He didn't leave for the same job he left because it was a promotion going to the Vikings.

It’s been 18 years and I still can smell the green of grass.

Look, it’s going on two decades and to me it’s still futile to talk Tomlin’s departure. He’s here til he decides NOT to be. That’s just the way it is.
So, for me, that means I talk everything else but that to get this team back on track. JMHO.

(And yes, her thousand yard stare, I have it)

    Go Steelers!

The Pittsburgh Steelers hired the former Miami Dolphins coach on Saturday to serve as a senior defensive assistant. Yep he ran the defense just as much as Austin did. Lol. Think we see what he does when he is left alone with the Vikings with a bunch of no names and not the highest paid defense in the league. Not to mention he didn’t come up under Tomlin and was a head coach before Pittsburgh so don’t think that’s a coaching tree for Tomlin. Guess I am wrong again. 18 years and not one coach Tomlin has hired has become a head coach or for that matter a coach anyone would hire.

A one year coach/advisor is not a coaching tree coach. Guys that are with you for your years and you developed them is sort of the benchmark I would think. A one year lifeline doesn't really qualify.

I don't give a crap about a coaching tree anyway.

Well, they didn't hire Flores to run the defense it was more of Tomlin doing him a favor getting him back into the league.

Just a single data point about a head coach but not the end all be all that's for sure.

I agree with that. The problem is Tomlin will never hire anyone who he thinks is smarter than him or may pose a threat to his way of doing things. As a coach or leader in business or sports you should be training your replacement and if you are too afraid of doing that then you have a problem and the organization will suffer.

The greatest success a leader can have is seeing a protege or someone they mentored succeed. Who has Mike mentored below him, so in that regard he seemingly has failed.

One comes to mind who seemingly thinks Tomlins job is to just stand on the sideline looking cool in his shades.

Him and Joe. Joe should have done his farewell speech with his shades on.
