Russ said he is in contract talks with the team. Looks like another depressing year ahead of us again..

Saunders flat out lied to Pickens face in an interview so take this report for what it’s worth.

If Wilson wants to come back and sit on the bench behind Fields, sure. He had his chance, now it’s Fields turn.

It would be depressing with Fields too.
I just hope they don't give Russ any more than like 22-23 million a season.
Just take some lumps this season and draft a QB in 26.

I wouldn't screw around too much if I were them. If they really want Wilson then just commit to him, but I wouldn't try to keep both guys on the line and end up pissing them both off.

EDIT: Apparently Wilson said, on McAfee, that he wants to retire here. So, if he's highly motivated to work something out, I'd think he's back. Just the feeling I get from that.

If they give him anything it should be the vet minimum. He’s been in the league for 12 years and still struggles with zone defense. Hard pass

This pretty much sums up why we won’t be good until we get new coaches in here. Why would they bring him back when he doesn’t get along with the OC? It was pretty clear Smith really liked Fields. We could have signed Fields and drafted Jaylen Milroe. Thats what I would have done. I would have tried to find a way to get someone from the Chargers or Ravens staff to be our run game coordinator. They know how to coach up the blocking and design the RPO’s.

Wilson should be happy to play the role Charlie Batch did with the Steelers - long in the tooth but still serviceable in a pinch. Of course who he plays second fiddle to is the $60 million question.

Get the guy some WR's though. It was pathetic what Khan trotted out there this season.

I'm all for bringing Wilson back. Steelers are on the road to nowhere with Popcorn. None of the alternative vet QBs would do any better than Wilson. Draft a QB somewhere in rounds 4-7 this year. Looks like Fields will walk and get offers from other teams. Steelers will roll with Wilson, Allen and draft pick.

Draft franchise QB in round 1 in '26.

I say draft a QB every year... doesn't matter what round.... until we find the heir to Roethlisberger.

Watching the playoffs one can see how important the run game is, yes? But, a deeper dive into it reveals that it’s the O line that’s allowing for these QB/RB combos.

Get this Oline fixed and play em in their natural positions, in other words keep MTs hands out of it! It’s criminal the lines they’ve put in front of two HOF QBs. Give Russ a solid line and targets.

If you are talking about a late round pick, why not send a late round pick to Tennessee for Wil Levis. I would love to see what Arthur Smith could do with Levis.

In 2023 when we had Kenny Pickett out there against Will Levis, I couldn't help but fall in love with the way the ball just seemed to jump out of Levis's hand, compared to the way Kenny was throwing the ball. I thought that is an NFL ARM in Levis, and that is a college ARM in Pickett.

I wonder if Arty could have a backdoor connection in Tenn to get a deal in place?

I suspect they are having equal and opposite discussions with Fields

    - Newton’s third law

Nothing will be promised to either other than a chance to compete

    THIS!

I don't see them drafting a QB high this year cause they're going to be in win now mode with Russ, BUT you do have to rebuild the QB room and maybe catch lighting in a bottle.

There's a few QB's I'd be happy to see make it to 4th or later.

Not only that, he is going to need just as much time, if not more, to develop than Fields. For that matter, Fields starting should have never happened in Chicago anyways. Milroe being drafted in Round 1 will tell me that the NFL has learned nothing of the Anthony Richardson Experience; banking too much on traits and a simplistic scheme over organic development through the reinstitution of the basics, fundamentals and principles of the position.

Milroe's physical skill set is tremendous; easily top five in all of football. However, playing the QB position is all about the mental aspect of it. Never mind that, it is the core aspects of the QB Position that Milroe desperately needs first before all else.

Pittsburgh is already likely going to roll the dice with Fields for 2025. Rolling the dice on Justin Fields in Jalen Milroe shouldn't be the focus of the Steelers for 2025. If they do wanna take a chance on a QB, I'd rather roll with Jaxson Dart or Will Howard.

Yeah, I want no part of Milroe. Unless he falls waaay down the draft. I'd draft him as a rb before a QB.

Bringing Wilson back essentially signals this team is not only not competing for a Playoff Title but also possibly not competing period. Did anyone see what Russell Wilson looked like at the end of the season?! I know I did; a player way past his prime and no longer of starting caliber in the NFL.

Roll the dice with Fields. See what happens after. One massive aspect being ignored here; it is either going to be the most shocking development of 2025 or the most gut wrenching outcome of 2025. Either Justin Fields finally, somehow, someway, unlocks all that talent that made him a Top 10 selection in 2021 to not only get the Steelers in the Playoffs but also win a Playoff Game or the Steelers will be looking at a Top 10 draft pick at worst in 2026.

    There is no in between.

Who is this 2026 phenom we are drafting at pick 20? While our defense ages another year or two. Fields and Russ stink. The o-lines needs fixed. The D-line needs fixed. The coaches need fixed. RB needs reloaded. CB needs upgraded. WR needs upgraded. The first signing at qb didn't impress, so I don't expect the next signings will be much better. Same guy coaching them so........ :smiley1::cool:

I agree. Bit fixing this OL requires us to move on from Pat Meyer. They've used 3 high end draft picks and signed FA vets to this line and still is awful. At the very least they need a run game coordinator to fix this line if Meyer isn't going anywhere.

Agree. Bringing back Wilson signals to me that the ceiling will be 9 wins. Great guy, but his toxic positivity will be the downfall.

Maybe I’m nit picking here but was the word contract used by Wilson when he mentioned talks

Reason I ask is because I just saw a local interview with Russell where he said “he” has talked to Tomlin and Kahn about the future

One he did not use the word “ contract”

Two he said he “talked” that does not necessarily infer his agent “talked”

Was this just the end of year talks they have all with players
