Should the Steelers draft a young qb like Jaxson Dart?

I don't blame Russell Wilson for the 5-game skid. I blame Tomlin for the sub par condition of the O-line, D-line and secondary and it's lack of quality starters and depth.

We could have won a playoff game with Wilson at QB if he had a "real" OL and if the defense wouldn't give up 200+ yards in rushing.

Howard won’t be there that late. He just won a national championship and looked very good doing it. He’s 6’4” and 235 lbs. That is the size you look to for in your QB. His last 2 seasons he threw for 59TD’s and 20 INT’s. The Steelers would be foolish to pass on him if he’s available in round 2.

Moxey is the word. I do not have enough knowledge to pick the correct shoe laces, but at that level you should have scouts and draft room depth to help make a determined decision. We did not go after Ben, he fell and it still took a greater voice to make Cowher pick him. Mahomes was rising up the boards, a couple of team (NO in particular) was salivating, Reid had moxie and moved to get his guy. I do not hear or read of any particular guy this year that would necessarily make a GM make that move, but out history of 'just picking the best one available" has not been too productive.

I kinda do. Russ got figured out IMO. Teams started sitting on the deep ball and forcing him to throw underneath and to the middle of the field and he couldn't do it. The OL is still a work in progress (and was quite injured during the year), but I don't think they were the reason Russ struggled. Lots of young players there, and they should improve over time. As for the DL and secondary... The defense definitely sold in the postseason with a bad game plan and even worse execution. We got run on pretty badly. However, we had a top 5 defense against the run and even in our 5 game skid, the Ravens were the only team to run on us with any real success (we got ripped both Ravens games, but were able to hold Cincy, KC, and Philly in check).

Russ threw for 171 yards a game the final 5 games of the regular season, 6 TD's, 5 turnovers (2 Picks, 3 fumbles). He struggled mightily. On the surface his 270 yard, 2 TD, 0 Turnover game in the postseason looks like a good game... but he had like 50 yards at halftime and really only started to rack up the yards in the second half when the game was already decided. He was a huge part of the reason why we were so far behind, and we were entirely shut out in the first half. Can't have that. It's not the defenses fault (or really the OL's fault) that he couldn't find a way to succeed. We averaged 14.2 PPG in our 5 game skid. No defense in the league is going to be good enough to hold some of the NFL's best teams (and offenses) below 14 points all that often. There is certainly a lot of blame to go around, but I think deflecting it from Russell is wrong. He was one of the main drivers of our failures to end the season.

Apparently being paid to play for another team plus playing like ass the last 6 games here isn’t enough to convince fans Wilson is washed.

Two starters on the OL missed the season injured, Wilson deserves blame for holding the ball too long and turning the over more during the 5 game skid. Wilson didn't score more than 17 points during the 5 game losing streak.

Draft a QB 3 or lower as a placeholder potential backup. Sign Fields to a two year deal. Draft talent at WR, RB, CB, and DE. Get some free agent help also.

    Basically give Fields a shot.

They have youth talent at oline if they aren't getting better than look at replacing their coach

I hope the Steelers draft 7 QB's and throw them against a wall and see who sticks and has a chance to be a franchise. AFC has more then 1 or 2 and we are going nowhere with aging QB's. Free agent market is crap for a QB. Winning 1 Playoff game would not matter much to me. I want to be in the mix like Bens early years.

#1 we need a modern HC. #2 got to get lucky with a QB. This is not happening anytime soon so next few seasons should be sh!t.

Sport teams a bit of a downturn in the Burgh:(

Read an article today that reminded me one similar to the 2023 draft on QB’s. People don’t feel there are any franchise QB’s in this class.

To my untrained eye this class seems to be better but it’s certainly not what you would call a good QB class. There are some I have my eyes on but maybe the team is better off waiting for the 26’ class and just continue building the other positions of need and then hopefully find their guy in 26’.

Taking another Kenny Pickett would set this team back years. The only good thing about that dumb pick is Khan and Weidl weren’t part of it so maybe the next QB taken can actually play.

I wouldn't consider drafting a quarterback in the second round as solidifying him as the franchise QB. There are numerous examples of teams selecting a quarterback even higher in the following draft if the team falters and has an opportunity to pick a better prospect.

I wouldn't have a problem with them taking a Pickett type as long as it's not in the first two rounds, maybe Will Howard in the 3rd or 4th rd.

As I have stated previously, they will not get Howard in the 3rd. He will be long gone.

Compared to the 2023 draft or the 2022 draft where we got Pickett? I think it’s better than the 2022 draft. The 2023 draft had QBs at picks 1, 2 and 4.

Just based on watching games on live TV there are at least 4 QBs that I like better than I liked any QBs in the 2022 draft.

Right, my bad. 2022 draft. The Pickett draft class. Not one player made it, has to be among the worst QB class ever.

Edit: Did Purdy come from that class?

Bottom line is: the Pittsburgh Steelers are losing the war in the trenches and have been for several seasons now. This should not be happening.

i think this class has quite a few purdy's in it. not going to wow you but could be quite solid with a good team around them. mahomes no, purdy yes type guys. that ain't bad if they keep growing. you could end up with a very solid qb down the line. you have to start the process though.

This thread probably should be in the Bill Nunn Draft Room, but so be it. I’ve been sifting through some YouTube videos on QB prospects. This clip of some of Dart’s plays vs Georgia shows how he can perform in rhythm in a well-designed passing scheme. Look! There is a middle part of the field beyond 10 yards! Who knew. I have a lot more to watch to know how much I like him, but he is intriguing.

What I like about Dart is his toughness. He playe hurt last season. I bolded well-designed passing scheme, because I doubt if that will be in the Steelers playbook. I hope Tomlin and Smith prove me wrong. Dart understands passing concepts better than Fields. If the Steelers sign Fields, I doubt they draft Dart.

The early projection was late day 2 or early day 3 pick. After his year and play off run his projection went up. The combine and pro day may hype him more, but this league is QB hungry, I have little confidence that this team knows how to properly scout a QB prospect and develop, have no idea if Howard is going to be a good pro and he had a good year surrounded future NFL talent. He has flaws like most guys and one point often made is at 24 has he reached his ceiling. The decision to take him in any top round (even late 1st) could be possibly valid, and do it if you have done the background and he is your guy, but again I wonder if this team has the people in place to make it work.

The OL takes time to gel especially with first or second year players.

Purdy was the last pick in that draft.
