Seems clear the FO is banking on the idea that Wilson's decline and Smith's limitations with deeper throws had an effect on his production. I don't think it's a gross overpay, but there's definitely some projection baked in (including that they remedy their own QB situation).

If you hold his career numbers up against AJ Brown, who played in Smith's system, is now in a run-orientated offense, and runs a similar route tree, the numbers are pretty comparable.

    Brown ($33M APY): 90 gm, 695 targets, 446 rec, 7026 yards, 15.8 y/r, 49 TD, 64.2 catch %
    Metcalf ($30M APY): 97 gm, 726 targets, 438 rec, 6324 yards, 14.4 y/r, 48 TD, 60.3 catch %

When is enough? If A team lions wanted to sign him for close to the amount he signed
with Pats would you stay with lions?

I have no idea what the Steelers organization is doing?
At least we didnt jump on Darnold. Bad news is the door open for tree hugging Arod.
Here is an idea, bring Russ back and draft a Young qb for the future?!

We're honestly just going to sign Rodgers and hope for the best. It has a chance at being a massive dumpster fire...

I would be shocked if we don't take a QB in round 1 or 3 this year.

I'd rather have Wilson back, than Rodgers. Doesn't really matter who the QB is, IMHO.

Slay at CB is a nice pickup. I like that better than the Metcalf signing which is moot if Pickens skips town.

That question probably varies from person to person. Would you turn down 2 million bucks? Even if its over 3 or 4 years? What about 1 million? These contracts are big, but that money still spends the same whether no matter how much money you have in your account.

I do believe that if Russ gets a better offer, he will be gone too.
    Back to square one.

I agree with @Blast Furnace@Blast Furnace , why trade Pickens, but at this point anything the Steelers do right now wouldn’t surprise me.
I would keep Pickens this season to see how he plays for a future contract

I’ve seen a couple mock drafts of Steelers taking Sanders at 21.

Ya know what, bookmarked this post:

Danny Dimes will be the Steelers QB.

    Gut feeling.

Please build this team the right way. Quit getting has beens and retreads, draft young players and build for the future.
By the way we are not 1 or 2 players
Away from winning a Superbowl, let alone a playoff game.

Doesn’t matter who the Steelers sign, Steelers still have Mediocre Mike Tomlin running the ship. The Average is the Average.

Responding to myself… I honestly don’t think we have the coaches to properly develop anyone.

Steelers wasted their chance with Fields. They never mined deep enough to get a definitive answer.

Lol. I was just thinking the same.

Just not Rodgers. For me that would be the most infuriating signing since Michael Vick.

I also don't think they were ever that high on him. I personally think that's kind of crazy, but it seemed pretty clear to me.
