I chalk that up to trying to do to much as the Offense had limited weapons .. More weapons should yield better results.

I can't speak for what the great minds in our FO are thinking, but I personally wouldn't unless he came at a price of a 5th or lower. One of the reasons Fields was so cheap last year was because he was virtually a one-year rental. Stafford has two years left on his contract, but at 37 is a risk to hit the age-induced performance/injury wall at any time and is considerably more expensive ($3.2M for Fields vs. $23M-$27M for Stafford, depending on when he is dealt).

Meanwhile there should be a lot of good talent that still on the board in the 4th/5th of this draft, and in positions of need for the Steelers.

 

Waiting to see who gets Tagged. Looking at Tee Higgins and Sam Darnold?

If not tagged by March 4th they will be free and clear to sign with anyone.

 

Here are some Restricted Free agent i think the team should look at. They are mostly depth and I would not sign if the get 2nd second tender but anything less i would.
Undrafted Free agents Christian Ellis oR Nate Landman if Roberts leave
Kader Kohou nickelback compete with beanie
Jordan Mason compete Warren or #2 running back
Lastly Cade Mays he was a 6th round pick but if he does not get orginal round tender HE could replace Herbig and center/Guard depth and upgrade over Anderson

 

Just about 2 more weeks and we'll know who will be under center to get us our 9 wins. My money is on Fields.

Thats explaining his current contract, he wants a new deal with money value of those 'equal' (my word) in the position. There are currently 10 Qb's getting 50 plus million a year, have no idea if that's his starting point, but he is not going to be cheap. IDK if he has a no trade clause, but even if the Rams wanted to do him dirty and jet him away, he could refuse to report (like AB did when we tried to trade him to Buffalo). Now that's not going to happen as he has been free to talk to teams for the last 2 weeks, the Rams opened a door they may not like, if a team gives an offer they do not want to match they almost have to trade him. They hold the cards, but what if the pick(s) they want are not offered? They could force him to stay, but then they have created locker room cancer. Doubtful it comes to that, but hopefully the Steelers stay clear, we paid an aging QB once and it hurt the team, we do not need that mess again.

 

The issue i see is the possible big names in the positions we need are old, and/or coming off injury.

 

Didn't know if the contract rumors were valid, but no way would I restructure and guarantee him more.

 

The talk this morning on Dan Patrick was 2 teams, Raiders and Giants have offered a 2 year guarantee from 90 to 100 million, he is meeting with the Rams today to apparently see which direction they want to go. All that could just be the regular BS in the media, but looks like the man very well could be paid and the QB market gets slimmer.
