Tomlin could have been his own coaching tree, like a hernia growing out his midsection.

Would have been sweet. Take their no. 10 in the first round plus a good need player and let the new regime start out strong.

You think it's bad now, I expect next season, unless we somehow good, you'll see banners around stadium with "fire Tomlin" all over them. I also think it will become a chant if things go south fast.

I'd just trade him. Offer Arthur Smith the head coach job.

Get some draft capital for young players and start fresh.

Time for a new brand of Steelers

Decades ago I was in the Army, waking up most mornings with a hangover and experiencing the thing you mentioned, same day for the umpteenth time. My new Lt saw me stumbling around post one Saturday night, he said meet me here at 9 tomorrow morning and Ill get you breakfast. He did not say BF would be at a Church, lol. Made it through that service and continued to stumble my way through the Army until honorable discharge. I got off the booze eventually and life was better, the moral of the story?

**** if I know, but an old army drinking story is about as enjoyable as reading this bash MT crap, lol.

Maybe he will have a change of heart and accept a trade. He has very good regular season results and players respect him BUT his best before date has long passed. Time to move in a new direction.

That was my type of reasoning when I woke up with the hangovers, got more clarity when I stopped. Perhaps getting away from multitude of MT posts and concentrating in your crossword puzzles will help.

I don't think there's a need to overreact. I think we all can agree that Tomlin is more than likely returning anyways. I just find it intriguing that this news popped out now, nonetheless. Within an hour of the Bears report, an unknown team popped up. So three possible outcomes here; 1: it's indeed over, 2: Rooney's are putting the news out there to get teams into a bidding war and Tomlin accepts a huge contract, 3: Rooney's are putting the news out there and Tomlin declines.

I think it's one of the latter two options, and that doesn't mean that the Rooney's want Tomlin to go. But why not fish?

Except they can't just trade him because he has a no-trade clause.

Well just shows how stupid posts can still be helpful. I sat trying to think of jigsaw puzzle, the sober clarity I brag of was not so evident, so I said crossword puzzle instead, and just about the time I though my memory was a goner you said jigsaw...thank you, the jig is not yet up!

Tomlin strikes me as a guy that wouldn’t want to be somewhere he isn’t wanted.

If Rooney called him into his office and explained that they would really like to go in a different direction but don’t want to just fire him, I think Tomlin would be open to it.

Chicago is a pretty good destination, a storied franchise, a QB to work with, fantastic fan base but who knows if he wants to live there. Would be interesting to know what other teams are asking.

The sooner Tomlin goes the sooner the Steelers can truly start rebuilding. Its not going to happen while hes still around. Steelers will just tread water at 500 or 550 and be a lower playoff team (maybe) just a waste of everyones time (franchise, players, and fans).

i really think it would be beneficial to facilitate a trade agreeable to all parties and let Tomlin go somewhere else. Hes overstayed his time here by 7 years.

It would be nice to think could actually happen, but when you lock yourself into a long term deal with big bucks attached, its hard to really make any far reaching alterations. If Art makes a subtle remark, "Hey Mike, I think you can make more money someplace else, I mean we want you of course, but a certain place says they really want to make you happy! So huh, how about waiving that no trade clause, you can swing for a boat load of cash and and we will even give you our first round pick! Of course we get their 1st, 2nd, and next years 1st, as well as last years 1st, as a favor to you of course, you know the issues we have had with their bust QB picks. We will struggle without you Mike, but we will keep your spot warm for future Hall of Honor placement."

Who really knows what Art thinks, but even w/o the no trade clause if MT was fired he could sit and collect a massive check, do random podcasts and media crap, or sign with any team HE wants that would make him an offer. It not my millions on the line, but I think the biggest issue with most fans is the patient owner thing. damn I would hate to be a fan of some of these teams with the owner who plays likes its Madden, but it becomes nearly as hard to accept year after year of mediocre inaction.

Yeah I doubt Rooney wants to move on from Tomlin, it was just a hypothetical to the no trade clause.

I defended Tomlin a long time, was a staunch proponent of his, my handle was even Tomlin_Era for a while. Then gradually just grew more and more disenchanted with him and now this winless playoff drought, its too much. If for no other reason, just change things up, get a new voice in there. 18 years is a long time.

If a negotiating team offered him more $$$ and gave him powers akin to here in Pittsburgh, I guarantee he'd waive it if the Steelers weren't willing to match.
