For me personally, hiring the likes of Baalke should have never happened. For that matter, Shahid Khan hiring him as the Director of Player Personnel in 2020 was no more than a Trojan Horse for Baalke to climb back up into the NFL Ranks to become GM again; only to destroy another Franchises Roster in the process. Never mind that, Baalke has single handedly destroyed the possible potential of a generational QB in Trevor Lawrence via his horrific hiring of Urban Meyer circa 2021.

Even worse?! The Jaguars missed out on the likes of Ben Johnson and Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen; the former of the two more damning. Liam initially wanted the job but only wanted it if Baalke were to be relieved of his duties. Shahid clearly didn't see it this way; prompting Coen to head back to Tampa Bay. Now, Shahid Khan is in an unenviable position; he has a young QB who has shown he still possesses Franchise QB traits but has created a job opening in which few would want to actively seek out.

    Thoughts?!

They're going to have to scrape from the bottom of the barrel to find a HC now. The Cowboys are in the same spot. They were reduced to hiring Brian Schottenheimer as their new HC.

A lot can happen in a day, lol. Coen took the job after they agreed to fire Baalke, but after Cohen agreed to a new contract being the highest paid OC in the league is he did not do a 2nd interview with the Jags. He secretly flew to Jax, took their deal and did not bother telling the Bucs. I can't blame a guy for taking what apparently is 3x or more the money AND basically hand picking his 'boss', but if you live and work with those business practices you wonder if he can really handle the pressures of not only being HC, but still organizing and calling the O, developing talent, etc. The guy may be great, but you go from limited power in a good org, to what may be unlimited in a crappy org. and the stink may come back on you very fast. I thought the Jags were actually going to make a push, and maybe he is the right guy to get them there, but big difference being OC to HC and even more.

Kinda interesting especially considering Leftwich (I think leaving Tampa at the time) was rumored to be getting the HC job in Jacksonville during the last cycle.

    * 1/12 Jags owner says GM Baalke would be fired if a new HC wants him out …while Baalke was on the zoom (!!!)
    * 1/15 Coen interviews on zoom
    * 1/20 Coen interviews in person
    * 1/22 (am) Coen agrees to extension with the Bucs as the highest paid OC ever
    * 1/22 (am) Jaguars owner goes on tilt
    * 1/22 (pm) Jaguars fire GM Baalke
    * 1/23 (am) Coen flies to Jaguars HQ
    * 1/23 (am) Bucs repeatedly go straight to Coen’s voicemail and they didn’t get a signature on his agreed to contract
    * 1/23 (pm) Coen tells Bucs HC Todd Bowles he’s at the doctors with his kid and mentions he’s speaking with the Jaguars
    * 1/23 (pm) Coen agrees to be Jaguars HC

wow...I heard most of this on Dan Patrick and he interviewed the bucs radio guy who confirmed the Bucs management was really pissed, lol. I do not blame Coen on the one hand, but these type of moves can really sting when trying to deal with teams. The guy might do well, but damn the whole Jags ownership sounds as looney as Dan Snyder, lol.

    So......

It finally took Shad to realize what a terrible hire Baalke was after skipping over on the likes of Nick Sirianni (someone Baalke didn't even bother to look into) or even Robert Saleh; a coach who ended up being scapegoated by an even worse owner?!

    Interesting.
