Guaranteeing 40 million to a 41 year old QB would be just insane.

Question for all, does anybody believe that there are any realistic options left out there that lead to us winning the SB this year? Seriously now? Nope.

This organization is just a hulk of a once glorious ship, slowly sinking in some old forgotten port.

With that being said, and conceded, I'm actually pulling for them to bring in Rodgers. You either catch lighting in a bottle, or get to go to the circus. He's not only our actual best chance of winning ANYTHING, but his signing could really shake stuff up. The season could quickly become a disaster. If it did, I'd LOVE if he could really piss Tomlin off, and ruin his stupid no loss record all at once. Knock some of the smug out of him. That also helps our pick in the Pittsburgh draft. And you get the entertainment value of watching it blow up in Tomlins face. This organization needs to be jostled back to life.

At least this season might be fun, one way or another. Winning big, or a much needed shakeup. Though, chances are that we finish 9-8 and the season ends in a, very predictable, unspectacular way.

Rogers did spend a lot of time here.
As I said in another thread, He's probably a HoF QB but I think he is done.
The Jets are tough to base anything on, they should not even be allowed to have a QB as they #$%^ up everyone they get.
But 41 years old is tough to justify.

This is where the Front Office fails in my opinion.
If you have a need, an obvious need, you go after the solution hard. You cannot sit on your thumbs and procrastinate.
    QB looms large.

Positivity you say??? Ok well he can still get the ball to his receivers, Wilson broke 100 receptions for 1100 yards and Adams 67 rec for 854 yards in 10 games.

His QB rating on 20+ yd passes was slightly better than Wilson (but Rodgers did have better players to throw to).

Agreed. The Steelers may have really screwed themselves. Their two best options right now seem to be a pair of old quarterbacks who don't seem to realize that they aren't great any more. Wasting a year of that huge deal they just gave Metcalf would be a downright criminal, but that could be where this is headed.

They should have got a defintive answer on whether Fields can be the future, they did not get that, and threw that opportunity away to go with a washed RW who let's remember was paid to leave Denver. Now they're in a bigger mess than they were at QB after KP got traded away. If they're forced to bring back Wilson it's already clear by now that they don't really want him (they can't sell the same hype twice), or bring in a toxic 40 year old who can't run, who brings an entire circus with him, thus ensuring the Steelers are going to be drama clown-show all season.

    What a shambles.

Fields isn't the long-term answer. Most of the league agrees with that assessment. The best he could do was bridge-quarterback money from one of the worst-run franchises in the league. He must have a good rating on Madden for them to give him even that much. (I wonder how many folks here will get that reference. Every football fan in New York would.)

We never dug deep enoug to find out conclusively, but he could have been a better bridge to the future than what we're looking at now. Could have given him a 2 year deal, and extended the trial while now over extending themselves financially or bringing in a washed up circus.

We're just in a worse spot for no reason. Piss poor strategic thinking.

They didn't need to play him last season to sign him now. They simply don't think he's very good. The Steelers needed a No. 2 quarterback behind Wilson when they traded Pickett. Fields came cheap. I don't think the Steelers ever saw him as more than a backup.

Tomlin and Colbert screwed this team for 10 years, back in 2019,2020. I have said that for 5 years.

    Get USED to it.....

until Rooney sells, and Tomlin and Leadership is gone, we will be 2nd class.

Mahomes and Hurts would FAIL here.

They've shown they don't know what they are doing at QB, so I question their thinking.

I’ve made this same argument. My guess is they must have seen enough in those 6 games to tell them what they needed to know about him.

I think it was more to do with them promising RW the job, and conservative old Tomlin wanting the vet QB, remember how full of himself he was when RW played well intially (that's why I get very well compensated) etc it soon fell apart and Tomlin fell silent.

I'd have rather have just seen Fields play all year than bother trying the RW time machine experiment.

Oh I agree, they absolutely should have stuck with Fields last year. I was speaking of why they didnt make more of an effort to retain him this season.

I don't disagree with you. But they let Fields walk away and we're talking about Russ and Aaron now. Neither of those guys have an upside at this stage of their careers and need to be put out to pasture. They didn't make a legitimate run at Darnold. We're setting up for another 9-8 / 10-7 type season getting bounced in the WC game again with the safe washed up vet at QB. That's how a team who is satisfied with being mediocre operates. But hey, Tomlin is well on his way to 19 non losing seasons. Yippee.

rodgers will be the better QB to teach our new draft pick, plus gives them a chance to win. i think this is where it stands right now. if it's slough, he will need to be playing by next year. ewers maybe a little longer. howard maybe a couple. dart who knows. i think it's all about the draft pick and someone to learn from.

SB? You could put Joe Montana in his prime back there and this team wouldnt even get close with the sorry ass coaching staff. I'd be happy with winning a playoff game in this decade. This stale BS with Tomlin at the helm is beyond old. Rooney is a fool.

Agree, but you mean Kyler Murray. Steelers don't have enough cap room to absorb his contract with AZ.
