The hallmark of bad teams and bad schemes and bad coaching is when the good players start playing bad, often because they are trying to do too much either because of their lack of trust in the scheme, system, coaching or the rplayers. Ultimately it still falls on Tomlin. I don’t want to trade them for their poor play. I want to trade them to have mercy on them to give them a chance to go to a contender and to blow this up and start over.

Brilliant statement. SO we draft a safety early in the draft to replace our all pro safety because are all pro safety is the problem. It couldn’t possibly be the scheme or coaching? But yet this rookie is going to come in under the same scheme and poor coaching and all of the sudden light the NFL world on fire. When your good players 9All of them) start playing bad you have to look beyond them and ask why? I don’t think we have to worry about trading these guys anyways , they will probably beat us to the punch and ask to be traded. I certainly would if I were them.

It’s a different NFL … Tomlin wants to be 3-deep at Safety for different packages, and all interchangeable.

It seems like players like playing for buddy buddy MT over winning.

Was it a bad scheme when Watt won DPOY?

You forget the guy was playing on an ankle that wasn’t 100%. How quickly we forget. Regarding when he won DPOY. Teams have made adjustments since then . Have we? You can’t just line up four guys and do a straight rush. You need to counter people when they make tweaks. We haven’t made any adjustments. Thats on us.

I get it. But safety is still not high on the priority list of positions of need right now.

Stop with the excuses his ankle is fine Watt doesn't like moving around on defense.

Drafting a safety early is imo not smart. We have bigger needs at more impactful positions.

Watt has been trash in the playoffs but Garret and parsons also not great. Can’t fully blame Watt for starts like these

Then you add in Baltimore 21-0 at the half.

Then scheme him up with stunts, disguised blitzes etc. We don’t do that very well. Yes his ankle wasn’t completely fine. But you know better. I guess he doesn’t need a healthy ankle to get push or for bend which is a really big part of his success around the edge. At any rate the whole defense shouldn’t be completely predicted on Watt any way. Because it is that in and of itself is a problem schematically and philosophically with the defense.

In contract terms if they were to consider trading TJ now would be the time. He has a year left and a trade would save over $20m and give his new team the flexibility to do their own deal with him.

Trading Minkah doesn’t make much sense until next offseason.

I’m not sure what you’d get for either at this point. TJ is still a very good player but who is going to give up major draft capital and then pay him on top of that? Perhaps Green Bay might be attractive for him, they are competitive and it would be a move back to his home state.

I don’t know that anybody would trade for Minkahs contract now. Maybe a new DC can get more from him next season

I do t think either move will happen and I expect they’ll be lining up for the Steelers next season

Unfortunately that was part of the game plan to crash down on Henry which doesn't say a whole lot for the confidence they had of the middle defenders and it hurt the team several times in the first half.

I wouldn't consider trading Watt unless he came out and asked for one but look around the NFL are there any teams that run a similar defense as Pittsburgh?

Minkah was played out of position by the DC this year with Elliot playing closer to the line of scrimmage attacking downhill. To me maybe Minkah's skills have diminished but the bigger failure is on the DC for not using him properly.

yes - I was MOCKED for suggesting Minkah was SLIPPING, earlier in the year.

    I know the game.

he is slipping, he SLIPPED and FELL. He should be cut, he costs WAY too much for his production, right now. He won't take a pay cut, he should be cut. MOVE ON, sorry.....it's a business.

TJ got injured - after his foot injury, he was useless.

But we can have all the talent in the WORLD - we have TOMLIN and we WON'T win.

Look at the scheme on TJ. Tackle curls around in and pushes him inside so Jackson can roll right. We got so outcoached and played

The steelers should have tanked after big ben went down that year and not wasted a trade for a high priced safety who is MIA in big games and cant tackle. Its a total rebuild. WRS who dont care and cant catch. A high priced D that does not want to tackle. A QB who is slower than D tackles. AHG. Implode and start over.

That was crazy, but I didn't realize he literally had 0 tackles, 0 sacks and 1 pressure for the entire game! Can't have your best defensive player basically not show up! At some point you move him around to counter what they were doing but nope we do nothing. That is coaching stupidity whether he doesn't like moving around or not. They needed him to be effective.

Exactly I don't care what Muth says, "we should be in the meetings". I wish I could I would ask how can the O coordinator not figure out a way to get the best WR on the team involved until the 2nd half. How come we don't move our best LB around when the other team is neutralizing him in his traditional spot. We just go down with the ship and end up with 0 tackles and 0 Sacks and 1 pressure. I want to be int he meeting and run the tape of OL pulling when they are not supposed to and run into each other, how does that happen in the playoffs, etc, etc. So Pat with all do respect I could give a f about what you think of the guy, I care about results and the teams results suck. You in particular come out after having a critical drop the week before and drop the first pass to you on the first play of the game and then proceed to not fight for a first down twice when we needed it. You are no Heath, Eric Green, Benny Cunningham, etc and you suck at blocking so improve your game!!

As I've suggested before, they should've traded TJ when he was still worth something. He's washed up now, barely gets to the QB anymore. They'd be lucky to a 2nd round pick for him now.
