I'm worried because JF feels like a slightly better than .500 QB and we desperately need a losing season.

The fallacy that we have to suck for at least a year in order to draft a top level QB. I don't know why this is still a belief that is held after so many examples of guys who made it from further back in the draft (and for how many busts exist at the top of the draft).

Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love... and those are just guys that are still actively playing (not that they all are still elite players, but they all were top 10 QB's for a time in their careers). That's over 21% of the starting QB's in the league. It's just not true.

Missing on Hurts is the one that really stings. The Steelers needed an heir to Ben that year. Hurts was there in the second round, staring them right in the face. And they took Claypool…

Hurts has the best offensive line in the NFL, the best running back in the NFL, arguably the best pair of starting receivers, and a very good tight end. He also has a head coach who has a clue about offense. He would have had none of that with the Steelers. Hurts isn't a guy who is going to be good in every system. I don't think he would have been nearly as good in Pittsburgh.

I saw people posting that during the game but it's just hindsight, how many people were saying this during the draft?

Skylar Thompson is dreadful. Stick with him and the elusive losing season is guaranteed.

This is why McCord wouldn't be a good fit for the Steelers lack of mobility.

I definitely wanted him at that time. To be fair, he wasn’t a sure thing, which is why he was available in the second round. But the Steelers needed an heir apparent.

Having Ben still around likely didn’t help. No veteran QB likes their team spending draft capital on another QB. But Ben was into his late 30s by that point.

He threw two interceptions, one with his left tackle being shoved back into him. It's not like defenders were hanging all over McCord in that game. He made a few terrible decisions, then things snowballed and he fell apart against a middling defense. Not good.

And people are saying don't draft a QB this year, wait until 2026. Then 3-4 years from now those same people will be complaining we didn't draft a QB when so and so was still available and instead we drafted some knucklehead WR.

If you want to win the lottery, you're gonna have to buy a ticket. Swing for the fences dammit!

OK… I think the bigger takeaway there is the very last sentence.

The draft is almost crap at the QB position.. Russ can get a better deal so he is gone.. Fields is getting high praise for how he handled the benching so some Team will pay him more and be willing to run the type of O he needs..He is gone as well..

What are we really going to do at QB ?

Harris will be gone and we only have 1 WR with talent that may be Bat Shi crazy..

We will be able to afford either Russ or Fields. I have a preference towards Fields, but understand that they're both bridge options with different strengths/weaknesses. We have plenty of money for either, so if we want either, we can get them. It does appear that we are willing to discuss all options at QB, so we aren't simply deciding Russ or Fields. If we do end up going with either of them, we need to do it before FA opens to help us with our WR targets. Less uncertainty involved if we have the QB under contract (though, for some it won't matter as much who is throwing them the ball as long as the money is right).

We need to pay a WR2, and we should have no problem replacing Harris. His production and impact were quite low, so we shouldn't be hard pressed for a lateral option with a decent shot at getting someone better depending on where we draft one.

We have the money I agree , but we are known to be tight ..So what kind of value are those QB'S worth do you think ? I prefer Fields as well , I just think another Team with a better system suited for him will value him higher than the Steelers do..

No team is making a guy their starting quarterback just because he handled being benched well.

The Steelers aren't cheap about players. They are cheap about coaches.
