Who Is Responsible Specifically For the Defensive Collapse?!?!

I agree that this unit checked out. I disagree though that the likes of Donte and Minkah are among the primary culprits. For that matter, issues with Teryl Austin have been brewing for quite a while now; dating back to 2020. What is needed is a new voice as a DC.


However, what is also needed is change of communication as well; having that DC call his own defense as opposed to Tomlin doing it.

 

Question, who has replaced Big Snack as that traditional line bruiser you have to get past to run up the middle? And how long has it been?

 

Several of those punch out fumbles saved our bacon in games. Several occurred in the red zone if I recall. it covered a scheme weakness. Minkah playing deep center field like he was Omar Moreno was a problem all year. The scheme sucks but we managed to ride that to an 8th ranked defense.

 

He ate up two blockers which created lanes for the ILB like Farrior to penetrate and make tackles. If we are going to run a 3-4 and ignore having a dominant NT we will continue to have problems against the better teams stopping the run.
