Porter said he wanted to be the highest paid OLB in the league and it was like two or three days later the Steelers cut him.

I don't think he is being black listed, he just over estimated his value. If Dumerville didn't have a fax melt down, JH very well may have ended up on the Rats.

Harrison's agent is desperate after he got dissed by the Ravens, the only way the Steelers should bring him back is for the veteran's minimum with a lot of incentives.

He's worth more than that. And he can get more than that. Just because he hasn't been signed doesn't mean nobody wants him. It means nobody wants him for what he's asking.

heck, I have a nice collection of Steelers and Pirates memorabilia up on Ebay at the moment. I'll put a link in the Classifieds forum, if I can.

And/or they are waiting until their rosters are a little more certain. Like HugeSnack said, it doesn't mean they don't want him. If not us, someone will be calling for his services, just not at his current asking price.

According to an Ed Bouchette headline the Steelers have "closed the door on Harrison." I can't read it however, because it's a PG+ article.

I am real interested to see how this plays out. If JH is re-signed how does that play with Worilds who looks to be the starter going into camp? Ultimately what does this say to Worilds other than we don't think right now you are good enough to fill JH's spot and maybe never good enough. Also what kind of fire and passion does JH have when he returns? Is he ticked that he didn't get a bigger payday and does his best to prove everyone wrong or is he just happy cashing a check for the next year or two? My guess would be the first but you never know. Finally it is well documented there were issues within the locker room last year. Does this cause friction in the locker room or does it elevate the play of both Worilds and JH? Going to be real interesting to follow needless to say.

If Ed's article says what it implies, it does answer our questions. The Steelers would have to believe they have someone on their roster who can start AND be successful. It also maybe shows that despite reports that we tried to negotiate him down, it is conceivable that we didn't really try that hard or really low-balled him.

The Steelers have already started planning on life without Harrison. I also believe that they are sitting back waiting to see what happens with the whole Sanders/Patriots situation. Not saying we would try to match an offer, but if we sign someone else we might not have any leeway to try to counter the Pats offer if they decide to issue one. Maybe the steelers are higher on Sanders then we expect. I dont know, just speculation.

    From Ed's article:

"Never say never, but the Steelers have informed James Harrison that they no longer are interested in him playing for them in 2013, according to a source.
Harrison has no offers and no known visits scheduled after he traveled to Baltimore...
Bill Parise, Harrison’s agent, said on Monday that he “has a couple things going on” with teams in the NFL. However, the Steelers are not one of them and let Harrison know over the weekend they have decided to go with others at his old position at right outside linebacker."

A 30% paycut was not a lowball offer by any means. If I'm not mistaken he was due to make around 6 mil and they were asking him to take just over 4 mil... Obviously in hindsight that was a very generous offer that I'm sure he wishes he'd taken.

Looks like someone overrated themselves a bit during FA. I wonder if it was all on JH or if it was more on his agent?

JH played this like an idiot and I knew he fd himself by walking away. He's 35, getting slower and not all teams play the same D as we do. His options were limited. I love him, but glad we're cutting ties and moving on.

It is time for Worlids to prove his worth. Sooner or later we knew we were going to move on with JH. It just seems to be a bit sooner than later. The hope is he continues to improve and Woodley shows up in shape ready to prove all us doubters wrong. I wish JH nothing but the best moving forward!

it wasen't harrisons fault he was scheduled to make all that money here this year. thats what they worked out when he signed his contract. they also knew how old he was going to be. he's not the villan here.

if your at work and you were or are one of the best at your craft and your boss says your getting kind of old and slowed down last year because of your on the job injury. he adds, i'd like for you to take a 30% pay cut or i will have to let you go. you know that there are 31 other jobs that do the same thing you are doing right on the same street. and you have a signed contract from your employer, for X amount of dollars, would you

    A. say ok cut my pay because you think he's right and you owe that to him.
    B. say i like you alot but i may have to decline your offer and put my application in at one of the other 31 businesses out there.
    C. sit on the piles of money you already have and wait.
    D. move in with charlie, casey, hines, aaron, max, chris, lefty, farrior, jarome and the other guys at the rooney's steelers home for aged players.:smiley1::cool:

believe it or not I feel for James! I have heard so many players say they thought they were worth more and found out the hard way as James has done. I also know that the Steelers want to move on, if the offered him a contract at a reduced amount they should at least honor that or even a slimmed down version. It is a business and James I think was caught up in the agents BS. If he can help give him a heads up shot at either his former position or another LB pos.

Nobody's saying anyone's a villain. But they are saying that either Harrison is dumb or his agent is dumb or both. The Steelers played this correctly. There is no market for Harrison. He seems to have chosen scenario "B," not realizing that the other 31 businesses have no interest in him. He overestimated himself.

The Steelers are under no obligation to honor the offer they made to James, which he rejected, before they cut ties with him. That's the reality of business and above everything else, we realize what a true business the NFL is when situations like this occur. I'm sorry to say it, but JH is out in the cold on this one and the Steelers are moving on. It's time to give some of the young players an opportunity and Worilds is the next man up.

How do you know he was caught up in his agents BS? What if his agent tried to talk him out of testing the market and he insisted? We have no idea whether James overvalued himself or whether the agent didn't know the market and gave James bad advice.

The fact is, James chose money over the team, which I understand as it is a business, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. $4 million wasn't good enough for him, he wanted more. Now it appears he's going to get even less. I think it looks good on him. This is what happens when people get greedy. I hope he makes $1 million this year and publicly admits he made a huge mistake by not resigning with the Steelers. My allegiance is with the Steelers franchise, not former players who left to chase more money.

He didn't want more, he wanted what was left on his contract. Lets not spin this like JH was holding out and demanding more money. The Steelers needed him to take a pay cut and he didn't want to. I don't think there are any bad guys in this.

The steelers offered him that contract before signing anyone else like Gradkowski, Spaeth, etc. I am a huge fan of JH and always will be, but he and his agent rejected the offer and accepted the release. Steelers moved on and now suddenly because no one wants him they are supposed to honor their contract offer? I believe both sides are at fault, obviosuly it wasn't james fault he was due 6 million this season, but he knew a pay cut was coming or a release, its part of the business. And his agent i'm sure informed James that we offered him 4 million for this season and they both turned that down. If I was JH i'd get a new agent, someone who doesnt talk out of his you know what and gives you the straight up truth. Seems like JH was fed a line of BS and now he's looking down a long road that could lead to early retirement....

There aren't any bad guys in this, but there is one side that wanted more than $4 million and he chose to leave the only team he's ever truly played for. He didn't have to turn down $4 million to go searching for more. I have no sympathy for the guy and I hope he regrets leaving. I understand it's a business, but I still don't like this stuff. It's greed, nothing more. I have no time for greed. There's a lot of players out there that would and do take home town discounts. As far as I'm concerned, $4 million would be overpaying James, considering his age and injuries. He should have been thankful with that much.
