Well, this is depressing. From the linked clip, just ahead of Pryor saying that (Blast, don the earmuffs around 11:50):

I don't care he should've been in the game for that play.

There is plenty of blame with the scheme but Watt disappeared after the Philly game. Injured again.

He is going to get a monster contract from Art II. He is still our top Defensive player.

And where oh where was Highsmith?

He is just going to keep throwing **** at the wall until some of it sticks, then he will deny that he ever said or wrote any of the other predictions.

The only way Darnold becomes available is if the Vikings are no longer an option for him.

List of reasons why Watt did so little in the final three games:
    • Injured thumb, which is key for a player who uses his hands a lot as a pass rusher
    • Sprained ankle
    • Predictable defensive scheme that makes it way too easy for opposing pass protectors
    • Brain-dead defensive scheme for the playoff game
    • At least one strip sack wiped out by a penalty

I'm sure you don't. And I would've had him in there, too. Point is the line's inconsistency hasn't been good for either back.

Ha! No, that doesn’t surprise me. I know the odds of Fields growing into a franchise QB is very slim. That was a great segment though, never saw that show. Whos the Ben guy? He should have talked more. I think all of them monitor this board, we’ve all been discussing those very things.

And I agree with the very last part, if they are going to play Fields than let him play. Take off training wheels and just live with the results. He either sinks or swims. If he sinks then you’ll be in a better position to draft a QB.

The part I disagree with most is the hosts idea of trading up for Ward :no2:

ward quit on his team. he88 no. also that winning record thing is mikey's last hope of being somebody in the coaching world. he won't let fields ruin that. of course he wants his own lamar jackson to play with. there is a fine line there.

This is pretty spot on. The hosts had great points, especially the part about Tomlin getting credit for putting our fires he caused in the first place.

I especially love the points about the defense suffering due to the terrible offense and issue at QB. Our defense wears out as the season goes on and the scheme is vanilla.

Next year is not going to be 9-8 if the wheels fall off that defense, more like 7-10.

I don't like how the Steelers run their short yardage situations, they don't use a FB or use the tush push. It seems most of the time their RB doesn't have a lead blocker.

The same predictable scheme that Watt was able to lead the league in sacks three times, and helped him win DPOY . Watt was also resistant to moving around he wanted to stay in his wide nine stance and be unproductive .

I don't know where you got these stats.... but man, that's awful. Especially for a back his size.

I doubt Tomlin makes any decisions based around keeping his above .500 streak alive but he was able to do it with Pickett he can do it with Fields.

He has very little options at this point.

I made that very point recently about the defense, they start out a house of fire and are as shell of themselves by the end of the year. Tomlins idea on how to win games is a terrible formula.

Wilson is terrible on sneaks. He had one that the opposing defense left a massive hole over the center and left guard and he still somehow came up short.

Fields should be great on sneaks, but they can't trust him to get the snap cleanly. The guy is four years into his NFL career and he still struggles to take a snap from center. How the hell does he manage that?

Tomlin doesn't want to take those training wheels off. Wilson is the only quarterback he has done that with since Roethlisberger. Refusing to do that is how he screwed up Pickett and it was a problem with Fields, too.

You make fun of Pickett, but at least he can handle a snap from under center cleanly and can make throws that require touch on them. Somehow, Fields made it through college and four years in the NFL without learning to do either of those things and it severely limits the offense when he is in there.

Totally. Tomlin's defensive management formula for the playoffs pretty much entails flower, sugar, baking powder, salt, eggs, chocolate and some Betty Crocker smothered on top.

    upload_2025-1-31_12-26-20.jpeg

It was sickening watching Lamar and Henry getting fat in that Wild Card Game. It should have been rebranded as the Mike Tomlin Cooking Show.

The 4th & 1 call against the Bengals game was silly. They put Warren in instead of Harris, then kept Wilson instead of Fields.

Seemed like another instance of Tomlin outsmarting himself.

Ha. I was wondering where you were going with the baking reference at first.

BTW, I like 'In the Kitchen with Mike' better.

Ha! I can only imagine an episode of 'In the Kitchen with Mike':

"The Pillsbury standard is the standard. We're going to do things the Pillsbury way."

    "We're still squirreling those nuts."

"We don't live in our fears, we lick the spoon and bowl."

"There's no substitute for butter. You can talk about all kinds of stuff, but at the end of the day, it's about the churn."

I thought Arthur Smith called the plays, I'm sure it's his call for who goes into the game .

Fair enough. I'm just using some guilt by association from past choices Tomlin did admit were his (the fake FG attempt against the Browns that left Boswell concussed, e.g.).

That said, it was Tomlin's decision to go for it on 4th down at his own 37. That's sketchy to begin with. But if I then saw Smith sending out Wilson and Warren instead of Fields and Harris I would've been in his ear on the headset pretty quick.

You left out, "I could tell you what goes in the hot dog, but then you probably wouldn't eat it."

He debuted that one just this year, I believe.
