Will Troy F Be Ready

For training camp this year? Has anyone heard any updates on his knee issue? Would be like getting an additional #1 this season.

Man he looked super raw as a rookie...it is going to be a long road for him to get out on the field with the 1's.

 

Maybe, but displacing Moore at LT or Jones at RT is a low bar

 

Best hope he can be solid on the left side. I am reserved after seeing him on the right. But his natural position is the left side.

Just glad the finally the turnstile Dan "Less" Moore will be gone.

 

Hopefully switching Jones to the Left side after flip flopping him during training camp and then playing him on the Right the last two years hasn't messed him up. He was already raw in college on the left side. Now we are going to trot out Fautanu on the Right, who mainly played Left in college. We are definitely going to need to resign Fields for his mobility attributes while this young Oline gels and becomes what we hope they become.

 

Why can't we just go out and draft the specific position because all of this so-called versatility is not showing up in the pros. Get a player that has played that position his whole college career. Not one that just switched over for a season or two in college. They tend to fizzle out early

 

I wonder if Fields agents are telling him he has us by the balls? The free agents at QB are nothing to get excited about. A lot of them are guys trying to squeeze the last bit of money they'll make in the NFL. I'd do the same in their position.

IMO Wilson a better QB then Fields. Neither are going to make us a contender. I'm hoping it's Fields. I'll freaked if both get better offers.

 

Getting reps anywhere can only help his development

 

Im not so sure about that. Theoretically, you would think reps could only help ones development but in Jones's case he kinda regressed. They need to slot him into a position (ie. LT) and keep him there so he is honing his skills on that specific side. Like Dan Moore said "playing the right side for him is like trying to wipe your ass with the opposite hand". The kick slide and hand punch is totally different depending on which side you are on. With that said, the OL is going to gel quicker when they know what to expect from the man beside them aswell so they can build that comfort and communication level.

 

and jones has been on the right side for two years. he also practiced there in college daily he said, even though he mainly played left side in college during the season. it's not new to him. maybe this is as good as jones will be. it took him years to start at bama. instead of making two guys change sides, leave jones on the right and put TF at his natural position on the left. jones has been learning the steps from the right for two years, leave him alone.

 

It is imperative that this young man comes out swinging after the injury,
Now if we could get a competent OL coach to get him and others a chance to succeed.

 

Not sure that's an accurate way to put that. Jones red-shirted his freshman year, then overtook Jamaree Salyer during his sophomore year while Georgia was on its national title run, and remained the starter through his junior year.

You may be right on him, but I'd still like to see him slotted at LT before we make that determination. While it may not have taken years for him to take over the starting role, the simple fact of the matter is he only started 19 games there in college. So he was considered physically gifted, but technically raw.

He started the last 4 games over an injured salyer.

 

And? You have a habit of only addressing part of a counter-argument. All scouting reports on Jones addressed the fact that while he showed a lot of good traits and upside coming out, he had only started 19 games at LT.

 

And saying he overtook Saylor during the championship run was the truth? Sayler got injured and Jones got to start the last 4 games of his second of 3 years.

 

Ha. I wasn't trying to be misleading - I knew Saylor had an ankle injury that year, but didn't look up to see if he was deemed healthy by the end of the season or if Georgia decided to keep with Jones.

The larger point is he was well-spoken of before and after he cracked the starting lineup in 2021. He was at Georgia for three years, one as a redshirt and three-quarters of one as playing every game but only starting at LT for four games. His junior year was 15 starts at LT. Saying 'he didn't he 'didn't start for years' is less accurate than what I posted.

He came out as physically gifted, but raw. Let's hope he develops into physically gifted and a plus OT.
