We need a localized thread for random thoughts or announcements.

The Seahawks have traded Geno to the Raiders. How might this change the QB landscape?

They pick before us. If they want Dart, they'll have two chances to take him before the Steelers if they were hoping he'd be there in the 2nd. Plus, it's late enough in the first(18th) that taking him there is more realistic.

I also think whatever team(Titans, Browns, Giants) doesn't get one of the top 2 QB's, is going to be in play from 33-35. It could get crazy if teams like him more than we think. Maybe even one of those 3 moving back into the 1st ahead of the Steelers.

That being said, I do not want Dart in rd 1. But those who really like him, I think it will take a first, if he makes it at all. I would be ok with Dart or Shough in the 2nd. We won't finish bad enough to have a high pick next year anyway. Chances are neither guy will be "the guy", but we will also need a good backup.

After that, I'm looking at 4th rd. There's so many other 3rd rd prospects that have a better chance to help build this team. In the 4th I'd roll the dice on Howard, McCord, Leonard, Ewers, and reluctantly Milroe. At least one of those should be there. These are guys that are low percentage hits but the risk/reward is worth it in rd 4. Round 5 or later, whoever you think.

From what I've heard, the Seahawks are going to take a run at Darnold. From what I've read, Darnold's big sticking point is wanting a three year contract, and I'm pretty sure the Seahawks would be willing to give it to him. Geno wanted $40 mil, and the Raiders seem willing with that.
And if chances are neither guy will be "the guy", then you don't draft him in the first or second. Made that mistake last time.

Pretty sure a 1st round WR is off the table for this year. DL or CB it is.

Pretty much. I'd say DL is a lock. If they don't get one in the first they'll have to wait till pick #83. Probably at least 10-12 DT/3-4 DE prospects will be taken by then. The class is deep but now you're getting into tier 4 territory.

No position is a lock and no position is 100%out of the question. First round is BPA.

I hope the Steelers don't over think this, if Kenneth Grant is there at #21 then take him.

I like Harmon and Nolen over Grant in the first round. 'Now watch all 3 drop to the 3rd round.'

i think OL is still in the mix. especially if they end up cutting seumalo for cap money. he and ogunjobi would give them almost 15 mil. the steelers seem to like some of these later picks at DL like toledos alexander. ND's rylie mills. texas broughton. VT peebles. nebraska robinson. pretty quality guys still that deep for the DL. plus we still have lee from last year. there are options.

I'd be much more willing to do that now. Maybe pick up a 2nd or 3rd to replace the 2nd we lost.

Even if we would move down to 33-35, there will still be some quality DT's left.

Yup. I want two 2nds and will like to draft a DT/ RB or DT/CB as the 2nd rd picks.

    Harmon/Judkins being my favorite

I wouldn't be upset. Depends on who we get in FA.

He had one of the all time greatest combines ever. Heck yeah I would take a 6'4" 220 lb safety who runs a 4.38 forty.

I seriously hope the team does bring him in for a Pre Draft Visit.

Dude is definitely needed given the fact that the Steelers can only rely on Minkah at the moment.

Honestly, I am getting more on board with settling at QB (Wilson) this year and figuring out QB in next year's draft. Let's build out our room full of weapons and swing at QB next year. Khan hinted at not being happy with the performance of our top paid defense, and maybe shuffling the attention to building a quality offense takes more of a precedent.

In this case, for as much as I'd hate to see it, I think it is best for us to try to trade TJ on draft night (and subsequently Heyward at the deadline). Extending Watt at 35-40 million a year is going to kill us when we start to be ready to ramp up again into a competitive team. He probably has 2 years of prime ball left, and I'd hate to be stuck with a cap hit exceeding 40 million when he's 33/34 and declining. He's worth the extension, I just think it isn't the right decision for the team. If we traded him (market for him HAS to be a 1st + more), we could then draft an EDGE and an RB in the first this year, and use that additional compensation to package with our current 3rd rounder to get back into the second round and get a DL. I'd also extend Pickens around the same money DK got (similar stats and players). That puts us in a position to draft QB next year and then add another DL or CB in the second round. It sets our rookie up with a young line (with adequate draft capital investment), a really nice WR room, some explosive backs in Warren and whatever rookie we draft, plus Muth and Washington. Not a bad deal.

This also likely means Tomlin is out at HC. I doubt he'd want to stick around and try to develop a team through a "rebuild". Hell, maybe we could even trade him. We would focus on putting together a coaching staff that would be conducive to developing the QB of the future. Maybe a HC like Brian Flores and some young talented coordinators. Give our guy the BEST possible chance to be good. I think I could live with that scenario, and if we draft well over that span there is no reason to believe we wouldn't be able to turn it around quickly. Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow both have shown how quickly a really good QB can turn a really bad roster into a pretty good one. Both had very early playoff success after being drafted by dumpster fire organizations.

I agree, TJ's deal has disaster written all over it. Get out while the getting is good. The guy plays like a maniac and really feels like he's slowing down. It would be different if we were right in the middle of a serious SB indow. We aren't. We need a couple more good drafts, and that young OL needs to develop. Not to mention a F***ING QB. We could trade him for picks next year, while he still has value.

I'm shocked that Ed Bouchette, Steelers homer, said this about TJ:
“I’d either let him play out his deal, or, this is blasphemy, I‘d trade him. They were gonna let [Troy] Polamalu go if he didn’t retire,” Bouchette said. “I don’t know,I just think [Watt] has a special place here, but me, I’m gonna be Bill Belichick here. I’m gonna be cutthroat. I’m saying we’re not winning this year, probably not winning next year.”

Yeah, I'd agree. He's a great player, and one of my all time favorite Steelers... but he has serious value to a contender and we might need that draft capital to better this team (especially at QB). If we suck this year and we don't end up trading him, its going to be a huge missed opportunity. It would make me really sad, but I would understand that reasoning behind it. It just might be the right decision for the future of the team.

I just learned that Kurtis Rourke played the entire season with a torn ACL. I love the way he plays but thought his mobility was limited. Yeah, no s***! I checked out his tape at Ohio, before he transferred to Indiana and, big surprise, he can run. He's not Jalen Milroe, but who cares.

I'm really interested in this guy now. I've mentioned taking him before but he could be a 5th -6th rd gem. I don't know if he's gonna be ready cause he had surgery after the season.

6'5"/220 lbs, with lots of starting experience. Almost took Indiana the distance this year.

Update on the Metcalf trade: the picks have been finalized. Obviously the Seahawks get our 2nd (52), but they also will receive one of our 7ths (223) while we get their 6th (185).

    So our current picks are:
    1st (21)
    3rd (83)
    4th (123)
    5th (156)
    6th (185)
    7th (229)

Is a draft day trade in our plans? Who are our trading partners?
Who could be shopped by Steelers to bring back meaningful draft picks?
