Never heard that before, not something I would have ever thought of.

Most coaching searches are initiated between 3rd party firms and agents, which is how they get around the tampering side of things. The 3rd party firm or Tomlin's agent is who's likely leaking info to the media.

There was never a realistic pathway for Tomlin to be traded, even if he did not have a no-trade clause. The organization that has had 3 coaches in something like 55 years isn’t going to treat a long-tenured head coach like a whiny WR. It’s just not their style. Heck, I can’t recall them trading away players that were working out and contributing, just players who were either problems (see our several WR trades) or were going to lose their jobs anyway (Dotson, for example). That’s just not the Steeler way.

It would only happen if all parties wanted it, and why would MT want it? Why leave a job with minimal accountability for a job where he could be fired in a few years? He has it good. He staying. Can’t wait to see who leads us by 21 points in the wild card round next year!

If I could trade Tomlin for a seventh round compensatory pick, I would do it and feel confident that I received the better end of the bargain.

The only way I could see it happening is if Tomlin saw a young rookie quarterback that he could hitch his wagon to whom he believes will be elite and can carry him through the next decade of his coaching career looking like a genius. He deficiencies as a coach have been getting exposed here ever since Ben passed his prime, so if he saw a kid like Caleb Williams developing into a star he might consider it to avoid the flak he'll be taking here when this thing goes belly up. It's my only hope that he'll want to leave, but it is highly unlikely for the reasons you have stated.
