4th and inches

we punt cause micky thinks we can not get a couple of inches and turn the game around . Maybe our line places bad because the coach has no trust in them ,thus they play down to tomlins expectations. You can not become great by always settling for mediocre . That isn't my Steelers , they may be fine with some of you , not with an old guy who remembers even when we lost alot we never gave up and played hard. Making your best effort and losing hurts but losing cause you folded or were not coached -up and ready,n0 way. Enjoy my fellow fans but as long as tomlin is here I PROBABLY WILL NOT BE , PROBABLY READ A LOT MORE AND SUFFER LESS.

 

But he's gone for it at times and they've failed. It simply comes down to a mentality that this team is not tough enough. They talk a big game, but to a man, 95% of them are soft.

 

Get paid millions to think, pay people millions to play, can’t come up with a play or personnel to get a couple inches of turf , sad !!!!

 

Honestly wouldn't have made much difference, but this was another scared move by a coach who has no threat of being fired.

So many teams have their version of the tush push or an effective QB sneak. Do the coaches have that much doubts in the OL that they won’t risk going for it on 4th and the length of a football?

 

other teams have the tush push ,tomlin has given us the bend over and take it . That is not who we have to be . New h.c. with attitude and pride in being a Steeler. Not much to expect .

 

I really liked what the Ravens did on 3rd (and 4th?) and short. Putting the TE under center to run the sneak is a great idea. Why not put a RB or TE there and then copy Philly's push.

The Steelers should copy them and use Washington on 3rd and 4th to run the sneak.

 

To be fair we have failed at short yardage situations for the last few years.

And why do we often fail at 4th and inches ,ref? bad luck? not as many players as the other team has ? play calling? Must be all of that cause it could not have anything to do with coaching.

 

Our old line can’t get any push. No what’s the reason for that? Coaching? Maybe crappy players maybe

 

As soon as I saw Muth was short I yelled go for it but in the back of my mind I knew Tomlin would punt. Game was over on that cowardly move and Harbaugh knew it. Tomlin really does live in his fears. If they went for it and got blown up I still would have supported the call. It was inches to go. If your team cannot get that then you have not coached them well enough to expect to win the game. Soft as tissue paper under this coach and it shows year in and year out.

 

Our OL is garbage, Bungles stopped us twice last week..A QB sneak and a run couldn't get..

 

Tampa did it too, with a bit of a twist on it. They motioned the TE into position behind center just before the snap. I think the Chiefs also did something similar.

 

Remember what happened before this 3 and out drive. The Ravens went 95 yards in 7 minutes to score their first TD. The D was frustrated and gassed. This spineless decision completely lost the D and I’m sure caused divisions between the players and the coaches

I completely agree, although to be honest, I wouldn't trust the OL to get the push to get 1 mm in 2 or 3 tries.

 

I live in my fear of Tomlin being immortal and never again seeing a Steelers playoff win. By 2050, Tomlin will never had a losing season and be 8-30 in the playoffs. I am stoked!

At least the Steelers bring laughs as the NFL laughinstock. I know why OTHER players and coaches sing Tomlin's praises, its to keep the Steelers a joke, one less team to concern themselves with in January.

 

Ingenuity, misdirection, using your bigger athletes to almost guarantee a 1st down. Wonder what that's like?

 

This is pure speculation on my part, but the only thing that I can figure is that we have this ego problem of not wanting to emulate other teams. Pride? Maybe. But if something works for other teams (several now), and works very well, why not do it?
