The mistake is that he ran a route short of the line to gain. Another yard deeper and it's a 1st down. Lame route by Friermuth

Don't these fools ever run routes beyond the first down marker on 3rd down.It's like Canada still here calling plays

 

You’re in the frickn playoffs, both your QBs and receiver needs to be aware of the first down marker particularly when you just need one and you caught the ball uncontested. Ugh!

I call it the Eric Green effect. So many times back then close but we would just be short. It haunts us I swear. once that guy is below you on ground reach out with the ball and get that first, that was an early critical point.
