well , if you guys enjoy sleeping on Sunday afternoons in the fall , sure Mason is your guy.

I like watching exciting football. Please for the love of everything holy , please don't let Mason be the starter.

I don't think he will be anyways but I realize everyone is just bored at the moment and need something to debate.

    Oh Stop it.
This wasn't a dig against Mason fer christ sakes.
It's a dig against the team to get a high first round pick.
I know you've seen great QB's play on terrible teams and loose not because of the QB.
I don't know how I can more clear, I like Mason. He's just solid #2 that is better than a lot of #2's.
