It is getting harder every year not to see Tomlin's utter incapability to have his team prepared for the postseason.

the worst part is we were doing it with a very talented team from 2011-2018. We still had alot of talent and still continue to be just above mediocre. Tomlin has not been getting the most out of the talent hes had for the past 14 years.

I’ve always been an on the fence kind of guy with regards to Tomlin. Tonight was the final straw for me. So many idiotic coaching decisions. Ravens moving the ball at will in the first half and we have 4rth and 2 inches and we Punt !!!…and the Ravens still go down and get 7 following that punt !! You’re on the road playing a better team, if you can’t get 2 inches on a QB sneak then you never deserved to win in the first place.

Also, don’t get me started on the 3rd and 3 timeout just prior to halftime that Tomlin called. Was he not watching the same game that we all were !?!?! Our defense was literally getting shredded. I mean it appeared Baltimore was content to let the clock run out or at best settle for 3 until Tomlin decided to give them new life. It could’ve arguably been 14-0 at halftime vs 21-0. I’m officially done with Tomlin, or need I rephrase that to “1 and done”.

I think it's time for Coach Tomlin to get on with his life's work.

He'll be great on CBS's pregame show alongside Coach Cowher.

I mean... this has been reported before albeit not directly towards Tomlin...

Ray Fittipaldo of the PGH stated that there was a sense that the players had grown frustrated with the play calling.

Regardless, might be time for AR II to consider it. Besides, the team as a whole fired a Coach in season last year for the first time since WWII. Might have to make history yet again.

I think a better question with regard to the coaching staff would be " who should we keep? "

What positions have been excelling this year? Special teams has done very well. I really can't point to any other group on the team and say that they have done well. There have been flashes of excellence both from individuals and groups throughout the season. But nobody has really been consistent overall other than special teams and even they've had some flops.

The defense has been uninspiring throughout much of the season. They either overpower the other team and do well, or they get their asses handed to them. It's pass rush gets home, or they are ineffectual. The offense hasn't been dominant at really any point this season. There's been a few splash plays here and there, but even in the games when they have done well there was a lot of sketchy stuff.

The team often seems completely unprepared for their opponent and this is been a trend for years. Mike Tomlin will throw a red flag when he should hold it and he will hold it when he should throw it. His time management is abysmal. Today for instance, his use of a timeout just before the half allowed Baltimore to put another seven points on the board.

The offensive play calling has been horrible. We don't have a reliable third or fourth and short play. I would bet that we are somewhere around 20% success on that at best. We seem to either throw short of the sticks or a 45 yd pass attempt on third down. Both generally result in a punt.

We play an in the trenches slug it out type of game. We're putting up low points in most games. This means that no matter who we're playing, they are in the game until the end because we're only up by 10 points or less. We never dominate any opposing team.

We are almost always playing from behind on score. For whatever reason, the first quarter is a horrible quarter for us. It's like nobody studied tape or did any thinking about what our opponent would do. We seem to show up and try to figure things out as we go along. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Ya agreed. Tomlin of course gave all the credit to the Ravens and Lamar. It’s like ok well go coach him next season. I mean it’s not a surprise that he’s going to run the ball. I mean NO defensive adjustment were made the entire game. 299 rushing yards to our 29 yards. Pathetic.

I was under no illusions going into last night. The Ravens have been one of the best teams in the NFL since about week 10 and we don’t match up well if we are honest with ourselves. Lamar is on another level vs the player he was a few years ago, and they have fixed all the issues that they had on defence earlier in the season.

I would have accepted the result last night, but the performance of the team as a whole and attitude of the players is the big issue. Like always in the playoffs the Steelers look shell shocked in the first half abd wait until they are three or four scores down before they start playing, by which time the opponent is in game management and clock chewing mode.

In fairness to Tomlin I don’t think he has the players right now to make a deep playoff run, but he should be able to do better than this.

If they were going to pull off an upset last night they were going to have to be solid on defence, take some risks on offence and throw a few surprises at the Ravens. They did none of those things. The Ravens were ready for this game, the Steelers weren’t.

I do like Tomlin and I think he sets a solid floor under the team and we shouldn’t forget that this team was playing really well at times this year, the wins in Washington and Cincinnati were particularly enjoyable for me. But like others I don’t see Tomlin moving this team to the next level any time soon. Both he and the team may benefit from a parting of ways at this stage.

That would be risky for Rooney who seems to value stability, but honestly, how can he look at last night and be satisfied to face into 2025 knowing it’s going to be more of the same? Because we all know that’s exactly what’s going to happen unless there is change.

I don’t see any need to blow up the playing staff and trade everyone away like some are advocating. I don’t think Watt, Minkah and Pickens are worth as much as some people think anyway.

They have a decent cap situation and there are some good young players there and a draft and free agency to come. I like what they’ve done in the past two drafts, just keep doing that and get a new offensive minded coach in there with his own staff and give him three seasons to shape the team in his image. Ben Johnson would be ideal but perhaps he has another landing spot in mind already.

I will be captain obvious but Austin is gone. I dont know if there is anyone internally that will get that position.
Not exactly a Nostradamus prediction. Crap that may happen rather quickly...even for the Steeler Way.

I do feel something is happening behind the scenes. All the “do your job” comments players were saying a few weeks back.

Somehow the fire went out in the team, coinciding with vanilla schemes and play calling. I suspect there is something afoot.

    Great post!

I know most fan bases are going to want the next sexy pick being the OC or HC from the Lions but if you take a look at most anyone's coaching tree or an OC/DC who really made a name for himself...not many go on to have a great legacy.

When Spags defeated the Pats as a Giant DC he was a hot commodity but I dont think he lasted 3 years as a HC.

Everybody needs fired at this point. People don’t fear us anymore. The whole roster plays scared football. They all looked like Devin Bush last night. Before even in a loss you knew someone on our opponents offense was gonna get laid out and have to fight for their win.

even a guy like Ike Taylor who never even made a pro bowl knew when wearing a Steelers jersey it was tradition to light somebody up. That culture is long gone. Too soft now.

Oline coach, defensive coordinator head coach. I will give AS a pass because it takes a couple of years to get settled in as an OC. Too have that kind of talent on defense and squander it is an absolute shame. As for Tomlin he needs to get out of here and I usually go back and fourth on this but NO MORE. Run him out of town. Sure he is a players coach but to me that does not mean anything. You don't always get the best from your players being a buddy. We need someone tough that gets these guys to play HARD as F

Even if the Steelers do move on from Tomlin. We are probably looking at a multiple year rebuild due to how the roster is currently constructed.

The one who should be, wont be, as usual. Someone will be the scapegoat, the way it has been since 2011 and that usually ends up being the OC, DC or yes man, that was brought in to cover up the ineptitude.
