Can’t believe I’m saying this, but thank goodness. If everything else falls apart he gives the team at least some security at QB.

Ownership doesn't have the balls to make the hard decisions, so whenever this charade hits the fan... its going to hit it hard. We're not going to have a "soft reset" type period where we might win 5-7 games for 2-3 years at most. This team is in dire danger of being REALLY bad for a while due to horrific mismanagement.

We're either going to get massively lucky on a QB not drafted early, or we're going to be bad enough to draft top 10 for 5ish years. The quality of this roster is deteriorating rapidly.

I know Rudolph has to be one of the richest backup qb's in all football.

He wasn't and isn't the answer, BUT should the Steelers mangle this QB hunt and forced to draft a rookie, this is a great backup plan, having Rudolph start (not quite even an average NFL QB, but better than some others that will be starting) and letting a rookie come along slowly.

Very affordable, makes complete sense given current circumstances. I'd rather pay Rudolph $8 million over 2 years than say Russ for $40 million over 2 years.

Heck, if they sign Kupp, suddenly ANY mediocre QB is going to look pretty good throwing the ball to Pickens, Metcalf and Kupp (when he's healthy for those 8 or 10 games). Freiermuth as a safety valve? Whats not to like? That would be a dream for any shaky QB.

Of course, our run-happy OC that likes to use all the good players as decoy could sabotage that.

so overpay a mediocre QB because we just signed a mediocre QB? Rudolph at $8 million is better than overpaying Fields to be our wildcat QB that can't really throw.

This at least forces Steelers to draft a QB again. They can't play FA roulette with QB's year after year, have to keep taking a shot at a rookie that comes through.

Rodgers would make Steelers better in 2025 than Fields. If we don't get Rodgers then yeah, we probably aren't winnnig a playoff game (and will struggle to make the playoffs).

I hate this signing ... Steelers FO is lost in the wilderness.

I hate to say it, but Tomlin and Khan have to go. Make Andy Weidl the GM.

What’s a better option? Rudolph isn’t great, but he’s not significantly worse than all the other FA QBs on the market.

Fields was the most intriguing because of his running, but he still hasn’t proven he can be a competent passer. And his fumbling issues are still there. He had 6 last year in limited playing time and was fortunate to only lose one.

Darnold might be decent but he likely isn’t. I l wouldn’t want to throw $100 million at him to find out.

Wilson is mostly done. Rodgers is mostly done. Cousins is done.

The Steelers aren’t going to the SB with Rudolph, but none of these others guys was going to take them there either.

Mason was the guy I really had hopes for.
    Those hopes sank quickly.

It's not a horrible deal as the other options are not good at all.
He fits into Smith's type of offense, though the mobile part is not so much so.
They could have done far worse.
It's a weak-kneed signing but there are some smarts to it, unless he thinks this is a #1 spot.

Our luck they'll draft Gabriel out of Oregon. Only QB in draft under 6 foot. Wilson can stand on his shoulders;)

The Steelers are constantly going 9-8 or 10-7 with a much ****tier team than they'll likely roll out this year. I'm as frustrated as anyone that we're in purgatory, but the hate is silly.

Hate to break it to you, but they signed Rudolph to be their backup. This does not affect the Rodgers situation.

Unless you are assuming he will be the starter, I do not understand this reaction. They need a backup. That is a reasonable contract for a backup quarterback.

Sure, it is also a little insurance in case Rodgers goes elsewhere, but they aren't handing the job to Rudolph.

I'd start him and just run with it. He has a big arm and may be good in the Pa game. draft a qb u like and see what happens

Roll with Rudolph and draft a QB this year. Dart, after a trade down in 1st to gain a 2nd for a DT, then RB, and another DT. Or grab one of the other QBs later in draft, but still trade down in 1st for a 2nd.

I'm tired of what Rodgers does, and it looks like they don't want Wilson at all.

I don’t agree. Trhe roster is exactly why they continue to churn out records that don’t put them in optimum draft position.

And yes, even coaching for that matter. Tomlin is a good regular season coach that keeps them in the hunt.

If they hit on a QB in this draft, like someone that can have a Bo Nix season that would change the entire feelings around this team. Maybe Dart can be that guy or Howard or even Shough enough.

The only real option to Rudolph is going with Aaron and praying he has more left in the tank than last year. I’m guessing that’s the route the Steelers still plan to go. There’s a chance Rodgers still has some magic left, but it’s a small one.
