I haven't seen that movie in almost 20 years. Shame. It's one of my favorites too. I wonder if that's out on Blu Ray yet.

Perhaps the only experience ever for me of a film surpassing the written source material. Don't get me wrong, the movie could never exist without those books. But Tolkien's writing style in LotR is SOOOOO dull and dry.

It turned me off from most fantasy books for most of my adult life. ASOIF is the exception, not the rule.

My favorite line in the song is probably "Don't talk to me about spoilers. Winter has been coming for 16 @$#@~# years!"

 

Yeah, that and too many singing creatures. As a teenager I read a good share of fantasy books. Some were quite bad, some were decent. ASOIF is definitely the exception IMO.

Nah. That's pointed square at the internet peeps who come into every discussion thread - even ones clearly marked as spoiler threads - screaming about book fans talking about the books.

Of course, this thread assumes some are new to the series and haven't read. So we try not to spoil things when possible.
