The glamor position in the league has become wr... it's a position that we've traditionally mastered for quite some time.. we always seem to find that diamond in the rough... unfortunately, lately, we also have mastered the art of bringing in the headcase.
Our current crew has exactly 1 star and a collection of players that are misplaced in our offensive system... there is potential here, but more is needed, be it via the draft, free agency or trade....

George Pickens ---- supremely talented.. makes the difficult look routine... can beat a defense short, deep or intermediate, and always seems to make defenders miss... he's everything you could want in a WR1...
Now comes the other half.... he's completely a diva that doesn't block, or gets his hands dirty in any way.... Moody and dogs it on the field when he isn't involved enough in the game plan... selfish and doesn't understand the little things that are needed that makes the flash possible.... it is completely unknown if anything or anybody can get through to him and help him grow up.... if it does happen, then we literally would have a top 5 receiver on the roster, but that's a huge if....
Unless things change, I don't see a 2nd contract in his future, despite claims by the front office to the contrary

Calvin Austin ---- had his best yr to date..... small and quick and fast, with the heart of a big man.... Austin has improved in every season but is not the wr that you can run the offense through.... ideally, he would be a WR3 in a dynamic offense, but he is a keeper... a big play waiting to happen either through the air or the return game... I absolutely see Austin getting a 2nd contract when the time comes and expect the upward trajectory to continue

Van Jefferson ---- a one dimensional speed receiver, who is best effective as a 3rd or 4th receiver that gets lost in the shuffle when a defense is focused on the top guys... unfortunately, for that to happen, you have to have multiple top guys.. Jefferson does have a great attitude and will get his hands dirty, but he's not particularly good at it..... could be kept as a #4 or 5, but could also easily be let go if another 1 or 2 is found

Michael Williams ---- late acquisition that was stuck in no man's land with the jets... his first catch for us was a game winner... unfortunately, after that, he spent the next few weeks in the same purgatory that he was in with jets..... it wasn't until Pickens went down to injury that we started to incorporate him in the regular offense.... he's no longer the pro bowler that he was with the Chargers, but is still an effective possession receiver that can get open.. unfortunately, we don't have the system, or the right QB to maximize the part of the field where he's best effective at...
I do believe we keep him, and hopefully, use him where he's at his best

Ben Skowronek ---- limited physically and does absolutely nothing special... what he does though, is get his hands dirty.. he's the best blocker in the wr rm and can move the chains in short yardage situations.... he has the type of attitude that is good for the locker rm, and his willingness to do anything is the type of thing that all teams need, but his limitations make him almost impossible to keep which is a shame... his attitude with Pickens ability would be the most complete receiver in the game...... if only

Roman Wilson ---- injury riddled red shirt rookie season... I have high hopes for this one... Wilson has the type of speed and wiggle that would make for an incredible slot man... I do believe we have a lump of coal on our hands that can and will be pressurized into a diamond

Overview: we have pieces in place if schemed correctly, but to take the next step into elite company, another dynamic player has to be added, probably through the draft... some other hard personnel decisions will also need to be made... This unit can work

    Next up: TE's

One thought on the OP. We used to have BigBen throwing to those diamonds in the rough. That's what having a HoF franchise QB does for aWR room.

As for GP, just throw him the damn ball. He is too talented at catching the ball to worry about the rest. He is the straw that stirs the drink so to speak, for now.

CA3 is the do it all, get your hands dirty WR on this team currently. If only he had the size of a Steve Smith.

Roman Wilson is the current plan for WR2. Has to be. Who else you putting in there?

I'm good with going into next season with these 3 guys as WR1, 2, & 3. Let's get another in the draft.

I'm trying to think of a receiver Tomlins drafted that wasn't a headcase or a bust.

    Maybe Emmanuel Sanders?

It's not the players, it's a culture issue.

This is not another bag on the coaches thread. Try to keep up with the topic. This is a fun discussion if you only try. Or stay out.

One player out of 53 is a head case and it’s a culture issue and not the player

The same culture that got 9 seasons and 7 Pro Bowls out of Antonio brown

    People post some funny ****

Funny thing about GP’s blocking is when he got here he was planting people on their butts, he did it in college, too and then poof, he didn’t want to do it anymore.

I think Williams will stick. This was his first year coming off a ACL, usually takes a full season to get back to where you were pre injury. He could be a big contributor next season. Still absolutely need to draft one or FA.

This team needs to add a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver. If they had a guy like that this season, the other pieces would have fallen in place nicely. Instead, they wasted a ridiculous number of snaps on Jefferson, who is useless most of the time.

If they want to add a head case and a bust, Dionte Johnson is available again. That fool was given a second chance by the Texans and completely shat on it

That was actually his fourth chance, but who is counting?

I didn’t even know the Texans picked him up until I saw him during the game and then they cut him afterwards :lolol:

Goofball was angry and crying about his playing time after a big playoff win. So awesome that the coach said nah F-U we’re not doing this.

Id hate to see the Steelers let GP go. Hes too talented. I wish we had a coach, QB and system so he could buy in. He’s worth it.

high hopes for Roman Wilson too, but we dont know for sure what we have in him until he gets in the game. Would be prudent to get a FA (Higgins) and maybe another in the draft.

So @Brice@Brice do you still think the Steelers should have DJ on their roster

You know my thought on this trade because I have posted my scenario before.... If the Steelers did not trade DJ away, he would have been Pittsburgh's #2 WR, and #26 Donte Jackson would have never come to Pittsburgh. The Steelers would have been taking a CB in the 1st round. CB Quinyon Mitchell would have been Pittsburgh's 1st round pick.

So, YES. I think the Steelers would have been better in 2024 with DJ on offense and Quinyon Mitchell on Defense. Looking back, I give Khan a big fat F for this trade.

He gets a bad grade for not securing a WR to replace DJ but not for kicking him to the curb. Guy is an a$$hole that just got kicked off his 4th team in a year. He is the literal definition of locker room cancer.

Exactly. He had to go. Brice is right about one thing. It led to Khan making a big mistake in passing on Mitchell in the first round of the draft. Jackson isn't good. Even worse, he shies away from contact. Cornerback is one of many positions they are going to have to address this season.
