The Vikings offered him more money than the Dolphins! For those of you that thought it was money that motivated Wallace, think again. It's always been the WEATHER down south that Wallace yearned for. According to his dad, he was tired of that cold, snowy weather in western PA. Poor baby.

In all seriousness, I CANNOT believe that the Vikes were offering more than the Fins. No wonder Minnesota has never won a SB and Miami hasn't won one since the early 70s. The fact that both teams were willing to mortgage their futures to break the bank for one of the most one dimensional players in NFL history is unbelievable.

Hmmmm... The Dolphins said the Vikings were willing to go to $13mm a year. Is that legit? Was there an offer on the table and he turned it down?

$13mm is what the Dolphins ended up paying him. 5yrs / $65mm. SMH.

So do you think that he would've stayed with us if we had offered him the same contract as the fins or he would've left for the weather? That would've been interesting because obviously if he really wants to win a Super Bowl he is a bonafide nut for going to Miami. Maybe he does want a ring and thought he was signing with the Heat. LOL.

Sounds like Mikey was a little too cold in the Burgh, BFT. He had his mind on South Beach.

Maybe that's why he had a hard time hanging onto the ball. His hands were cold! :hmmm:

Yeah and I guess now his excuse will be that they are so sweaty from the heat. LOL!

I dislike Wallace even more after it became apparent to me that he played this season not to get hurt instead of going all out for a big contract. The sob knew someone would pay him anyway.

Don't know if there was ever an official offer but I had posted that Boomer and Carton said that he was going to the Vikings and that they were offering more then Miami. Guess they didn't figure he'd pick the lesser offer.

There is more than 1 way to look at a contract offer. The total dollars offered is less important than the guaranteed money in the contract and how that contract is structured. For instance...

    5 years, 150 total, 25 million guaranteed

    5 years, 140 total, 40 million guaranteed

That guaranteed money can be structured in lots of ways. Maybe it all is in the initial signing bonus. Maybe it all sits in the last 3 years of the contract. Who knows? The reality is, you don't get caught up with the $$$ figures, you look at signing bonus and guaranteed numbers.

This right here. The article offers no details of Minnesotas offer. So maybe it was for more total dollars, but less guaranteed dollars.

And as someone else mentioned above, Florida has no personal income tax. Minnesota has a progressive tax system with the highest rate at nearly 8%. Considering that over 99% of Wallace's income would be in this bracket, thats huge. Given equal monies, Minnesota is at an 8% disadvantage. In other words, their contract offer would have to be better by almost 10% to make up for the tax difference.

Given equal guaranteed money and contract length, if Miami gave him $60M, then Minnesota would have to offer him $64.8M just to make up for the difference in state tax.

To assume that this isn't about money simply because Minnesota offered him more without knowing the details, is wrong.

Now wait a minute, Da Stellars, aren't you assuming too much here? Wallace could be the gay player that's getting ready to come out of the closet so it could be guys in speedos that attracted him to South Beach.

Well if he wanted to star on Swamp People he would have to have went to the Saints because they shoot that show in Louisiana. But it would be awesome to hear him yelling "Chootem!!!"

I'm sorry in a preemptive move I am shutting down this thread before the self appointed message board police can come in and tell you this is no longer Steeler related. If you could all please leave your screen name and where you can be reached SteelerGlen will get back to you to mock you for still talking about Wallace and gpguy will leave comments where he shakes his head at you via shorthand or emoticon for causing him to have to scroll down the page in order to find relevant threads.

Thank you for using the automated "Not Steelers related" help line we care about your message board experience.:p:p
