Lovely. Another smallish running back to pair with Warren. Gainwell is a poor man's Warren. I hope they aren't counting on him to do anything more than replace Patterson.

If given the opportunity, he can produce.

    He’s also a kick returner

    He could return one.

Replace Warren in that third down RB role maybe.

I hope that's not what they are doing. They need a back who can share the load with Warren, not one who can be a lesser version of him on third downs.

It's funny to listen to the national media types talk about Harris today. At the very least, they recognize his remarkable durability and see what a great fit he is for the Chargers.

They can find that RB to share the load with Warren in the 4th or 5th round. I think Gainwell is shiftier than Warren, he made some nice plays against the Steelers on third downs last season.

Everyone makes nice plays against the Steelers on third down. It's kind of our thing.

Really hoping this isn't the RB2 (or RB1) they envision. I'm fine with them drafting another to slot in there, but they have other needs as well. I continue to wonder if they're looking for a pre-draft trade to gain back some picks.

I was watching Gainwell last spring in the UFL with the St. Louis Battlehawks. He was the 3rd down back for that team. Go figure. Some RBs are still a dime a dozen, I guess.

I think he will be #3 on the depth chart and will draft someone still.

    Spells the end of Patterson.

Sounds like the Chargers got a bargain.... but the fans don't agree:

Eh. Depends on the money. We need a full RB room, but if he’s expected to be anything more than the 3rd option that’s not good.

Great. You found a couple of whiny fanboys to criticize the move. I've seen professional analysts saying the opposite: his durability and style make him a perfect fit.

Being durable only gets a body on the field.... 43% rushing success rate (49th in NFL)... just ahead of Zeke Elliot. Give Chargers credit for making half his pay based on incentives.

You are correct. It was Gallman, the former 3rd down back for the Giants.

I didn't need them to bring in any FA.. I sure hope this doesn't mean they may not draft a RB because I wanted them to draft 2. That's where the value is

Where did you get rushing success rate from and how do they qualify success?

He was over 1,000 yards every season despite quarterback play that ranged from spotty to bad and poor offensive lines. I think the Chargers deal appealed to him for a number of reasons beyond the money. At the top of the list are the opportunity to run behind a strong offensive line and share the backfield with a good quarterback.

Makes sense. RB and KR.... Decent depth that can be valuable on the ST unit. It works for me. We're going to draft one at some point too.
