He’s been mia for two reasons. One of which is the toxic environment several of the posters here strive to maintain

Disagree. He maybe has the most physical talent and potential, but was not the best QB.

I recall when Wilson came back from injury, his moonball sparked life into the deep passing offense and defenses quit stacking ten in the box against the run. The scouting report on Fields was he wasn't asked to make many progressions and was late on deep balls. Those are still weak areas.

I was skeptical about going to Wilson from Fields, but you could see who ran the offense better. To be fair, not sure how much Tomlin was reigning in Fields, but the fact he couldn't take the job from a washed out Wilson says everything.

This is debating semantics really, Pickett, Rudolph, Wilson, and Fields, are all discount bin QB's. You aren't winning a Superbowl with any of them or Tomlin as the head coach.

His absence coincides with Wilsons fall from grace, hmmm :hmm:

J/k probably just life stuff. He was here game day.

I have to say, I was one of those that actually gave a nod of approval after seeing the results of putting Russ in. However, Russ has backslid into Denver Russ, and now here we are.

There are media grumblings that we should start Fields against the Ravens. I feel that would be a mega-mistake. Putting someone in under center that hasn't started in 12 weeks? Hmm. Against the Ravens? In a playoff game? Egad.

MT has said he's not averse to using Fields Saturday night. Not saying we shouldn't feature Fields in some sort of creative package, but I don't have faith that we'll do anything other than put him in a couple of times to run a play that fools no one and relies solely on Fields using his athletic ability to evade the defense.

We'll see what we expect to see from MT on Saturday night, because that's what we've come to expect.

They should've used Fields against the Bengals when the offense was struggling, maybe he could've given them a spark.

That barren market tells you there is no way he is signing for $3 million.

Fields in a recent interview expressed his desire to stay here and pointed out he is tired of leaning a new playbook. Makes you wonder what him, Tomlin and Smith have discussed behind closed doors and if they plan on building an offense around him.

Of course then there are the rumors about Smith getting a HC job which would mean a new playbook to learn anyway. Who knows, whole thing is in flux.

I would certainly rather go JF for the next year or 2. While I doubt it works at least there is a possibility. Russ is washed and will be 37 no thanks. If JF doesn’t work next year you probably don’t have a great record and can draft a QB in 26.

“See everyone for our playoff win.”

That’s at best is not until tomorrow night

A lot of people on this board jumped on the Rudolph train and they were wrong

Those same people are still making foolish postsnow but they are just inserting different names

I kind of like this way of thinking. I don't want Fields in now, but oddly I'd rather keep him than Russ. I also don't at all like the free agent QB's likely to be available at any price.

Besides, Russ is just going to retire immediately after winning Superbowl MVP this year.

Just because a player says he wants to stay doesn't mean they have said anything about plans for next year. Even if they have talked about it, that doesn't guarantee anything.

My guess is that Tomlin has been keeping the door open for Fields to return in 2025, but he is aiming for a better option.

Smith having 2 interviews so far, the tweet about the Bears trading for a coach, then at least one on sports radio saying don't be surprised if we get whomped that the coach is MT. Which until it happens is just media trying to fill time and space, but if MT and Smith are still there I would think one of the QB's returns. They may indeed go in a totally opposite direction, as yet another article stated today, but the choice of QB's is pretty sparce and they have won with both of these guys. The total result was not pretty, but they still won.

I did not have any real opinion, I could have seen them trying to keep MR and bringing in Fields or as it happened Russ, I also understand him wanting and needing to clean out his locker for new ground. I honestly do not think there are any real solutions in house, FA or the draft at this point. If they actually build an O with some playmakers and fix the line, the guys they have or someone they brin in can likely continue the mediocre winning streak, they may luck into someone, or we just bail water until we lose enough to get a place in the draft and find one there.. I doubt I live that long.

I advocated for them to keep Rudolph and Pickett and let them compete for the job instead of signing Wilson and trading for Fields, but I doubt any of those options were going to make this team a Super Bowl contender. Given that he suffered even more injuries in his brief playing time this season, I've come around to the idea that Pickett just can't stay healthy even if he could get his act together and rediscover the aggressiveness that Tomlin forced out of him.
