Today on the Herd. Colin said the Steelers need to move on from Tomlin. Sooooo maybe the national media might turn up the heat. It might take 2 more years but maybe after he passes Noll in wins they will move on from Tomlin

This is so funny... 5 weeks ago Colin was saying that because of Tomlin and Russ the Steelers were the best team in the AFC!!!

I watched today as well and many many of the media always couch it with "I love Mike Tomlin, but". Why is this need to say we love him when we are talking about the results. Why??? The cliches the media love but there always seems to be an attempt to soften the criticism before they deliver it which I never see with any other coach. Explain that to me?

Cowherd hasn't been very high on Tomlin or the Steelers for years. He has said they are outdated and need to be more innovative.

I don't disagree with anything either. That game last weekend put the nail in the Mike Tomlin reputation, average coach and pom-pom motivator whose success came from Cowher's players.

Any coach could have won that 2010 Superbowl honestly Big Ben, the defense, that team was good.

Mike Tomlin has no coaching tree, hasn't developed a QB, is a defensive coach whose defenses underperform, and is massively outcoached in the playoffs.

It looks they are not going to move on so unless the organization and Tomlin changes their archaic philosophy and mindset, expect another mediocre season.

This. And I still stick to my theory that the media just won't go over that line. It's always "I love you Mike, but" or some kind of bro hug as you give him the bad news - but it's never about how he's the one constant in our continual playoff futility.

See how at the end he even said “we celebrate Tomlin.. but the fans” They just can't say say a critical thing without some caveat. Its just crazy. That’s the attempt to stem some of the blowback they face if it comes.

I'm just glad a lot of talk going on about it. Wonder if it could swell to something this year? My guess would be no, but who knows.

The fact that Tomlin is closing in on Noll's total wins is reason enough to fire him. He damn sure does not deserve to be the winningest coach in our history.

Cowherd has been on the Steelers for a while but I don’t think anyone takes him particularly seriously

I’ve listened to a few of the national media podcasts in recent days as I was travelling quite a bit and most of them are drawing similar conclusions. This Steelers roster isn’t very good when you look at it with a wide view and the result against the Ravens and even the last couple of games of the season shouldn’t be a great surprise to anybody.

The Terrible Podcast did a full show on this the day before yesterday as well and are kind of saying the same thing in a very diplomatic way. This team is miles off a superbowl roster.

The main reason for this in my view is horrendous drafting and team building between 2018 and 2022. The players acquired during that time should be the backbone of the team now. Yet Alex Highsmith is the only guy drafted by Pittsburgh during that time that is worth a second contract. That is an absolutely appalling indictment on the organisation.

I do think the 2023 and 2024 classes are better, but it’s going to take time to build this roster back up.

That’s not for a second excusing Tomlin and some of the inexplicable in-game decisions, poor coordinator and assistant coaching hires etc.

To be fair, "winningest" doesn't take into account post season, nor does it imply "greatest". Take away all of Noll's and MT's post season success/failures - does MT deserve to be the winningest if he surpasses Noll? Simple math says 'yes'.

Does he deserve to be called the 'greatest' - not even close.

I don’t think there is much appetite for defending him right now. Even elsewhere on social media I am seeing a lot of “I used to defend Tomlin but not anymore” posts being made.

I'll stick with Mike Tomlin. I'll even take all the crappy comments for doing so.

C'mon Jerry Jones. You don't want Deion you want Mike!!! It will only cost you 2 first rounders. What a bargain.

I look at our 1st round draft picks for the last 5 years, or you could even go back to TJ Watt(2017). Is there a team in this league that is getting less production out of their 1st round draft picks?

I would say the Steelers may have the worst 1st round picks in the NFL since the 2017 draft.
