yea i like this kid. not sure about his deep ball as much as he's accurate short and with quicker routes. i thought he would fit quite well in todd haleys system. he's been hoovering around the 7th round on most boards, but he could move up some. he made tulane better.

i like these type of guys if we're looking for someone to groom as a longtime backup. they were winners in college, but are more of the 2nd tier guys. like cousins last year. like i think landry jones is. like ej manuel should be. seth doedge. colin klien. they all won a ton of games, but may only be backups. with the right coaching though maybe you hit a homerun and they turn into starters someday, but they will be good partime starters and backups capable of winning some games for short stints.

Can he make all the throws? I believe the Steelers will draft/UDA another QB
and he must be able to make all the THROWS.

I like the Griffin kid too but I do worry that teams could play tight due to poor arm strength. He could make a decent B/U though. I think Manuel, Jones and Cousins could be starters down the road. As for Klein, we disagree on him. His arm strength is lacking alot and he hasn't got very good anticipation. He will consistently underthrow receivers, IMO. I don't think he ever makes it as a QB in the NFL.

i meant he was a winner in college and possibly could eventually be a good backup. klien has that run ability that could help him as a backup. in the right offense he could manage a game and his feet can help move the chains. i've always liked a 3rd qb that has the ability to run. it just keeps the defense honest if it came to us playing a 3rd stringer. no, he's not my first choice either, but i think the ability is there with time. the kid won alot of games. he threw for alot of yardage too. teams having to protect him from running helps his passing. ala, leftwich but more graceful LOL.

And I hate the thought of that....there is no need to draft one if we have Ben. Find a gem in the late rounds that can be someone Ben can throw too instead.

I mean why not just keep the rookie from last year on the roster and groom him, or Dennis Dixon??? Why not groom them instead. Whoever we draft will just get cut like the rest of them and then picked up on someone else's roster.

Sign a veteran QB (although I didn't like the Gradkowski signing, I felt we could have done better.)

I think my thing is don't draft a guy unless you think he will be the #2 QB from day 1, otherwise he could just get cut.

I think this would be a great year to draft a QB in the mid to late rounds. While there's not a lot of sure-fire talent at the top of the draft, there seems to be an abundance of talent to be had in the middle to later rounds that could develop into something special. It's worth taking a flier on somebody to come in as the number 3 and let them develop over time behind Ben.

I agree with Stellars, this board is divided on how much time Ben has left, I think it's too early and I also think there are too many more pressing needs to be spending a draft pick on a QB. Even if we find a gem, he's not going to unseat Ben unless his career is cut short by an injury. No way with Bens salary will someone come in and start over him in 2 years barring injury.

We're getting closer to next Wednesday, TE. LOL!

I really hope that Ben has many good years left and I believe that if he buys into Haley's system that he very well could. However, with his reckless style of play his career could come to a premature end. You and others have said that Ben's replacement will be a first round draft pick, not a flier we take in the middle rounds and that may be true, but I think there is enough talent this year to take a shot at one of these QBs that has the size, arm strength and intangibles to be successful at the next level. What would you think about somebody like Tyler Bray in the fourth round? According to some analysts, had Bray stayed in school he very well may have been the number one player taken next year and at the very least would have been a first round pick. He's a big, strong QB who is extremely accurate and could sit behind Ben for a few years developing from a lump of coal into a diamond. The Pats have Tom Brady's successor already on the roster in Ryan Mallet. The Steelers could do that with somebody like Bray.

Man I hope Gradkoski is up to the task!

I won't be terribly upset if we take Bray because of the possible upside but with so many holes to fill in the draft, I just think a pick elsewhere could better suit us. As for Brady, he's already 35, Mallet probably doesn't have much longer to wait but you never know, Brady doesn't get hit a lot so he could probably play till he's 40 if he wants.

he did just sign a new team friendly deal and said he wants to play until 40.

i wouldn't mind if we get one. at least if he improves it will give us a better chance to win if ben goes down for any period of time during the year.

i think it really hit home just how old and fragile charlie and lefty are now. it's time for some depth.

grad's a stop gap. the kid would at least be the longer term backup. hopefully like cousins was for the skins. the kid came in and won a couple crucial games for them. we could have used that last year and we would have made the PO's.

you really need two good one's. this league is a passing league and much different these days then when even charlie and lefty were decent. we need another gun to throw the ball. i'm not saying bray or griffen or jones is that guy but they have had alot of success in college. they have decent mechanics. why not , if it makes the team stronger so be it.

it's no different then a backup LB or TE. we have to have them. if they see some upside in them let's see how much they can pull out of them.

He's a prospect, but if he wants a career in the NFL he needs to fill out, 206 for a 6-5 guy is too light for the hits he's going to take in this league....
