So what happened..because I thought the rule for years was you couldn't push your own runner from behind him to get him over the line?

    When did that change?

Ban it, it is not a football play. It is a Rugby scrum.

It's not in the Steelers' playbook since they are usually in third or fourth and long situations.

I thought it was funny... And then I tried to actually follow up with the Average yards to go on 3rd and 4th down. Seemed simple enough, but for the life of me I couldn't find this stat anywhere. Every site kept wanting to show me conversion stats, not actual yards to go stats.

FYI. the Steelers had the 2nd worst 4th down conversion percentage in the NFL last year at 36%. The Eagles came in 3rd at 71%, Josh Allen and the Bills at 74%, and the king of the 4th down conversions was Washington at 79%

Should only be allowed when tomlin is standing in the exit doorway and only if he refuses to go.

    Wouldn't be the first time <Cough>Mel Blount<cough>

Which is why you know it'll never be banned. Every time they change a rule, it's ALWAYS to the benefit of offense. Give defenses a fighting chance??? Lunacy!

    Repeal the Mel Blount rule!

Well in 2023 they fell apart. Went 1-5 and lost to TB in Playoffs. Maybe they had injuries???

I found one article stating that the rule changed in 2005, but I thought it was more recent.

    Exactly!!!!!!
Teams want it banned because they don't have the personnel to stop it....
Truth is, if they tried that nonsense on a front like the one we had, it would've been stuffed in its tracks.....
The tush push goes nowhere against Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith and Brett Kiesel

Perhaps you don't watch the games and notice the numerous times per game the Steelers end up in unfavorable yardage situations. And you, of all people, making a statement about just wanting to post something is laughable. A high number of posts does not equal knowing stuff.

Not related, but when you mentioned stats on 4th down, Dan Patrick had a stat on Brady that was remarkable. The discussion was on banning or altering the 'push', and was it just jealous reaction because of the success. Patrick said over a very lengthy period Brady had a success rate of 90% on the QB sneak, IDK if that was for TD's, 4th down, or whatever situations, but it was quite a bit higher than Drew Brees who was second on the list.

Do i think it should be at least altered and more defined, but hearing that stat on Brady also makes me realize that success does bring jealous responses.

Oh the memories. Mine was an early version that made an ear-slitting horrible racket and players kept moving in circles rather than a straight line. Fun but frustrating. :thumbs up:

Leaping over the line is less than useless to stop this play. Every guy that does it just goes for a body surfing ride on the O linemen/QB. You actually have to do the opposite and try to get under them, but it's virtually impossible since they know the snap count. I've heard Jason Kelce say his role was to immediately get on all-fours and crawl forward.

I think it's not a rugby and not a football play and should be banned.

I'd also be ok with leaving it in, but you'd have to declare it like they have now with onsides kicks. So, not allowed to run any other play out of that formation once it's declared. As it stands now the d backs and linebackers can't fully commit to the scrum just in case they fake it. I think the defense would have a fairer chance then.

Or maybe this is a Cry to War to bring back the classic oversized Nose Tackle; where is the next Casey Hampton when you need him?

yes, nothing should stop Steelers from looking for big immoveable D-Linemen, but they wont.they like athletic guys who can be pushed around. Get a BIG giant sumo guy then try and push him. Not likely. No runs up the middle. just A wall to hit.
