I think it would be a lot more entertaining if they let the fans scream and shout and cheer the players on in the competition. I have to believe it would even fire up most of the players. The way it was it was more quiet than a funeral service. Make it kind of like the PGA did with the Phoenix WM open. Turn it into a giant party.

The combine is good to watch on tv in the offseason but I would have no interest in attending it, the same as going to the draft.

Do you remember (or even know) when a guy created a draft 'profile' for Troy Montana on the original Steeler board? The guy did not exist, but people got excited about the prospect of this unknown and all the athletic qualities he had, lmao. What a prank.

You can eat a bowl of popcorn and list the could of/should of players all day long, it sucks, but then again if some some smart guy (remembering our dumb non-pick of Marino) had not intervened we could have a a T named Andrews instead of Big Ben, yea we are stupid at times. As many or more of speedy guys taken in the 1st round are busts, it's not about the speed alone.

2 of the fastest steeler in history were UDA, Dwight 'hands of' Stone could not catch well, but still gave the team 9 years and was pretty good on special teams, Fast Willie Parker ran a 75 yard TD in the SB and gave us a couple of decent years at RB. You can't teach speed, but skills like Jerry Rice make speed a secondary commodity.

And there are hundreds to counter that, so what. Yeah, I can name Brady as a round 6 QB, so why draft one till round 6, right?

Come on man, don't be THAT person.

Tomlin only cares about if he likes a college player. He'll take on a massive project, so long as they're pretty cool dudes. About the only reason I can see drafting Kenny Pickett in round 1 (when every board had him as a day 3 pick) and big-time project Broderick Thomas. The Eagles get the good Bulldogs, we get the projects that look great running the 40 or benching 30 reps.

Don't do that prank now, Tomlin would take him round 1. When they ask who is this, Tomlin would be "he's the greatest player I've ever not saw!"

I'm thinking sometime after 2010 SB, but yea it was a while back. The call for Troy continued in following drafts, lol.

    AMEN!

If a player has speed, agility, good hands and skill, sure take that 4.3 40 guy, but speed should never be the top characteristic, just a distinguisher between two otherwise similarly skilled and productive players. That's it.

I shared this before, but worth repeating. In the show Coach, Craig T nelson (coach) moved on to the pros and was excited for his first draft pick, he sent the name, then Jerry Jones approached the female owner and made a deal. When the commissioner came to the mike, he said the Cowboys get this pick for a trade of land, lmao. I'm waiting for that to happen with one of these owners.

Hard to imagine today. After a SB win Steve Young went to the stadium within a few days to clear out some personal stuff, he saw Jerry Rice working out...this is the heart and life of a true champion.

I’d spend less time at track n field events, thus the combine, and more time watching them actually play the game. We need football players not track n field masters.

That sounds right. I left around 2006. A group from the OSMB started a new site, draftboardinsider.com. I actually wrote a few articles for them. BigCurt(Curtis Popejoy) writes for Steelers Wire now, was like the main 'scout'.

Yes, if you want to go back to 2009 with Darius Heyward Bey or simply talk about the Raiders misses at speedy WRs then you could have an argument. But it's safe to say that in today's game, with today's rules and the emphasis on youth route running there aren't many misses anymore. No one is missing on Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson's anymore.
Steelers are lost when it comes to WR and specifically fast ones. In fact, when is the last time they hit on a legit WR. They got lucky with Ant Brown. After that it's a bunch of misses. Here's further proof Tomlin and company have no clue when it comes to drafting legit WRs and they refuse to draft early round WRs with speed. It's time for a change.

    2022-George Pickens (2nd round)

    2020-Chase Claypool (2nd round)

    2019-Diontae Johnson (3rd round)

    2018-James Washington (2nd round)

    2017-JuJu Smith-Schuster (2nd round)

    2016-Demarcus Ayers (7th round)

    2015-Sammie Coates (3rd round)

    2014-Martavis Bryant (4th round)

    2013-Markus Wheaton (3rd round)

I totally disagree. Steelers need fast offensive players. Look at the 2023 Miami Dolphins.
A bunch of fast track stars and that offense was scary. Noone looked at them as a bunch of "great players". Every defensive coordinator saw that speed and couldn't figure out how to stop it.
Imagine that speed on offense with the Steelers defensive unit.
