Hey I am very curious. How much do you think Fields will get in a contract?

Another person hearing the Steelers want to move forward with Fields. Not impressed with the top talent at QB in this class.

This is what I feel they would and should do. Draft a QB around round 3 or 4 and start the season with Fields, give him about 8 games and if it looks like the same old Fields then make the switch to the rookie if you feel he is ready.

@Brice@Brice said anything less than 3 years $33M would be an insult

And if Brice said it you can take it to the bank

Not necessarily. It was 3 years 19 million. There were heavy incentives in there to make signing with us more appealing, but that isn't the same as a 3 year 33 million dollar deal.

Either way, Fields will be worth more than 11 million AAV. I would expect a normal deal with him is probably in the 15 million a year range, while a 20 million AAV would be a home run for Fields.

I would say a 3 year, 50 million dollar deal seems to be a pretty safe deal for us. Justin would want some guarantees that he is the starter for 2025, but that dollar amount and term seems reasonable if I were him.

Woah, woah, woah. 3 years for $50 million is crazy for Fields. Yes, my 3 years for $33 million includes incentives, but there is no way Fields is ready to be paid over $15 million per year after proving nothing last year.

Sam Darnold signed last year for 1 year $10 million. If you are wanting to pay $20+ million per year chase Darnold around.

Sporttrac also says Russ has a 38.7 million contract value. I see some of what they do to get that value, but the market is set by more factors than that, namely how bad do you need/want him, who else is bidding, and how far/long does the player push it out before he loses.

A Lot of NFL teams are in bad need of a quarterback this year and the quarterback class isn't that great and it's definitely not deep. That's going to push the price that fields commands up. He might not be a great quarterback, but he is competent and he can be a starter......imo

Spotrac's system has its flaws, and they're going off of some crazy numbers to come up with Wilson's value. Cousins and Rodgers were signed to huge contracts after the production years they cite for contract amount - production Wilson fell well short of - and neither lived up to the value.

second tier in the draft? fields may be second or third tier in the nfl? 5 passing TD's, 5 rushing TD's. 1 interception, 6 fumbles. in 6 games. is that worth 16 mil. per year? not sold. i've seen a lot of years of justin. 4-2. heck mason went 3-1 without an OC.

    • ESPN's Seth Walder recently predicted that Sam Darnold will be Pittsburgh's starter in 2025. “And though I have some healthy skepticism of how Darnold will fare without Kevin O’Connell and Justin Jefferson, he’s arguably the best free agent quarterback available,” the analyst went on. “The Steelers land him because they have the most to offer [Darnold] — a potentially very good defense, winning history under Mike Tomlin and the lack of a top pick (making them less likely to take a first-round rookie).”
    • Adam Schefter - "Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, one of them will be back. One of them I expect to be back," Schefter said before being asked which one and ultimately choosing Wilson.
    • G Dulac - Wilson was brought here to help end the playoff victory drought, and it didn’t happen. Bringing in another veteran quarterback does not make sense. That’s why Fields, in all likelihood, will be given the job. He’s only 25, and he showed big development from his stay in Chicago.”"At this point, I believe Justin Fields will be re-signed," Dulac wrote. "But I don't think it'll be anything crazy."
    • Albert Breer - “I’d say an outside QB, then Justin Fields, then Russell Wilson,” Breer said. “Prior to Super Bowl week, and knowing things weren’t perfect between Wilson and the team, I thought Wilson loomed as a tread-water type of option for the Steelers, if other efforts failed in 2025. But seeing the pro-Wilson narrative on ’25 pushed through? I don’t think that’s going over great inside that building.

if Fields is going to be re-signed ---then do not bench him, or pull him, and don't look at any veteran.... draft someone for back-up,---- in late rounds we also have Skylar for back-up. If its Fields play it out all the way.Then--- if we suck--- we get a good draft pick to pick up possibly a great QB...it sounds like a dream, a fairy tale-- but we could do this.

I would say it's down to Fields or Darnold as the starter and then if they really believe in some one drafting a QB. Best case scenario would be to retain Fields, pick up Darnold and have them battle it out in camp and preseason. Probably not going to happen as they both believe they are starter capable. If I had to choose between the two I would have to give the edge to Darnold.

A Darnold, Fields, Thompson QB room in that order would not be a bad thing.
