The problem is you're looking at it in a vacuum. Teams want to see progress. By and large, teams have a 5 year window with a QB on a rookie deal. Once they get the second contract, the ability to surround the QB with talent is very tough. So unless you have a truly great QB, you're limited.

Look at teams like the Rams - won a SB, gutted their team, reloaded. Same with the Eagles. Would you rather be the Steelers and have non losing seasons, but never have a real shot to win it all OR Cincy, who missed the playoffs but actually went to a SB recently? No, the Bengals didn't win it, but they are closer than the Steelers.

I actually have come around to moving on from Tomlin.

However, I also do not think the Steelers have the talent, specifically at QB, to compete with other good teams which falls on the GM.

The philosophy of the Coach and GM fall on the owner.

Bottom line, the issue is more than just Tomlin.

But having the most expensive defense has gotten them nowhere and in the playoffs they struggle.

Only 3 players, 2 of which are on the wrong side of 30, makes them expensive.

Well, I would trade two of them Minkah and Watt while they still have some trade value.

They start out a house of fire every year and then lose steam down the stretch.

Injuries, having a year of film on them and age probably all a factor in it but its the same every year.

A level of success, yes. But for Steelers fans, I think we can say it's mostly a failure. Expectations are always high for the black and yellow, after all, they've won 6 SBs, and gone deep quite a few times. Winning is expected.

I get what you're saying, but Cowher was winning with a SCRUB qb in Neil O'Donnell and Korky, who was an actual WR, not a qb...at least Cowher's teams had a pulse and could win playoff games, which is more than this ****-show team can do. The qb's have changed, the gm has changed, the assistant coaches have changed, etc...the problem is with Dumblin, I'm serious. When you hire an average coach, you get an average coach. The Steelers want Dumblin to be great, but he is not...it's time to move on. Why in the f*** would you keep Dumblin when you have young, talented, aggressive, hungry assistant coaches ready to prove themselves in the NFL?

Artie II wants the entire world to know his father hired the right man, but obviously he didn't...now we need to fix this and move on.

The Steelers need a full rebuild.

    Entire front office, gone.
    Entire coaching staff, gone.
    Every player over 26, gone.

Some luck and a couple of 3 win seasons….which the yinzer ****s won’t be able to handle…is the only way to get another elite QBto build around.

    Different era of football.

With that being said, Cowher didn’t win a championship until get got an elite QB.

I don't care what the final record is. Any season you lose 5 in a row and get embarrassed in your only playoff game is a failure.

It's sad that the original super bowl era dynasty who played to win Lombardi trophies is now celebrating mediocrity.

I just can't consider a season that ended with a 5 game skid getting completely whipped as a success. Approaching a decade without a postseason win is not success.

Two SB's in the last decade alone, more than a number of NFL teams. They need to figure a way to get back to their history and championship winning ways.

I imagine the Patriots fan board is pretty dismal over the last couple of years as well.

I wasn’t talking about just last night. I’m talking the last 5 weeks. The time of the season. They should be playing their best.

Agree but it’s the way it ended. The last 5 weeks were just terrible. We beat mostly mediocre teams. Yes we beat the Ravens the first time but if you go back and watch that game the Ravens should have won that game. They did everything to lose that game. Same thing with the Commanders. It’s that we were so used to the Steelers being a good to great team and organization but it’s gone so bad so fast. I mean we haven’t won a playoff game since 2016. Heck from what I remember we haven’t even been competitive in the playoffs games either. All we can do is hope they make a LOT of changes and start building a good long lasting team. The Rothisberger years are very much so missed now. I used to yell at him on the TV but would take him in a second now.
