The Manning name is NFL royalty. That kid when he was born probably had the tip of a football stuck in his mouth instead of his momma’s teat. Obviously he still needs the talent but the NFL will not be too big for him, he’ll be fully prepared and from the small sample size looks like he can play.

    I’m going the easy route

I expect Kyle Allen back as our #3

Mason will be a FA but how many more opportunities does he need unless he’s willing to concede he is at best a #3

Allen has a year in Smith’s system and he is vet minimum

It makes sense, but they knew that they had to start scoring more points, and did with Russ.

That's how many points our defense gave up in the wins that we sqeaked out with Fields. The defense was dominant. Fields only averaged 165 yds passing, 37 yards rushing, and 1 combined td per game. Those numbers aren't going to win you very many games in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong, he's definitely one of your best options next year, and at least they know that much.

I anticipate Fields to get one last shot in Pittsburgh anyhow. Arthur Smith likes him a lot too. This also makes me wonder if Smith doing both of these HC interviews are more pre-emptive strikes against the Front Office as opposed to him wanting another oppurtunity.

I also know I said in another form I would imagine both Khan and Weidl would target IDL in Round One. However, given the immeasurable talent and near immeasurable depth this IDL class possesses, I dont anticipate that to be the case barring the likes of Mason Graham or even Kenneth Grant being on the board; something I dont believe is possible at this point.

However, given how talent deficient this WR Class is, there isnt any guranatee that the likes of Luther Burden III, Isaiah Bond or even Emeka Egbuka will be available. Tre Harris from Ole Miss?! Not sure about that but if Fields is going to be thw guy moving forward, max out his chances by any means possible.

And with that you just described Russ. Oh but he can throw the deep ball.

Well ****, I guess Fields isn’t coming back.

It was Dulacs brilliant reporting last year that said Fields and Wilson will never be Steelers.

No, I didn't. Wilson can make all the throws and he reads defenses better than Fields, though that is admittedly a low bar.

I’m talking about the people who gave me your attitude when I cited TJ’s bloodlines. I never defended Derek.

    No **** you need talent.

    agreed!

    Fields is not any good.

A Smith coaches like it's 1990 (I hope he is hired away but then Tomlin will hire another lame OC that he can CONTROL)

    Tomlin stinks - blame ROONEY

how can we be any better on offense in 2025? HINT - we can't......

All I'm saying is that you need a lot more than bloodlines.

How many college games has Arch Manning started? Two? His numbers this season are fantastic, but most of that damage was done in garbage time against Colorado State and UTSA. Perhaps we should wait to see what he does as a starter in the SEC before we crown the guy.

The knock on Wilson by every analyst who watched him is he doesn’t progress through reads well which makes him hold the ball. He either throws it deep or checks it down in the flats to a back. That’s not making all the throws by far. If he did the things you say he does then Sean Payton wouldn’t have gone to the owner and said this guy needs to go and can we pay him 38 mil to leave and eat a 68 mil dead cap hit to draft a rookie I can work with. Add on that Russ can’t move anymore and you will soon have the nfl sack leader of all time. He has 560 the leader has 571 which is Rodger’s and Brady in a lot more games than Russ. So yea our O line isn’t great but you want Russ back there again? He holds the ball and from 560 sacks it hasn’t just been in Pittsburgh. The style in the nfl now is a mobile qb. Look at the playoff teams left you have one pure drop back qb Golf and even he moves better than Russ at this point.

My point here is two fold. Play fields next year if he bombs so be it you will be closer to the top of the draft board and can get a qb for once since Ben. If he fools everyone and plays great you have a younger qb who is on a friendly contract that u can build around. Use this years draft which isn’t a great qb draft and you can’t get up there to get one of them to rebuild the D line and wide receivers and any other holes you can fill. Then if Fields sucks you have a better ten to bring a rookie qb into at least. No use in putting Russ back there paying him 2 or 3 years to do the same thing as we did this year with an aging defense or worse but being 500 which does nothing for us. Tomlin isn’t going anywhere and we all know it unfortunately so I will take a down year if it turns out that way if not we have struck gold and can really build other parts of the team by seeing exactly what Fields can do. At this point what is there to lose?

I think he’ll be a star. I like the whole Manning history, I think they’re good for the NFL.

Excited to see Archie carry the torch.

Shedeur Sanders, intriguing. Not a sure about that package but he’s right about moving up if you think you have the right guy. Just hope they scout better than the last guy they took if they trade up.

He can make all the throws. He doesn't make the throws over the middle often enough. On the other hand, Fields is erratic at best on deep balls and cannot make throws with touch.

You just made my point for me. Payton wanted a rookie he could mold and control. He didn't get along with Wilson. It's not like they wouldn't have to give Wilson that money anyway.

No, I don't want Wilson back. I don't want Fields, either. I never wanted either of them.

It is intriguing. I like both Ward and Sanders, can't imagine what the cost would be to get up there enough to take one. If either makes it past the Giants at 1.3, you've got a shot with the Jags at 1.5. Those Khans are pretty much the antithesis of Omar when it comes to shrewdness/smarts in the sports and entertainment business.7

    Edit:

Last year the Vikes traded with the Jags to move from 1.23 to 1.17:

    Vikes got:
    Jags 1.17

    Jags got:
    Vikes 1.23
    Vikes 2024 Fifth
    Vikes 2025 Third
    Vikes 2025 Fourth

For moving up six slots. o_O

I didn’t want either qb , apparently the rest of the league didn’t either. Bad thing is, Steelers still think Fields is fixable going into his 5 yr. So good chance he is coming back. Not so sure about Russ with the news coming out he doesn’t get along with AS.
Personally, if we had to keep one of them, I would take Russ.
We won’t avg 16pts a game with Fields.

Thats about what they averaged the last 6 games.

Wilson is done, he’s cooked. Fields most likely never becomes a franchise QB.

Difference is one is 36 and the other is 25.

Go with the younger player with a sliver of hope.

It's a win/win situation starting Fields next season. If he plays well all year then great you have a young QB for the future. If he stinks and the Steelers go 5-12 then outstanding that puts the Steelers near the top of the draft board with a better QB class in 2026.

I agree to a point. Neither nor is the answer. IDK what the Steelers are going to do about qb situation. Do we think the current staff can develop a qb? I don’t have the utmost confidence that they can.
Saying this, age is only thing positive about Fields. As I have stated before, he throws fastballs no touch whatsoever. It’s beyond me how he made it this far at qb position. Steelers put their selves in this position when they signed both these guys.
Hell, you could’ve kept the 3 stooges you had last year. Results in your record, 10-8 exactly the same.
