Fields will be cheaper, but likely not as good. Take a look at their passing numbers this season. I know Darnold had better receivers, but even that doesn't account for the huge difference between his production and that of Fields.

 

LOL. We have heard it from too many players for me to believe that. I have no doubt that the Steelers promised Wilson he would be the starter. I think he has given players one expectation going into a season, then refused to stick to that when those players faltered.

 

Fair, you said the same upside, but even that is laughable. Rudolph and Allen have no upside. They are what they are. Even with the ugly finish, Darnold took a big step forward this year. You are talking about the difference between a starter who threw for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns, a backup, and a third stringer.

I will ask again. Which were those six bad games this year for Darnold? He had a mid-season stinker in a win over the Jags and the two ugly ones at the end. What other game was bad?

Fields is not worth 41.5 a year, not for a QB that can't throw a deep ball accurately and read defenses. He wasn't good enough passer to keep a washed Russel Wilson from taking the job back.

The Cowboys way overpaid mediocre Prescott at 60 million per year, and Fields isn't near good as him. That contract is going to be an albatross on them.

41.5 for two years, then that is okay, that makes him an affordable bridge to the QB drafted in 2026.

This team cannot overpay for a mediocre to bad QB's with so many holes in the trenches, receiving corps, and secondary. Might as well pick up a cheap one in free agency or take a gamble on a late round prospect.

Trade Watt and Pickens. Stock up as many picks as can. Trade or fire Tomlin. Get the cheapest QB you can find for 2025. Try get a franchise QB in 2026.

 

Nobody is guaranteed a roster spot. Much less a starter role. And they all know it. You have to earn it even if somebody 'promises'. Any player that gets upset because he was 'promised' a position and then it didn't just happen because it was 'promised', is a pampered fool. Those players do not last in the NFL.

agree CJ, i would rather go to the draft in 26 and suffer 25 under Wilson or Fields and our fearless leader coach. We have the makings of a real good offensive line, and a couple good TE’s, i think. But wr and RB, we need to fix.

 

I'm in on Fields. Sign him to a 2 year deal. Give the guy a shot. I don't see a bunch of other options right now anyways.

Then again if all they are to run with him are obvious run or option plays then just release him and save me the frustration.

 

Wilson is a bit of a pampered fool, but he has lasted a long time in the NFL. I have no doubt he was promised the starting job.

 

Hell no to Sam Darnold. The Steelers need to draft a couple of young QBs in the middle rounds (rds. 4-5).

 

In Wilson's case specifically, it wouldn't matter if promises were made or not. Wilson is a better NFL QB than Fields, Allen, or even KFP. Wilson would win any QB completion in that room.
Wilson is not the future though. I'm thinking Field is. At least for the immediate future plans. I think he will get an offer to return to the Steelers. That offer will contain certain 'promises'.

 

Darnold stunk it worse than Mason previous years to 2024 and he had a lot of time to prove himself. Mason had had just 17 starts with inferior cast and has a winning record as a starter. Darnold five bad games this year were against , Jax, NYJ, Chicago, Detroit and LA. He seemed to have regressed in last two. I am sold less on Darnold then I was on Cousins. You can’t discount 6 years of bad play. He still has a losing record as a starter. I have only watched him in two games this year and one against the Steelers in 2019 and he was terrible in all three. Not sold.

I see you changed your tune from six games to five. No, he didn't have a bad game against the Bears. He had one great one and one that was just okay.

Darnold was a better prospect to start with and he has earned quite a few more starts than Rudolph. The league had both to choose from this offseason. Darnold got a $10 million contract. Rudolph got a deal worth up to $3.62 million with incentives. That should tell you something, but you are still stuck on this silly idea that Rudolph is some kid with great potential.

Also, no, Rudolph was not terrible against the Steelers in 2019. He wasn't great, but he did what the Jets needed to win, throwing one touchdown and not turning the ball over.

 

Are you forgetting that he got let go by 3 franchises and had a qb rating of less than 80 over those 6 years. Even now he has a lower qb rating than Rudolph over 70 games or so. He got more chances because he was a high first round pick. He sucked worse than Mason did in playoffs in friendlier conditions and with more talent. Mason at least had Picken fumble deep in Steeler territory and almost brought Steelers back within one score till defense couldn’t stop Bills. You were wrong about Pickett in 2023. You incorrectly predicted that Mason wouldn’t do better than Trubisky or Pickett that year and I predict you will be wrong about Darnold over time.

 

And Darnold would have pulled it off too if it wasn't for those pesky kids and their dog!
