Ugh, those picks are even more painful when you list them all like that.

Tuitt situation hurt, but Jason Worilds walking away really set them back. Had to burn three first round picks on OLB before finally hitting on Watt

And we all handle it differently. Seems to me he was trying to rekindle the fire and could never get there.

Making the guy out to be a “pos” seems over the top but to each their own.

I know the team didn't realize he was as good as he was. Almost like how long it took Harrison to finally emerge, he was behind porter. Nobody knew so I don't blame them but it turned out to be a huge miss by letting Hargrave go.

Sorry, it might sound callous, but it doesn’t take two years to figure out if you need to go back to work. Hardly anybody in this life has that kind of luxury afforded* to them and he took full advantage of the situation and it affected the team in major ways that I think is still ripping through the roster. Teammates, employer and very far behind - fans were negatively affected.

This was a cap strapped team who missed his great talent at a position that is critical, but also because of his efforts made them take the now seemingly foolish decision to re-sign him or Hargrave. Then they had to pay an additional not so small fee for a player that isn’t even close to what his game was. His money might have even contributed to retaining Hilton who we also still miss.

Both of my sisters lost teenage children in tragic ways. That’s one example of how I personally have seen and felt great loss from the death of a loved one. I bring that up only to display that I understand the subject intimately, and for no other reason at all. But eventually, they had to get back to work among many other ithings in their lives or it would negatively affect people around them personally and professionally.

Neither of us will know the truth, but I’m reading it partially and bluntly, Appears You In the “rekindle” way. Neither of us can prove it one way or the other. I’m just going on my God and I guess you are too.

They have to shore up the NT position, supposed many to be had in this upcoming draft.

I’ve lost loved ones but never had one killed and the person responsible walking around scot free without any consequences. I imagine thats difficult to come to grips with. You don’t get to decide how someone else deals with grief.

This is just football dude. In matters of life and death I couldnt give a **** about a game.

    1. It didn't. Tuitt's brother was killed on June 2, 2021. He retired from football on June 1, 2022.

    2. Tuitt made the vet minimum in base salary for 2021, $1.075M. He restructured and converted ~$7M of base salary to signing bonus in the offseason in order to help the team complete Watt's extension. The only money he made while on IR over his brother's death was $1.075M.

    3. Retiring on June 1, 2022 allowed the team to spread his dead cap hit over two seasons, rather than one.

    4. JMO, but I'm thinking if you'd ask Stephon whether he'd rather have his brother back or $1.075M, he'd take the former in a heartbeat. He made over $55M during his time in the NFL.

Thanks, I didn’t remember it taking two seasons to sort out but didn’t feel like looking it up.

Tuitt is water under the bridge at this point, it’s a real pity that his career was cut short in such tragic circumstances

I don’t think I’d want Hargrave back now, Heyward has at least another year or two in him and Benton is developing. Draft another DT instead

If they are paying a free agent that kind of money I’d prefer a CB

    Good post

I think the expectation that he was coming back was a bigger issue than whatever money he made

I’m sure they would have made moves to mitigate his absence if they knew he wasn’t coming back. By all accounts he had intended to be back with the team before he changed his mind for understandable reasons

if you are correct about the cap casualties, then that changes pretty much everything in my mind.

That's why June 1 is an important offseason date . Players designated as a post-June 1 cut/trade/retiree can have any residual dead money split between the current league year and the next.

I don’t know why I remember his dragging his feet affected 2 seasons in a big way.

I’m dusting off a gray cell here but I think the two year part may have been from foolish misinformed posts on this board

If I remember correctly with the June one retirement some posters suggested he screwed us with the draft and FA

This was not in my opinion correct because I highly suspect they had conversations often and long before June one

Yet some people wanted to make something out of nothing and it became reality

    That’s my guess

But if he retired AFTER the draft then he did negatively screw up the teams structure during 2 seasons.

I would almost guarantee it would’ve been me making an issue of it if not solely then the most. I feel like I am alone in this room.

You are alone in the room

As I clearly stated I highly suspect they had conversations often and long before June one

But that doesn’t fit your rant

They didn't announce until June 1st because of the cap implications. It's pure speculation on whether or how much the organization knew before that, but I think they were preparing for a possible departure. That draft they were focused on finding a QB and took Pickett in the first, then Pickens to be an extra weapon for him. After that they used their third on Leal.

That was also the offseason they signed Ogunjobi.

Yeah, Hargrave is probably past his prime and would cost too much.
