It’s probably great to play with minimal accountability

LOL very adamant and decisive when a suggestion would need more money. money might be tight for the Rooney's.

Thankfully Austin is coming back. Don't want to lose that genius.

I hope he does. One of the few bright spots I can look to right now.

I am highly annoyed about Rooney admitting the last 5 games were disappointing. Hello? What about the last 7 years and the last 5 PLAYOFF beat-downs? It's like only now is Rooney a little disappointed. WTF?

I wished a reporter had said, what about the last 5 or 6 playoff appearances and the very poor showings? At what point does that become too much of a factor to continue down this "path of consistency"? He wants to keep Tomlin around because he notes the league-wide coaching turnover isn't a good thing. Ugh. There is no reason for hope at this point.

I'd say my bear-minimum is OL Meyer being shown the door. Pay up for a GOOD OL coach, not a Carolina Panther cast-off.

I am with ya. I will probably start with a dim flicker of optimism, which will be artificially stoked when they squeak by a good team from this year that actually turns out to stink. I am confident I'll be rooting to bust that non-losing season glass floor so Rooney can, mercifully, entertain Tomlin trade to some othe gullible GM. AT least have Rooney second-guessing any more extensions for such a mediocre HC.

It's complacency and what does it matter if the players still love to play for him. If not succeeding at the highest level and being held accountable for repeatedly failing doesn't happen then that is a pretty good EASY boss. I can coast and nothing happens, ok awesome.

When did we get a good coach? I must have missed it.

If a local reporter would have asked Art 2 a tough question they would have been called into the office the next morning and handed their walking papers. The local media have to ask softball questions to Rooney or Tomlin to keep their jobs.

    What difference will it make?

We could have prime Dom Capers, Dick LeBeau, Buddy Ryan, etc. It won't matter when the greatest non-losing HC in history really controls everything. The coordinator is only there to take the heat if they fail.

A lot can happen in the off-season. And we've all seen teams who were sure contenders fall off due to injuries or other circumstances. So long range forecasting is dicey at best.

But looking at our opponents list for next year? I'm struggling to find even 5 wins based on how we finished the season.

This is disappointing but not surprising. Mediocrity has become so embedded in the culture of the steelers franchise that I'm convinced it's going to take an ownership takeover to change it. We all know that isn't happening just like we know Tomlin will continue to be here for the foreseeable future. Mediocrity is the standard.

I'll continue to post here because I feel connected with this dysfunctional family - even with the people I mess with. Yes, even you Glenn. But my interest in the team is at an all time low. Maybe that will change after the draft and off-season but right now, I could care less about watching the same old tired script play out and Tomlin never being held accountable. Don't take this like an SDOT boycott threat or come at me with the not-a-true-fan garbage. I'm just being real and don't need the aggravation.

Agree 1000%. Not having a credible QB, lack of offensive coaching acumen, lack of a running game, and defense with outdated schemes has the makings of 2025 trainwreck.

Dallas had multiple 12-5 seasons, but like us, were buttercream soft in the playoffs and never fixed their underlying issues (their GM is a fraud). They derailed hard this season and likely aren't recovering anytime soon.

The wheels on this team went wobbly the last five games, we aren't making any changes, and I don't see Conductor Tomlin keeping this train on the tracks. First losing season incoming.

I think thats pretty much the vibe of a lot of Steelers fans right now Knox. Tomlin is the one constant and Rooney won’t change that. It’s frustrating for fans who have no control over the team and can only watch things unfold.

18 years is a long freaking time. It’s one thing if you are like the Bills knocking on the door and repeatedly falling short but we never even reach the doorstep to knock on the damn door.

So you clearly don't understand disclaimers. "A lot can happen in the off-season."

My statement is based on "how they finished the season." :puking2:

That impression will doubtlessly change by late summer... for better or worse. :tequila::guiness:

Edit: Last year, my initial thoughts were rosier because I felt we were moving in a positive direction. This year? Not so much.

I am disappointed by the little Rooney had to offer, but have grown to expect that type of drivel. This franchise is simply a money maker for him, the fans care far more about the team. I feel sorry for the younger fans, I am old enough to have lived in the glory years for the Steelers, back when players wanted to play, coaches wanted to coach, the teams wanted to win and gave their all. The players didn't find themselves on IR every time they got a splinter or a paper cut. Those were the days. Now Rooney seems to think we should just accept mediocrity. I guess I'm just losing hope that things might turn around.

    LMAO. Whatever.

Look at the current state of our team, and the current state of the teams on our schedule. If the new season started tomorrow, would you bet money on a winning season? Most years, I would (easy money). If the season started tomorrow? Take the under - bet the farm.

Thankfully, the season does NOT start tomorrow. There's hope.

Art sounded like a guy who doesn't give AF through the entire "interview ".

For various reasons he's content with the state of this stale, inbread, myopic franchise. As long as the $$ comes in he's good

Pathetic. I'm in my mid 50s, remember the late 70s SBs, the horrendous 80s, and the rebirth w Cowher

I will always be a Steelers fan, but not wasting my Sundays watching this rudderless crap

Can't wait until Dan takes over n hope he opens all the org windows n ushers Steelers into the modern NFL
    Hopefully......
